  Is New releasing this week? My local theater's website lists only Naani. Main Hoon Na will probably get the DTS screen while Naani is in mono so I don't know if I will pay the $8 to see it.

  Rehman's New hits top of charts

  CHENNAI: Like every other of his albums, music director A.R. Rahman's latest release New has quickly climbed to the top of the charts, possibly because the competition is currently not too tough.
  
  
  After listening to the first track, one gets the feeling that the music has a very young, zippy and Western feel to it - to put it simply, very similar to Boys . But that is not all there is to New .
  
  
  The album opens with the track New New , which seems to be strongly influenced by the hip-hop. The rap rendered by Blaaze, who has quickly become a fixture in Tamil music, sets the listener's feet tapping. Like several songs in Boys , this song is partly in English and partly in Tamil.
  
  
  The next track, Sakkara Sakkara , sung by S.P. Balasubramian and Sujatha, is very different from New New . This is a paradigm shift from the hip-hop genre to a more sedate traditional genre. Even the lyrics sound completely different.
  
  
  Another track that is worth mentioning is Spiderman , belted out by Kunal and Sadhana Sargam.
  
  
  Spiderman starts out with a guitarist strumming away - rather like an Elvis Presley number straight out of the 1950s - and sounds unlike any other song one has ever heard before.
  
  
  
  Again, the lyrics are not completely in Tamil, but in a mixture of Tamil and English. Those who may wish to know how a track named Spiderman crept its way into a Tamil film may wish to catch the movie to find out. Hopefully the film p
  
  rovides a clue.
  
  
  Rahman's Boys was a young album, and all the tracks seemed to reflect that. But in New , he has not composed songs that would just bring the crowd that loved the music of Boys on their feet, but has also attempted to compose the kind of tunes that people in Tamil Nadu have savoured for years.
  
  
  One somehow gets the feeling that this album may not completely satisfy either constituency.
  
  
  But the rest of the album consists of tracks that are pedestrian at best, at least by Rahman's standards. This album does not appear to possess the timelessness that has marked some of Rahman's earlier compositions like Roja and Alai Payuthey .
  
  
  On the whole, this album is worth buying only if you can't find any of Rahman's earlier classics on your music shelf.

  NANI IS A ENTERTAINER:I am a tamilian, And i was waiting for new. but posters of nani all over bangalore made me to see the movie in telgu, and i went to the movie with an african. so both of us knew nothing about the language. the movie was something NEW no doubt. the songs which i think is average except a few was awesomely picturised. all looked fantastic.And i thought ok atlast an hit was rahmans way.The BGM totally sucked man. I donnt know what went wrong with the puyal.
  but i guess he will sort out that in the tamil vresion. overall a very good movie. S.J.SURYA keta sarak irike.Thts why arr has accepted the film.

  I don't know what logic is behind the great declaration made by Aswathamma.If the movie bombs at the box-office,MD has no responsibility in it.If MD alone can make a movie a hit,then why take the trouble of scripting,shooting etc.Going by this logic blockbusters ran only b'cos of its songs, if so why ppl go to theatre to watch it?

  Nattamai,going by your postings i have seen over the last 6 months(the time i have been visiting the website),you seem to be a big IR fan-frankly so am I.According to me IR is a great MD&ARR is no match for him.But i am bewildered why you want all of ARR's albums&the movies for which he is MD to flop.I am disappointed that MR&IR have split but that doesn't mean that MR has suddenly become a bad director or his films should flop.I have seen&will continue to see MR's films irrespective of who is the MD.AE is being eagerly awaited&i hope it will live up to expectations&become a big hit.I have a request to all IR&ARR fans,plz don't indulge in mudslinging&hope that the other should fail.A healthy debate is always welcome but note it should be 'HEALTHY'.
