Hi,
I dont know whether u guys left it since u know but I think the obvious song that come to my mind for Bilahari is i think
"Broche Vaa Revarura" Shankarabharanam
"Maamma oodu machee oodu" Ellame inbamayam

chandramouli, broche vaa and 'mama voodu' are definitely not in the same raaga.i think broche vaa is kamas.

saketh,
It is "nee ondru thaanaa sangeetham".
"maaman oodu machi oodu" is based on the "raara venugopala"(bilahari) mettu.

Mouli,
Brochevaru is in Kamas. not Bilahari. Do you remember the song "Dorakuna" from Sankarabaranam. This is the one in which Balu coughs a it. The first line is from a Tyagaraja krithi. Dorakuna Itu vanti seva. This kriti was based on Bilahari. They used Kalyani in the film. Only the first line is from the krithi. The other lines differ. Even from older films I cannot recollect Bilahari. I dont know why they didnt use it. Maybe because it has a strong carnatic flavour and it is difficult to dilute. I think the same applies to ragams like Begada. ( In Raja Parvai, Kamal is singing Rara Venugopala when his grandmother dies. Maybe they used it b'cause it ends as Ni-Sa which has other connotations). I havent heard Maaman Oodu so I cannot comment on this.

There is a scene in unnAl mudiyum thambi in which Gemini is teaching Ramesh Arvind. They are singing brochEvA in kamaas in that scene. This is when he discovers that Ramesh and his daughter are in love.

Hi,
Iam sorry about Broche vaa revarura. Its indeed kamas. But ofcourse "Maaama oodu machi oodu" is bilahari since its got the same tune as "Raara venu gopapaala". I am sorry I dont know how I could make such an egregious error. I think it just slipped my mind and I had posted this in a haste without even checking it once. Sorry Folks

No, BHOOPALAM ISAIKKUM is in Keeravani, pretty close to Gowri manohari (Ni2)
Interestingly, another song from the film "ThangaCh Changili" is also based on Keeravani.

hi friends,
there is an excellent song in bilahari from the movie balanagamma sung by kj jesudas. the song is "koondalile megam vandu". ir has used shylaja's humming in very appropriate situations especially in the last charanam.

on: Thu May 14 02:54:01 EDT 1998
Udhaya and Neels,
I was trying out the song on my keyboard. Both d1 and d2 appear in the charanam. So it is actually a combination of both keeravanai and gowri manohari. Is there some raga with these swaras?

"maniyE, manikuyilE" - mano & SJ duet,

"sAmakozhi koovum bhodhu" - SPB & SJ duet (from
vanna vanna pookal???) is MMG?
Anybody can confirm?

rajaraman,
the first two lines of manjolai atleast is not definitely karaharapriya.'poo malarnthida' from tik tik tik is karaharapriya.u can notice the vast difference between the 2 songs.i think manjolai is a raagamalika in the first place.and the first 2 lines sounds like hindolam.anybody can confirm?

on: Fri May 15 04:35:32 EDT 1998
Maniye manikuyile-Sindhubhairavi or Todi....Hari, pls confirm........
Manjolai kilithaano-I don't remember the song too well, but I think it is Suddha Dhanyasi(old name Uthayaravichandrika....). Tonal shift from Hindolam, both are janya's of KHPriya....
- From: S.Suresh (@ dwarpal.wipsys.soft.net)
on: Fri May 15 05:03:31 EDT 1998
Mannaru,
I think sAmakozhi koovum bhodhu is MMG.
I doubt if Maniye manikuyile is in Todi. Must be SindhuBhairavi.

on: Fri May 15 05:51:09 EDT 1998
Vijay
It may be a ragamalika. The last time I heard, there were some good KKpriya shades in the interludes. Well... I need to confirm.
maniye manikkuyile is based on Natabairavi.
- From: M. Diwakar (@ j15.bkj23.jaring.my)
on: Fri May 15 07:19:10 EDT 1998
Geetha, Hindolam is not a janya of KHPriya. It uses the D1. It is possibly a janya of Todi.
Suddha Danyasi is a janya of KHPriya.

Hi, sorry about that........
Hindholam is :
S G M D N S
S N D M G S from Natabairavhi/Todi
Uthayaravichandrika/Sudha Dhanyasi is:
S G M P N S
S N P M G S from Karaharapriya

1) Poomalai Vaangivanthen Pookal Illayee - Sindhu Bairavi

'oru kungumach chengamalam' is almost Gowri Manohari, but both M1 and M2 are present in the pallavi. Is there any ragam with this structure?

Can I know what is the raga of the song
chinna kannan allaikiraan..
raadhai..poongodhai..
of the film kavikuyil(if I'm not wrong) sung by carnatic fame Dr.Balamuralikrishna.

Aravind,
The song "chinna kannan azhaikkiraan" is a fantastic song based on the raga Riti Gowla. Other film songs based on riti gowla are 'thalaiyai kuniyum thaamaraiye" (from oru odai naddhiyaagiradhu?) and 'raaman kadhai kelungal'from sippikkul muthu.
