AR Rahman is the 'order of the day'. He still remains a quiet genius. His albums be it film or seperate basics are successful.
Does it have anything to do with IR, who has wasted his time and his fans' time in tamil film music as per his pondy university (stunt)statement?
What does this have to do anyway with AR Rahmans success with a fanfare of the next generation,(Iam sure this will be true even with the grand children of IR), whose presentations are relished and enjoyed beyond discriminations all over the world.
AR Rahman has gone far and far above as a super star and IR without doubt stands on his own pedestal meant for him (ofcourse, promoting KR and YSR). AR Rahman beyond comparison! This thread is unnecessary!

WHy did you leave out HJ, Yuvan and Pravin Mani....etc... I felt ARR's era is slowly coming to an end. That can be visualised from the consecutive flops of '12ka4' and 'zubeidda'...You yourself have put it correctly. He "Still" remains.. There are many MDs who can offer a similar stuff now. ARR is no more unique.

Well. IR did not speak anything wrong. See the title of the meeting. What TF has offered for people in last 75 years. He spoke to the title like everybody else. People have freedom to express their feelings. Thank god that did not happen. IR is ever green...untired...has proved that in latest movie 'Friends'

IR's success is his endurance...Even western music is enjoyed by the entire set of world. Do you say carnatic music is of sub-standard for that matter. ARR just gave a western stuff in tamil? Wait and see what happens...

Far and far means where? People feel too...much about ARR. Nothing wrong...Comparing him with IR is certainly a big mistake...can never be forgiven....

Hi rukks
just becos i wrote...I am proud of ARR...doesnt mean that he is the best...do you agree that he has done a bad work in films like "thenali....zubeda...12ka4...".....i can assure you that barring a handful of songs ..rehman cannot carry forward the songs to the next decade....he has to constantly keep making them ...thats because he gives a new sound...but with no musical quality to appreciate it for a long time....if you are still not satisfied with what i mean by quality....stop a minute...and listen to the songs of "anjali"...or listen to the guitar pieces of "nee thane enthan ponvasantham"...or the jassy track of "ram bam bam "....its this stuff which will remain in ur mind for a long time....
ARR cannot make a song which would satisy a musician's point of view....how many college fests have you seen students trying to reproduce ARR'S songs...of course i am not denying the wonderful sound he has introduced..thanks to his guitarist kabuli...bassist keith peters and siva mani.....and a whole lot of greats ...singing for him....he did bring a lot of cheer when he made all the leading singers and panditji's of the country..to sing for his "vande mataram"....
but to compare him with IR is weird...IR has stood the test of time...we only wish him immortality....it will be quite interesting to see how he withstands the pressures of time....
i have been hearing that his "lagaan"...is his best ever...lets wait and watch.....

IR has proved beyond doubt that his music is immortal...i only wish he was

dei saitan,
IR is the worst daa. Dei goundamani saitan, nee veetla poi thoongha vendiya neram vandudichu. It is now time for comedians like Vivek. It is the same for IR also. It is high time that he keeps his mouth shut and get last from Tamilnadu and if possible from India itself.

This discussion has gone totally offtrack sadly and people i see, are satisfying their own egos rather than have a healthy discussion.
AR Rahman and Ilayaraja are geniuses in their own respect. In the sense, Rahman has not 'over-taken' Ilaiyaraja. I mean there is no thing called 'undo', right? Just because raja ruled the 80's doesnt mean that MSV ran out of ideas. People's taste change and so ilayaraja was considered the sensation of after-MSV era. whereas these days, rahman's music is the in-thing. Though am a die-hard fan of Rahman, I do believe Ilayaraja's contribution to Music is nothing short of brilliance.
And someone mentioned Zubeidaa's music is a flop... I would say Put your prejudice away and listen to Door Kahin ek Aam Ki Bagiyan...or even Hai Na...This Door Kahin just goes to prove that there may be hundreds trying to make his style of music but there is only one AR Rahman.

Illayaraja is the best musician ive heard so far.
Undisputed genius. But Rehman is the best Sound Engineer! I would'nt call him a Musician but he is a Tecno Musician. Unfortunately his music is artificial and not ever lasting! except for a few songs. These are momentary hits. But IR's songs are everlasting......

Travis,
The Zubeida songs you mentioned are good songs or hit songs?

ARR fans,
Please stay away. That will save you energy and time. It took me a while to realize that this forum is full of IR fans. who seem to think ARR is "trash". what ever u write one thing that u will keep hearing is
"IR is a genius...ARR cannot even compared to him". IR may be a phenomenon but to say that ARR cannot be compared to him is JUST F***ING nonsense. every person who grew up listening to ARR's music(ppl like me) know this. as i said this forum is full of IR supporters so even if you substantiate your claim with valid points, i doubt if it wud be accepted here. anyway music is always a matter of one's taste/prefrence. So why fight over it? AR Rahman is a very special human being / composer....so lets just relax and enjoy the next release from the MAESTRO...

sridhar,
For your kind information! It is not only in this forum, where ever people talk about music, they will talk about the Genius of Illayaraja. Nobody have every put a restriction here that only Isai Gnani's fans should discuss. People who love music loves the creativity of the Maestro this is natural.

Venky,
who said that IR is the best musician. Sridhar, dont worry here are some die hard ARR fans. But i accept that whatever we substantaite with valid points they dont accept. So better trash them out. I know that this forum is mostly of IR fans previously. But now trend is changing. Now its all ARR fans. Its time that these IR fans get lost from here.
One guy by name Vijay venkatraman is finding all people to join his so called Maestro fans club and I dont know how much commision he gets out of this.
Hello VV, people should come automatically .dont force them by monetary means.

Dear IR fans,
this argument goes on and on... as the famous coffy-bite ad goes. But I dont know about the icily loyal IR fans, But I am 20 and the majority of peers of my age I have seen in my life do only seem to like ARR.
It is a pity that we do agree that IR is a legend but we dont get reciprocation, at least courtesy, that ARR is a legend in his own right but only more mud-slinging that he is only technician, which is the heights of disrespect. None of the 'them' seem to admit to the fact ARR has indeed created history as far as music goes.
What do u guys want to tell me? Sridhar, who works for rahman in his studio, can create music as good as rahman, the sound engineer. Next what, the lavatory attendant? I dont mean to be derogatory in any way of Mr. Sridhar, nor do i know about his personal skills in composing, he is just a point in light.
The blind proposition that IR is GOD and the rest are trash probably have kept you from realizing the immensity of ARR's contribution to TFM.
Dear s,
I dont know whether they are hit or not, but Door Kahin from Zubeidaa, IMO, is a milestone in Indian music, and it is sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
Listen to it and then you will know what i mean.
