Ten of the greatest instrumental bits

Friends, I am just being swept away once again after a long gap of 6 years by the consummate and enhanting musical compositions of Ilaiyaraja. Here, I want to list 10 of the best instrumental pieces I have heard from across most genres of music. This way, I am sure many more new listeners can appreciate the absolute greatness of IR's compositions. I always felt that IR, who is perhaps the rarest of the rare and the most perfect creative artiste of all, needs some more spreading the gospel by people like me to enable many more people to be aware of, and enjoy this great man's creations. Hope this thread gets some input of any nature, but please focus only on interludes of IR and others as well.

  Since IR is overrepresented here, let me add some balance to the collection
  My Alternative Top Ten:
  
  10. Violin interludes at the start and the middle of "Oar Aayiram Paarvayilae."
  9. The many transitions from Arabic, to Gypsy, to Tamil pop and classical music in "Oru Raaja Raniyidam."
  8. The flute and percussions in "Usilambatti Penkutti."
  7. The ominous opera-like orchestration in "Engae Nimmathi."
  6. The violin in "Vaan Nila Nila Alla."
  5. The saxophone by Kadhri Gopalnath in "Anjali Anjali Pushpanjali."
  4. The most romantic Waltz in TFM, "Nilavum Malarum Vaaduthu."
  3. The Nadaswaram vs. Western music bit from "Thillana Moganambal."
  2. The best piano composition in a Tamil song, "Unnidam Mayangukiraen" a classic by V. Kumar.

  I still enjoy the two great beat/rhythm songs from Thanga Magan - Pooo Maalai & Va Va Pakkam Va. IR had used Drums, Keyboards etc., in a stunning fashion so long ago.
  
  Nithin, what do you think about those songs? Is it a typical imagination of IR or any influence of a particular western composer/group/style? I am interested to hear about it. Thanks

  If you are interested in Carnatic music, then the interludes in "Mazhai Kodukkum" poetry of Karnan is sure to appeal to you. As mentioned by Udhaya, Enge Nimmadhi has terrific interludes.
  
  Digression : I had heard from someone that when Enge Nimmadhi was recorded, no other recording took place in Madras that day since all violinist have been recruited for this song. The words of this song are also terrific.

  i think the song having one of the greatest classical music interludes is missing from the list.the song is 'poomaalai vaangivandhan' from sindhu bhairavi.the second interlude has a great violin piece which makes me so much emotional every time i listen to it.kaanada has been dissected and picked apart by IR.The best song till to date in kaanada.

  Who can forget the music of the great G Ramanathan from Utthamaputhiran.The song "Yaaradi Nee Mohini".It is a classic mixture of Rock and Roll and tamil music fusion.
  
  Interlude in "Poo malaye" Second back ground. Violin piece in Nizhalgal(poogathave). The orchestration in Vaanam Kizheye Vandhal enna.

  I just saw Ninaiathale Inikkum y'day. MSV had a great time composing 14 songs.
  
  Adatha manamum aduthe music interlude is superb by AM raaja.

  This is a very old song, I think from 'Parasakthi' - 'Oh Rasikkum Seemane...' It had astounding filling pieces for that period. Another personal favourite are the interludes in 'Nalam Vaazha..'
