while many have accused him of overacting,
i think he was remarkably adaptive-my personal favorites were uyarndha manidhan and motor sundaram pillai where his acting was so subdued and realistic.
may his soul rest in peace and our condolences to the bereaved family.

You are an encyclopaedia
Not only for acting
But for living as well
Oh, why does the sun continue shining
And the earth, revolving
Mourn, my fellow men
For life has suddenly lost all its meaning
Thamizhaa oh Thamizhaa
I offer you nothing
But my tears
From Malaysia

Sivaji Ganesan was a persona that seemed to stand behind every one of us in Tamilnadu and we felt sure that everything is fine. with his passing away, first among the last of the social greats alive has left us behind to grope our way to some cultural sanity in today's plastic era. i feel alone.

Dear Fellowmen,
I hereby pay my humble homage to the one and only 'Nadigar Thilagam' Dr. 'Sivaji' Ganesan, the only congenital actor.
Let us all pray for His soul to rest in peace and for His families, ie, personal family and the Family of Indian Cinema, for both of which, He is the unprotested Emperor.
Let us cry not only for the present loss but also for the fact that there is none to replace Him in future.
Vaazhga Sivaji Ayya Pugazh!

His performance in "Gowravam" as Senior Lawyer was something I would never forget. No other performace by any other actor has ever shook me like the one he did in that moive. He "defined" extremely well the character of a aggressive, principled and somewhat benevelontly egoistic lawyer.
It would probably be hundreds of years before someone like him would come up in Tamil movie.

the greatest thing about shivaji was his work ethics. besides punctuality, he took pains to understand the characters using unusual (at least to ifm) means: gowravam (observing ttkvAsu?), bAbu (visiting the slums to understand the lives of rikshawkArar-s), taking preliminary lessons with umayALpuram for mridhanga chakravarthi, ... maNisegaran would be the right person to list and elaborate on all these aspects. eventho' he has not been very active in the movies for about a couple of decades now, it saddens to know that he is dead. as one of his famous "vasanams" in vietnam vIdu sundharam: "nI mundhindA onakku, nAn mundhindA enakku"!

Dear Arularacan
My heart is indeed heavy that Sivaji Ganesan has passed away, though his last days were expected. My daughter sudenly told me this morning at the breakfast table that she really missed him. I was so surprised that even the current generation appreciated his acting. My daugthers saw Thillana Mohanambal and Navarathiri several times. They were really amazed at 9 Sivajis in Navarathiri.
Talking about Sivaji, many aspects of the Tamil cine field-songs, music, acting, etc could be associated with Sivaji Ganesan.
There had been many factions within the cine filed, but they all appreciated Sivaji's acting. Imagine MGR seeing Thillana Mohanambaal twice!
I am currently contributing a series on KVM ina Malaysian Tamil weekly called "NAYANAM". The article is called "POI VAA ISAI ALAIYE" Otherwise I would be glad to contribute on Sivaji. I remember contributing on MGR for a year when he passed away. That came out as a book.
Mere words would not suffice to pay tribute to the one and the only great actor of our time. In future other actors could only rival him, but can never never replace him.

"Nadippin Ilakkaname", may your soul rest in peace!
Though he had been complained of 'Over-Acting'..., in my heart he is the best actor to have ever roamed on this planet..
He was a pokkisham which the Central/State govts failed to acknowledge properly! (may be his failed political attempts played against him!!)
Wish the younger actors try to learn a trick or two from him!!
May his fame remain forever
Truly Missing you ...
Balaji

Never felt so sad.
Sivaji was part of our growing up. At school every year "Thangappadhakkam" used to be screened. While at college every year we saw "Vasantha Maaligai".
My sister used to maintain a photo album of Sivaji and all his heroins cut from various magazines like "Pesum Padam", "Cinema Express" etc. We siblings all were taking part in that. I called my sister in India and she also felt sad. We felt we lost something in us. It doesn't feel good to know that we are getting older...
It was through movies Sivaji reached us; so we will never miss him, because his movies are going to stay here forever...

Sivaji V.C. Ganesan was really Great in Acting,
Though He acted Overactingly,But Just Think abt that Who would be the (Guru)guide for that Overacting to him....? ,i am just asking them who says "His act is Over...."
He was a teacher to all the Actors....,but He had no teacher at all...
He did his acting carieer as equal from his foremost film "Paraasakthi" to his Last film "Padaiiappa".

He was an actor par excellence. There is nothing called over acting, its all in the minds of the audience, and their level of acceptance of a character. There is no need for practicality in potraying a character, after all this is acting. And there is no doubt that, Shivaji gave his best in potraying each and every character that he took up in films. Can we imagine any other tamil actor as Karnan, Kattabomman or VOC? The word over-acting in tamil cinema world is nothing but comparison with another actor. We cannot forget any character that was potrayed by Sivaji. Longlive! Sivaji's art.
