After the high profile debut Karthik Raja had,has he really fulfilled the expectations from him?I feel that he has been brilliant in Ullasam and the Hindi movie Grahan, but not really earth-shattering as Rahman was in 92-93.What is his current status in TFM ? And what do our DF members think about his future ??

Regarding KR's Music:
Its my personal opinion that KR composes complex
musical notations at times compared to ARR,
however these dont seem to be appealing much to
the common listener, who just wants a kick out of the song,I think he needs to compose more on a
commercial sense.

Maybe the movies didn't click but his songs are good to listen especially his NINI.Lets hope he gives some competition to ARR and we get the best out of them.

SARA,
May be karthikraja will be clicked some day but in NO WAY he can give competition to ARR. It's like comparing computer and TV. At the same time I like KR's music only couple of songs or memorable.
1. Nadiyodu...from 'Alexander'.
2. Unakkennarasa from 'Manickam'
Kadala kadal was areal disappointment.

You wanna listen to facts...i mean FACTS?
huh?
ok.....here goes...
1) The first indian musician ,ever, to be promoted by music hotshots 'Sony Music',internationally.
2) The album 'Vande Mataram' was released in Asia & the U.S simultaneously. No indian artiste has got such worldide publicity as yet.....
3) Has built a state-of-the-art audio recording studio in Madras, which is unparallel in sound quality and refinement.
4) Was the first to create synthesizer-oriented music in his first album 'Roja'
5) Programmed musical notes for the so-called musical maestro, Illayaraja, even in IR's very recent films.
and the list goes on and on......
And the person fitting into all these....
~A.R.Rahman~
Starting with his ground breaking performance in 'Roja', till his recent 'Jeans',A.R.Rahman shows why people like Karthik Raja are no match for him.....even if he does not say so!
The creativity.....use of various instruments, the bass guitar, drums, percussion, just mesmerizes you...and soon enough you start to think....after listening to the same crap from Illayaraja again and again.....this guy is GOOD.
and frankly......tamil films are just not him. Sure they were a platform for his entrance to the indian music field.....but that does not mean that he has to end his career with them.
Tamil Films?
oh god...another load of crap!
same old damn love stories.....running around the trees.....'hero' finally saves the day....where the same heroes think of nothing else but songs & dances and sex.....
A.R.Rahman's superb sound quality(if you had cared to notice), is marred by the useless video tape quality which directors use during filming!
Some...only some songs composed by IR were creative. But otherwise....it was just a repetition of the former....again.again and again!
Just by adding a few more instruments here and there, he proclaimed a totally new song!
NONSENSE!
and....ironically, Karthik Raja, whose music truely sucks, has the cheek to even comment about A.R.Rahman's songs.
well, it is definitely up to the reader to think hard and finally conclude who stands out most. I am sure it is not much of a problem. is it?

Balan,
I believe you got too emotional. I am a fan of both IR and ARR songs. this topic is regarding KR and not a comparison between IR and ARR.
We here are concerned about KR, who has not made lasting effect till except a couple of songs.
In the facts, I would like to point out some faults.
1) Was the first to create synthesizer-oriented music in his first album 'Roja'
No IR has done that before (may be ARR has assisted him but that's IR should not be blamed for that.)
Programmed musical notes for the so-called musical maestro, Illayaraja, even in IR's very recent films.
What are those recent films. specify (if you don't mind)
Starting with his ground breaking performance in 'Roja',No doubt, it was a ground breaking performance, but I wish he does n't break into the underground soon, because the FACT is what ARR is producing now a days are below average. (sorry to say that)
And last please hear POONTHOTTAM you will come to know the 'so-called Maestro' (to put in your words). And my personal conclusion it will take more time for ARR to compose a small piece IR has done in few minutes.

I am seeing a hardcore ARR fan in Balan who completely rejects IR. Anyway, why would you do this in a posting on KR? Please listen to IR songs
before rejecting not that anybody cares if you
reject him.

Karthik Raja do music with the combination of Raja & ARR. After listening the songs of Manikkam, I watched the movie. It was missrable for me. Why did KR compose the music without knowing the scene situation. It was a big drawback for him as well as his brother Yuvan. Yuvan did the music for the film Aravindan. He put some kind of Rock&Disco and it was good. Mellody songs also good in that film. When I saw the picture, again it was big blow for me.
When I heared Ullasam I hoped that KR can come up. Then it was shattered he also made the mistake what ARR did. Almost in all the films of KR, "Udith Narayan" sung songs. padu mOsam. If he comes out of the boundry of ARR and IR then he can shine in TFM. Raja family also did one big mistake by giving chance to Bhavatharini.. avanga padum podhu nama pavatharini-ya maridarom.
If KR and YR correct these mistakes then they are the kings. KR scored the BG music for the Marudhanayagam Trailer. Hope he will do the music for the film.(if it realy comes out!!!!:):):)!!! Kamal fans adikkatheengappa.)
KR & YR Wish You All The Best

gOpAl,
You are correct. I can't believe that this kid can do such a music. Absolutely
amazing. Looks like a good contender for vidhyAsAgar in terms of
real originality and versatility.

i think YSR and KR really need some time to mature and fall into a groove of their own.right now till what i have heard of their songs , they are not even a shade of what IR was in the early eighties.
IR had the 'veri' to achieve something and to prove a point.i do not know whether these youngsters have the same dedication or they just compose something for fun.

I believe that KR has inherited the first son syndrome in Thamizh culture, where he has been ordained as the keeper of the family flame. I read some interview of IR where IR spoke of KR's musical career in a very serious manner, whereas he was casual about YSR's music. I pity KR because he is expected to fill IR's mighty big shoes by fans as well as IR himself. This is why I believe KR is trapped from blossoming into his own, he is too close to the IR legacy to have his own voice.
Now, YSR is another story. YSR, without any major expectation hovering over his head, may easily blossom into something very exciting and unique. I know he is very much in the raw, but his style is decidedly and refreshingly different from IR and KR. I wish them all well.

Guys,
KR has himself called A R Rahman a "genius", in a Filmfare interview. Period. Case closed!!
