--- Nattamai you seem to be in the know, if KR is using the same people as IR, why is it that, IR gets better quality than KR ?
I don't think IR is getting better quality than KR. Ofcourse IR's earlier albums using natural instruments like Veera, Devar Magan were well recorded and mixed. But I think you need a different approach/technic to record synth based instruments to sound better. There the guys working for IR/KR fail miserably for some years now. And IR & KR still don't realise it and use the same guys for no reason (except one who moved to Bombay). DumDumDum was well recorded, but KM disappoints. There is this hiss sound in almost every song which is very annoying. May be they are in a mind set that recording is the least thing you should worry about even after it costs them so much from 92. :)
--- The main problem with KR's recording is that the synth drum does not sound good at all. I think he is adding too much 'reverb' to it. If you see Yuvan, he always makes the drums sound so close to you. With KR and in some cases IR's recording, adding 'reverb' to the synth drums to make it sound like natural instruments, seems to make the sound 'fuzzy'.
IMHO, IR and KRs compositions sound better with natural instruments. Though both of them experiment with different synth drum sounds, somehow the ultimate output does not sound great sonically, even though I appreciate the new effects.
It does not matter what you do (using natural or synth), you should know how to do it effectively. KR likes to make songs melodious even for rhythm-based songs. That is why he opts for hollow like synth drums that do not have any depth. Also my thinking is that they tend to take the frequency level of a particular instrument to the extremes. Say one instrument sounds very good at some frequencies, they try to go beyond those levels to make it like it has depth.
--- BTW, Shyam, oru kOttaikkul song is the song which I do not like at all in the album. I guess taste varies. The backing for the song totally follows the tune this annoys the heck out of me.
oru Kottaikkul is a nice song. Yeah, taste varies. :)

K,
Listen to the song as a whole, check out what he is done using the orchestra, no one other than IR can do something like this. Oru Kottai is something never done in TFM.
What is more interesting is as Listener pointed out the interludes of all the songs are just amazing.
Everyone including me have mentioned about the recording quality...eventually the music overcomes that.
Just as an example ,when you listen to the Theme you will notice how he has handled the chorus , in the final bits leaves them them to flow (a high piteched end) rather than end abruptly. Simply superb, not seen in any other composer.
Was watching the Raj TV's Kollywood Live, and the scene where the Thalattu music comes , Parthiban is narrating the sketches of him with Madhumita. The music blends perfectly with the situation starting from soft thaalattu to pathos aalap.
Like the mouthshut review , I wish , he also gets the BGM. I am yet to see the movie for the bgm.
DO any of you know if the CD has been released, and where we can get it.
Thanks in advance.

Nattamai, I think we have similar opinions more or less when it comes to recording and IR/KR. I think it is a pity with all his talent KR should be handicapped by this. If Sree is around, he will probably broach the subject with KR.
Shyam, I am glad to see people enjoying KR's songs. It is a format that does not have many followers. He does the tune/melody and starts orchestrating the song. But he surely has to work on the sound engineering and certain techniques he is using repeatedly (listen to Belli Chandiranu song in HOUA movie, URL given above).

1,
Thanks for the info. Anywhere online we can get it. True this album grows on you. It is the Theme that has been haunting...sheer
Not sure if we have observed the usage of bass guitar in Adiye Kiliye and Onnu rendu...neat stuff. There are these details that you tend to notice after multiple hearings :)

oops wanted to complete..
It is the Theme that has been haunting...sheer capacity of orchestra and chorus to take the listener through a roller coaster of emtions. This is the best KR has done till date.

Adiye Kiliye is an amazing track, I can't stop listening to it. Unlike many young musicians today, Karthik Raja's music will live and be appreciated even beyond his time. He has a genius touch not a surprise considering he is the son of a musical icon. I am searching everywhere for the songs in mp3 please post if you find the site.
Thank You

SG,
You are right , Karthik Raaja's composition have that touch in music that you know is something great. His melodies have that touch of a good composer, flowing melody....we are able to distinguish as a listener from other compositions.

Srikanth says .."Interestingly, for the first time ever, the songs are by Yuvan Shankar Raja while the background score has been rendered by his brother Karthik Raja. It was magnanimous on the part of Yuvan to allow his brother score the background music."
I think Geethai is the first film in which KR did BGM for YSR ,atleast officially

Watched the movie. The movie itself , like other pointed out that in the first viewing is a little confusing , but after that all the scenes linger in your mind as you start relating the significance of the scenes. A good movie by Parthiban.A great movie when compared to the lousy ones that come out now.Not sure what exactly was missing in the movie that did not appeal to the mass audience. Would compare it to "Butterfly effect" which had a nice concept , but did not match up to "Momento". Parthiban has shown his talent in this film. I only hope he had made it a commercial success , by just not labeling it a "commercial kavidhai".
KR has produced some great music for this movie. Noticed that the entire movie was filled with BGM. Probably music was not present for the max of 15 - 20 minutes on the whole. Many scenes would have been void without the music.
Ahi , like you mentioned the movie had many excellent themes. I watched the movie thrice just for the BGM.
Some of my favourites.
Bride says no to Venkat - Nice melonchaly melody , based on a raaga
Madhumita Meets venkat in the Auto Stand - A must see scene with 3 different themes.
Transition of Adhirchi - An eerie deep music electronic music
Meeting in the gift shop : Nice flute
"Dyanam panra maathiri Kanna mudunga" - Though a short piece the piece starts of with some nice native drums then to a flowing melody with some nice violins. Pefrct to the note like IR.
Rain under the umbrella - Exhilerating stuff.
Same technic of kissing - A nice groovy jazz music , this one really stands out. ( I think this is the one mentione by Ahi)
Mending the moon - another nice one.
KR has overdone the BGMs in my opinion, he has shown his talent in this movie. All the pieces can be enjoyed to the note. He has the talent like IR to transition in a very short time and yet have the music be perfect.
I wish he releases the BGMs in a CD.
