What is missing in AR RAHMAN's Latest Albums??

I am sure as you all know that lately, Rahman's songs have not become what they used to be; mega hits. People have different opinions as to why this is the case... please share your thoughts.

  arr has just done 60 to 70 films and the media has created a very big advertisement for him. his songs are very ordinary and can not be compared with the greats like rdb,illaiyarajs,laxmikant and even shankar ganesh who has produced several hit numbers. But for the media , arr cannot have reached this much height. As far as hariharan is concerned he is now developing into a good singer in tamil film songs, but the minus point is his voice which is just like all other singers unlike spb and tms.

  but a lay man doesnt like this. he feels nice even if the songs are similar to the previous ones.
  one who have some knowledge about music doesnt feel the same like a lay man.
  what one likes is not liked by the other (in terms of language and the region)

  ARR needs to look into a different style of music composition rather than trying to imitate his own.

  truth may be bitter ... he gets 1crore per movie here in TN ... for the same type of work in Hindi he gets 2crores and for hollywood ventures he gets 40 ;) obviously if you or me is an ARR, we would not prefer working for 6 months on a crappy movie and get jus 1 crore (e.g: star, u18e20, baba, AE) while there are umpteen number of others who can give the same output!
  
  TN is famous for it's possessive attitude ... leave the genius ... let him get honours from all parts of the world.

  no unique ness to say it is arrrahman and more over many new music directors have reduced their gap in style between rahuman , in 1990 and early 2000 we can say a particular music as rehman now we cant say just by hearing it , and poor lyrics in tamil with bad singer selection , he is not using innovative singers nowa days and bad luck , AE had all good songs but movie failed so did the songs

  Nothing is missing except the ppl. taste. The ppl. taste is now towards thappakuttu and fast songs composed by VS and others. Hopefully when ppl. get tired and wants to listen to good music they will start listening to ARR and also the projects which he selects are few and he does not seems to be concentrating except for Mani project in Tamil and that may be the other reason. The reason IR survived all these years (before ARR) was no one to challenge him and no way to go other than Tamil and sometimes to Telugu. He was outwardly rejected in Hindi.

  There is nothing wrong with Guest's posting. But I dont agree fully that IR survived bcoz there was no challenge. Ofcourse there was no challenge but IR is immensely talented thats what helped him survive. His problems were that his songs will never go out of South India (too much of South flavour which will not suit the non-southies) and his ego.

  I feel ARR made movie composing easy with Gadgets, etc. There are umpteen youngsters who could follow that track.(No need to know about music but still they can survive). As there is more music of same genere, ARR could not make a separate mark. Once YSR was asked this question whether somebody need to know music in movie composing? He replied not necessary.
  
  However, ARR is more matured in using Gadgets compare to the rest of crowd. YSR comes closer at times, but lacks consistency. ARR is the one who knows how to use synth. in non-iritating way with his good sense of sound.

  Also as ARR made movie music composing easy, more people could follow his track. This explains lots of competition in his times. As such a method was not available in IR times, only people with conventional composing style(which is considered bit difficult), could compete with him.

  Hi!
  I disagree with Anbesivam. ARR is not just a sound engineer as ppl make him out to be. Initial impression was like that. Later on he came into his own self. To start with, he used a western format to set his tunes, later on he experimented and perfected the art of blending good vocals and instrumental music to the tee. He composed good songs and mastered it in the best possible format. I just cannot believe that what he did with best of intentions to elevate the sound quality can be used against him. He just wants the best return for his compositions and that is only natural. In fact I have heard IR in many of his interviews lament the fact that he could not make use of the best technology for his various experiments due to lack of budget and time etc., Now what ARR is doing is being single minded about the recording and sound quality so that the songs come out well and whatever he does is not lost in noise of a poor recording system. So in my opinion, the very thread is lacking perspective.

  It seems many agree that recent ARR albums seem to lack something. I feel they should add a shampoo pack, stainless steel cup, perfume sachet, bath soap or something such along with the CDs and cassettes for future ARR albums. Hey if it works for a magazine why not?
