  Thank you for reintroducing me to another semi classical album. I probably heard it in the distant past and do not recollect it now. I hope Lakshmi has starred in the movie. Another very interesting song is "Nakhshathra Deepangal Thilangi". Can you please tell me on which raga it is based?

  I am delighted about the way you have differentiated between the chittai and kalpana swaras. Since all the cine songs require the composer to do all the job, may we presume that they are indeed chittai?

  2."yengengu nee sendra podhum" - from NINAIKKA THERINDHA MANAMAEY.
  
  
  3."pooviley medai naan podavaa" - from PAGAL NILAVU.
  
  
  4."kadavul ullamaey or karunai illamaey " - from ANBULLA RAJINIKANTH.
  
  
  5."yennai thaalaatta varuvaala" - from KAADHALUKKU MARIYAADHAI -is it based on
  KEERAVANI ?
  
  
  6."oru raagam tharaadha veenai" - i don't know the source of this movie - sung by KJY and S.Janaki , MD - IR.

  3."pooviley medai naan podavaa" - from PAGAL NILAVU - I would say SANKARABARNAM, with a few accidentals....
  
  4."kadavul ullamaey or karunai illamaey " - from ANBULLA RAJINIKANTH - Not heard this....
  
  5."yennai thaalaatta varuvaala" - from KAADHALUKKU MARIYAADHAI - Keeravani, but seems to have some Sindhubairavhi touches in it.....Hari pls confirm....Thanks.
  
  6."oru raagam tharaadha veenai" - SRI RANJANI RAGAM - GOPURA VAASAL
  
  7."kathhunguyilae" - from KIZHAKKUM MAERKKUM - Don't know this one....
  
  Murali Shankar: Sorry, I have no idea about the Pram...song, I made a guess of the other Ragam, because of the swarams you quoted.....Saketh is probably right, as JOG sounds a lot like a mixture of Kambeera Natai and Thilang....

  I am afraid I do not know the film it belongs to.
  Has anybody heard " Kalyanappallakkil Vaelippayyan" from " Kaliyoonjal" by Bhavatharini. MD is IR and the raga seems to be Keeravani. Can anybody confirm this?
  
  I would also like to know the raga of "OOrellam Un Paatuthan" by KJ? Is it Karaharapriya? Hope this is the same raga of "Kadavul Ullamaey" from Anbulla Rajnikanth.

  CM: You're right, 'Oru Ragam' is not from Gopura Vasal, "Nadham Elundhathadi" is.....But this song, ORU RAGAM, by KJJ that Madhan refers to is also in SRI RANJANI.....
  
  Dhanadapani: Siva Ranjani, is as Ramaswamy says....It's from the Mela Karaharapriya, but is Sri Ranjani without Ma and Ni......Sri ranjani is Karaharapriya, with no Pa......If you listen to the song: ENAKAA THERIYAATHU SRI RANJANI from Jaadhi Malli, you'll see the exact differences, described very well......

  I just heard a song from the film 'antha arabik kadal'. MD is sirpy. The song is sung by Mano and I think, Uma Ramanan. The song is set to Amritavarshini. Technically it is correct, with most of the note patterns being very simple progressions, but on the whole the song reminds me only of thUngAdha vizhigaL. I wonder why sirpy didnt try to use the raga in a different manner.

  Keerthana...."Anjali" is based on "Maand". In fact you will find a striking similarity between Chitra's humming in "Anjali" and Balamuralikrishna's beginning alaap in "oru naal poduma" whose pallavi and first charanam are based on the same raagam. "Ulavum thendral kaatrinile" from "Manthirikumari", "Aayiram kan pothathu vannakkiliye " from "paavai vilakku" are based on Maand too.

  Thanks Sriram. I did notice the similarity between the notes in the song with Shankarabharanam (it being the Kartha Raagam), when I first heard it, but did not realize it was Maand. Here's another question... The song "Ennavale" is based on Kedharam, isn't it? Some years back, there was another song, with similar notes to it..."Sunnari neeyum sunnaran nyanum" - is that Kedharam or Kurinji?

  Ramkumar...All the songs you listed sound similar...Thendral vanthu...has both Ma's in it otherwise has Harikambhoji's notes...I do not know what it is. "Roja Ondru" ...atleast in the Pallavi I guess is set to Bilaval but other notes creep in the charanam especially in the line 'Mullaippoovin..'.
  
  Keerthana..Sundari Neeyum is set to kedaram and Ennavale is based on Kedaram too with a few discrepancies.
