Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.

Song of the Day: chittukkuruvi chittukkuruvi sEdhi theriyumaa from Town Bus.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/chittukkuruvi.rm
- Manisegaran writes on this song in his treatise on KVM ( in this page: http://www.newtfmpage.com/my/mani/kvm.html )
METEORIC RISE
Now we come to Town Bus a film that is still being spoke of and one that was very much loved by KVM himself. Before this KVM had composed music for a few movies and they may or may not have run well. In the case of Town Bus, it had good story line to capture the cine goers, and at the same time there were wonderful songs as well. In my interview with KVM I asked KVM which was his first film, and to my shock he said "Town Bus" I said couldn’t be. He then qualified and stressed that he could have composed for so many films, but Town Bus was his "first super hit movie" and so he decided to remember that movie as his first. Very much true! It was Town Bus that popularised KVM further and immortalised his name and fame.
This was another production of M.A.V Pictures of MA Venu, with story and dialogue scripted by APN and directed by K. Somu. N.N. Kannappa was the hero with Anjali Devi as heroine. Other stars were TK Ramachandran, VK Ramasamy, MN Rajam, Thamabram Lalitha etc, which clearly indicate that this was not a great star-rated movie. But then this film ran on the strength of songs comnpsed by KVM. There is a hit song here that is still hinges somewhere in our inner m,ind, and with the slightest effort, comes to our mind. Years, nay decades and even close to half a century has passed since tghis song was noised in Tamilnadu and abroad. But it continues to ring in our ears, without losing the sweetness. That immortal song by M.S. Rajeswary is:
Chittu Kuruvi Chittu Kuruvi Seithi Theriyuma?
Ennai Vittu Pirinji Pona KanavanVeedu Thirumbala.
Pattu methai Virichu Vachen Summa Kedakkuthu
Pasum paalai Kaaichi Eduthu vachen Aari Kidakkuthu.
Thalaiyai Vaari Poo Mudichen Vaadi Vathanguthu
Sathaa Theruvil Vanthu nNinru Ninru Kaalum Kadukkuthu
Vazhiyai Vazhiyai Paarthu Paarthu
Kannum Noguthu-Avar
Vanthaal Pesa Niraya Sethi
Nenjil Irukkuthu
There is also a sad version of this song. This song had some specialities, and the credit goes to KVM. It was meant for the heroin, but was compsoed in such a way that it could be enjoyed by elders and youngsters alike. That was the motive of the whole song, said Ka Mu Sheriff to a few of us when he came to attend the Tamil Writers Association in Kuala Lumpur in 1984.
He said that the song will always be part of our daily lives. Whenever we see chittukuruvi in our compound this song comes to our mind. The song has a sweetness that is eternal.
- I don't think we've featured M.S.Rajeswari before. Thread on MSR: http://www.newtfmpage.com/forum/18835.05:28:50.html

Incidentally Harris Jayaraj has used the tune for the first 2 lines of this song in the second interlude(violins play it) of"Aval ulaga azhagiye" in Leysa Leysa. Probably paying his tribute :-)

Raj,
"Sarkkarai nilave" Paattu okay - But antha lyrics (Esp 2nd charaNam) rompa funny-yaa illai ? you like mazai, I too like it, you like P. susheelaa, I too, you like XYZ, naanum ditto ... then why are you saying "No" to my deyveega kaathal ? .... I am wondering what Vijay would have done if that other person (who likes everything he likes ;-) is also a male :->
Sometimes, I feel VM is becoming too much of a 'complexity' ... viththiyaasamaa ethaavathu ezuthinaathaan VM-nnu stamp vizunthuttathaala, he is trying hard and coming-up with new new crazy ideas (??!!) ...

guys,
I thought "sakkarai nilavae" was written by some newcomer. If VM tries something new, even if they're crazy ideas, I'm all for it. My whole problem is he doesn't. He's recycling safe cliches even if he invented those inane phrases at some point.

Udhaya,
VM is trying new things - the 'thinnaathaey' kind of kaattumiraaNdi lyrics is his newest invention to TFM !!
Then 'devadhai kuLiththa thuLigaLai aLLi theerththam endRee naan kudippaen' and 'IvaL paatham kazuvum neeril samaiyal seyvaen' kind of lyrics ...
The 'fax-il vantha nandhavanam' type is always there ...
Come-on, Don't blame VM, he is all 'ILamai' - even at this 50+ Age :-)
:-P

NagaS,
The thinnathey wasn't a one time use for it to be new and unique. That's what I'm getting at. His latest is mellinam, idayinam; ahimsai, imsai; saivam, asaivam; all of which were cute the first time, but after 10 + songs they get under my skin. munnaadi vaetti virichu vinmeen, ippo thuppattaavil vaanam, naalaikku naidu hallil nilavunnuvaaru poala. There ought to be an expiration date on cliches after a set number of uses.

- A very rare SPB song to get into the weekend. I discovered this song for the first time today, and have been playing it again and again for a while now. SPB has sung this well, check out the starting which gives a feeling of a PBS/Ghantasala song. The song has good sitar interludes too.
- I have no idea about the music director (sounds like xxx-nnu pOttaa adi vizhum :) ), or the movie. I could not find any discussion on this song at all at newtfmpage or elsewhere! I guess this is a non-IR song of late 70s.

Aha, Saravanan to the rescue again. He has written on this song in the "memories of another day" thread a few days back:

Ragangal Padhinaru, Mazhaitharumo En Megham, Kadalodu Nadhikkenna Kobam, Mazhaiyum Neeye and Pon Enbadho Poo Enbadho -
SPB scintillates in such solos. This is also one of Ramanujam's immortal compositions (and grossly un(der)recognised.) The other tune of his that I cherish is "Siriththaal Andha Sirippil Oru Mogham."
Thank you for locating this rarity.

There aren't many around here who know about a composer named Ramanujam, so "Sirithaal Andha Sirippil..." has no meaning to them. It was lovely song, and I am glad I am among the few (including you and saravanan perhaps) who had the good fortune of listening to it.
