The aim of this thread is to collect, at one place, interesting
stories, anecdotes, tit-bits etc, related to TFM. A newcomer to
the forum will find this collection very interesting to read. For
example, Ramki mentioned the following story in another thread:
Do you remember the 'vizhiyil vizhundhu' (alaigal oyvadhillai) song?
Andha situation BRkku suddenaaga thondra, VMkku outdoor shootingil irundhu
phone seidhu kettuLLaar. VM phoneliye lyrics solla adhai tape seidhu
udanae IRkku anuppa, IR Janaki, Shailaja, PS ellariayum koppitturkkar
but no one was available. BSS mathram dhan mattirkkanga so avangalukku
adichadhu adhirshtam. The whole song was done in just 2 hrs time.
Annikke song shoot panni mudichittaangalaam.
Folks, please share any such stories, anecdotes and tit-bits that
you know, in this thread. If TFM Group thinks it is sufficiently
interesting, they could even place it in Permanent Topics.

Hi,
Can someone briefly write in English about what Sivamani said about IR and ARR. It would be very helpful for guys like me (don't know Tamil, but interested in music).
thanks,
srikanth

bones:
I read the interview you've written
in another thread. Seems like the interview
was just to know about whether IR family
listens to ARR's music or not. But YSR
naluvified at last. Does Raaja listen to ARR's
music is still a mystery.
IR watches only three cable channels and
MTV isn't one among them. There he makes the
mistake.

hi sathya,
This is in reference to the article in kungumam on nithyashree vs rahman. i had written to nithyasree and her sis-in-law who is maintaining nithyashree's website gives the following info:
______________________________________
Dear Mr.Badri,
All that's there in the magazine is a piece of crap which they managed to publish
without nithyasree's knowledge. It was true that Nithyasree got an offer to sing in the movie Engineer but since she was not in station and the song had to be completed soon as rehman was leaving out of station it was recorded with sujatha. These rumours are spread by some lower cadre men in the industry.Nithyasree's husband just happened to return the call to give them an alternate appoinment for recording and got
unfortunately trapped in the news...
______________________________________
I hope it puts an end to the speculation

The news about Nithyasree's husband cancelling a recording was false. No appointment was fixed.she had commited for an concert in Then Kasi .Since the recording was asked for on that day she could not sing for rehman. Moreover,Nithyasree's Husband is genuinely interested in her doing well. Why should they cancel a recording with rehman.

Badri:
Thanks for posting that reply from Ms Nityashree's
side. I wonder why Kungumum published such a wrong
news prominently! My guess is that they got the
news that Nithyashree was cancelled for that song
and replaced by Sujatha, and then thirichchufied
the news to make a sensational reading for the
readers. This kind of "low-level" thing is
common in Thamizh magazines.

Thie week Kungumam has another article about ARR - Nithyashree incidenet.
In that Nithya has told her experience with ARR, Shankar & VM during the recording...
How simple these guys are!!! and how VM helped her
in pronouncing and the expression
when she calls "thalaivaaaaaa.....".
How surprised she was to hear the whole song, during the
cassatte release ceremony!!!
She also mentioned that when ARR called for the
next song recording, she was out of town.
Her hubby has been TRYING to reach ARR to explain that
but so far NOT successful.
(ARRku enna ALA illai to get singers!!!
I don't think ARR will use her again for any song)
In another magazine ThiraiChuvai there is a Q&A
section with Nithya..there were close to 20 Qs..
whatever I remembered...

(Posted with Author's permission from SCT - Rajaraman.)
Rehman went by the name of Dilip when he was my classmate in the mid to late seventies at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB), Tirumalai Pillai (TP) road branch in Madras.
He even sat next to me for a while in the 3rd standard (1975-76). I remember him well for two things:
1) He was very good at music - He used to play his piano sized Yamaha keyboard during Thursday General Assembly sometimes. I vaguely recall that
even our principal Mrs. Y.G. Parthasarathy used to come over from the Main School to listen to him. A silver haired gentleman in a lungi, who I remember
as being his grandfather, used to bring that keyboard to school just before the General Assembly whenever Dilip had to play.
2) He had very bad personal hygiene - I know because he gave me scabies, which I promptly carried home and shared with my family. As a result my mother had to wash all our clothes in Dettol for a month and a half, and we had to use this ointment(I forget the name) which came in a half white, half orange colored tube. My mother also insisted that I change my place in the
class room, and inform the class teacher about Dilip.
At that time there was no indication that he was Muslim. We did have some Muslims (Khalid, Faisal,...) in our class, but I don't remember him being particularly thick with them. Since he was sitting next to me I think I must have spoken to him at length, but I do not recall him being Muslim at all.
I am not sure when he left PSBB, but it was either in the 4th or 5th standard. It was much later that I heard through other classmates that he left school because our principal, Mrs YGP was not supportive whatever that meant.
After he left school I remember seeing him on Madras TV, playing his keyboard (late 70s, early 80s). I think he still went by the name of Dilip at that time.
Then, when Roja came out, I saw his picture on the cassette with the name A.R. Rehman and called my other school friends. They confirmed that this Rehman was none other than Dilip.
