i think "copying" is there for a long time in tamil film history. Here we discuss the tamil songs copied from others.
1.Vedha:i know he always go for a hindi tune in his films(mostly for Modern theatres). No alterations! he just copy a full hindi song !
best examble:Manam ennum medai mele(Gil tho ye kulu yahag)
2.MSV: i hear that(from Sujatha's book"Neerkumiligal") "thulluvatho elamai" was a song copied from english to almost all famous indian langages. Is there any other songs MSV copied?
3.Illayaraja:Even the GOD of MUSIC Raja sir did some thing like this.He just used that "I love you"style from BOneyM Sunny for "darling darling"in priya.I have heard a totally same song like "Kanavu kanum valkkai yavum" in Hindi also.(i forgot the film).
and i dont know who is the MD for the song"ehu pal vadiyum mugam! ethai parpathu than sugam".But i heard the same song in an english film.
4.ARR : i was told from my friends that he did copying intelligently.drum beats and some music styels from cassettes like "enigma, ace of base".And the humming before the song "thillana thillana" is a 100%copy from the film"the island of Dr.Mozeru".
5.SA Rajkumar : a lot of help from hindi! best example "mallikai puve malligai puve parthaya" from "didi tera thevaru thevana"
5.DEVA:hee..hee..the master.(better we see how many songs he did on his own instead of seeing how many songs he copied!)
like wise there is a lot of songs are copied from Tamil to Hindi also..
Now its your turn friends....

Latest copy by ar rahman,
'Pachai nirame pachai nirame' is 'twinkle twinkle little star's slightly fast version. Even if it is not a copy, it nothing more than a nursery rhyme.

the mugam title score...is much much better than any of those Stravinsky pieces....sriks I seriously couldn't find any resemblence between the 17th bit and the title score...Hail Raja!!

iam not sure if this has been mentioned before....
'Thennaiyella Thottil Katti ' song in Kadhalan is an exact replica of one of the BGM's in 16 Vaiyathineleee - the BGM piece when Kamal thinks as if Sridevi is serving him dinner (in fact IR himself has a song on the same piece in some other movie.....

I feel there is similarity between:
"(Kodutha sandhangalil) en manadhai nee ariya naan uraithen" line of "Sippi Irukkudhu" in "Varumayin Niram Sigappu"
and
"(roja roja) roja roja roja roja roja roja" of "Roja Roja" in "Kadhalar Dhinam"
---
The first bass-beat of "Kuluvalile" of "Muthu" is already there in english movie "Sister Act" BGM [when the sister's of the Church go out and do public work, motivated by Whoopi Goldberg]
---
"Sowgiyama" of "Sangamam" and "OruNaalPodhumaa" of "Thiruvilaiyadal" are not that close; but, one gets memories

Deva does it again! :-)))
The song "Poo Virinchachu" from his latest movie Mugavari is a straight lift from the song "That thing you do" by The Wonders.
The Deva version is available at www.raaga.com and the original version is available at this site.

Actually, I think that the whole album (Mugavari) is another mix'n'remix efort by Deva!
The song 'O Nenje O nenje" sounds dangerously similar to some Backstreet Boys song...(I could be wrong on this one though!) And "ye Nilave" sounds like "Vanna Nilave Vanna Nilvae" ( a Hariharan song from some recent film)!
Way to go Deva! :)

if you listen carefully to the maria maria song (kadhalar dinam) you can immediately spot a callous lift by ARR.He has plagiarised shamelessly from the album "Sounds of the win modem". (You can check this out-its supplied with almost all the windows machines)

if you listen carefully to the 'vaan megam' song (punnagai mannan) you can immediately spot a callous lift by IR. He has plagiarised &@#$*#$&ly from the album "Sounds of the Nature". (You hear the same sound while raining!!!)
I guess my argument is correct, if spotter is right!.

AIS,
You can't beat ARR at this. The list is endless
Vandemataram a ditto copy from Bengali poet Bankim Chandra's work.
Jana gana mana a subtle rework of Tagore's poem
btw, ARR has also heavily borrowed from the "Waves" track of "The sounds of nature" album you mentioned in "Kadhal sadugudu"!

I happened to listen to Peter Gabriel's "Passion". The beats for "Kya karen kya naa karen" (Rangeela) and "Ayyayyo" also from Rangeela(which is similar to the beat for "anbe anbe" from Jeans) are heavily inspired from this album.

Hi
arr,s song 'kannala kannala roja poo' from 'uzhavan' bears a striking resemblence to IR's 'pesum manimuthu rojakkal' from (I think)

Hi!
Have u heard the symphony piece of IR in Hey!Ram cassette at the end of the song sung by Mahalakshmi. It resembles the BGM in 'sundari' from THALAPATHI.Do u agree?
- From: kk (@ bbndrel5.net.external.hp.com)
on: Mon Mar 6 08:09:06 EST 2000
I heard sundari is inspired from some bethovan's symphony no. XX. Do any one know which one?
- From: Blues (@ 202.54.125.181)
on: Mon Mar 6 10:45:35 EST 2000
KK,
'Sundari Kannaal Oru Sedhi' was a pure Indian melody, beased on Raga Kalyani. Even the the interlude complete with a chorus & violin combo follows the same raga. Where did Beethoven's symphone No. X come in this?
It's very easy to accuse, but Proof? That's a different thing altogether, isn't it?
Don't you think you exposed yourself by mentioning something stupid like "Symphony No.XX"
What next, Sundari Neeyum Sundaran Nyanum, inspired by Vivaldi's 'some X Season'?

I was watching 'Mudhalvan' yesterday. One of the pieces seem to be from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. This BGM is played whenever there is tension. I think, 'Ecce Gratum' from same album is used in 'putttham pudhu bhUmi vEndum' in 'thiruda thiruda'. but I could be mistaken.

Blues,
Iam not accusing, I heard this in a quiz show in madras. I suppose it should like NBW kind of fusion. They said something like its based on symphony no5 moment 41 or the other way round. SInce some one was taking about this song I wanted to clarity.

The catchy beat of uppu karuvadu came in padaiyappa itself during the climax stages.Anyone noticed?
The beat for "yaaron sun lo zara" and "ye muthu paappa" from vandicholai chinrasu are the same.

Many of the comments made here about music copying
are as silly as the idiotic comment that Kumudham
made about IR's copying two weeks ago.
