This is my question....Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam, Kavitha Krishnamurti,Sonu Nigam - All sing in Tamil. But their Tamil is really very bad. Are Tamils deaf, tolerant, or have no PERUMAI in their own language? Is there really a shortage of good, tamil-speaking singers? Or is this really Tamil Inferiority Complex?

Hello, Hello
Okay, guys, lets drop the sexism and gender-bias in our comments and postings. Remember: Hate first begins with Language (eg. listen to recent tamil film songs :-))
Anyone here interested in starting a webpage where we can list all the kannraavi language innovations (I feel that mispronunciation seems, as a word, to repel some types here), neologisms, and anglitamil arpudhams....? That would be a good slap in the face don't you think? Just as soon as the album is released we could congregate - listen to the songs on the list by the Sucks,Sads and Company and write up some scathing/sincere critiques. We could publicise the webpage so that the word get around - and before you know it - it might have an effect on MDs and Music Makers (what can I say, die-hard optimist - that's me!).
So let's see what you think...? Anyone willing to take on this true innovation to save Tamil?

Sakthi -
I fully concur. But please, what I (and others) are trying to ahcieve here is something of value - and to describe it as Saakadai is a touch harsh.
Oppose Sexism. Support Good Tamil! Sariya?

Guess all this was no more than Vilayaatu for you. I suspected that all along. Thanks for the confirmation. Your Joot is accepted.

en(counter) it deviated a bit. I truly apologise for that. I make sure that it won't happen again. Let the discussion go on.

Instead of giving in to this defeatist attitude I would rather do something about it. Even if it does not really change things, at least I would have the pride to say I tried to beat the system.
It seems to me that most of the visitors to this thread are either here to share their two-bits, fool around, kill time and get back to the more important things in their lives.
I have offered a list of suggestions and ideas. So far there has been little and negligible feedback to those suggestions.
When I started this topic, I earnestly believed that there would be likeminded people in the world who would be just as eager as I am to participate and do something to CHANGE the state of things. I assumed they would at least be willing to TRY.
I really gave you the chance to be ACTIVISTS.
While I am happy for the responses this topic has generated, I am really disappointed in the lack of eagerness you have shown to make "material" difference. Chatting/Discussing can be an end in itself. Thanks for proving that - at least.
I don't expect this will go any other way now. Everybody here seems content with chatting.
Good luck and thanks a bunch!

Every "shrewd" person says, "Oh I will be in here after something materialises" or gives a vague direction on "how to go ahead with" ond pour in lots of "theoritical/impractical ideas". First, decide which way you want to go. Second, Who is going to be the torch bearer. How many of us support this intention. What is the point in saying 'oh yes this is a unuseful argument and let me come in once something starts happening'
It is more like
"Hospitalla yarayathu iruntha, ille veetukku nalla aayi varattum, appuram paathukkaren solra maathiri irukku".
Well ithu shrewd solratha vida, responsibility bayamnu sollrathu romba fit.

Indhu, sorry to point this out. Before u expect others to accept ur suggestions, maybe u should try accepting others' views, especially when they don't coincide with urs. U only seemed too eager to hear those who agree with u. This usually takes u nowhere constructive.

Thanks again, WhyNot and Fliflo. And just for the record: How many suggestions did you put forward?
And secondly: While people may not have agreed on everything - there was a general consensus that Tamil film music had gone to the dogs in recent times.
Frankly, you don't have to agree with me or anyone. My suggestions were rather neutral and not biased. Others who disagree with my suggestions are free to offer their own. Write letters saying you think all is fine with the music so please continue. It's not like anyone is imposing anything on you.
And my suggestions were general and for everyone. I even asked if others had better ideas. So the thing that this is all about ME - is a very easy accusation to make WhyNot.
Curitosity: How many did you and WhyNot offer?

>>How many suggestions did you put forward?<<
Indhu, suggestions for what? To stop the use of mumbai voices in tfm?
Well i did suggest talking about MDs or putting the blame on any one person wasn't going to take us anywhere. That wasn't very well received by u, as u said u needed to start somewhere and could start by weeding out the offending parties.
I also suggested tat perhaps this is not such a bad thing afterall as many tamils pronounce differently in diff part of TN and so this trend wasn't gonna hurt no one. Again, instantly dismissed as a non-Tamilian sentiment.
I also suggested that there may need to be a technical analysis of whether it is accent or mispronounciation. Ditto.
And i observed u go thro the same route repeatedly and do the same with other participants and decided tat it wasn't really worth my time afterall.

Maybe it isn't worth your time WhyNot. You are free to think that.
I was not the only person here who believed that it was essentially the "imports" who were making Tamil seem like a foreign language to native Tamil ears.
The Tamil spoken in the hinterlands of TN angle was countered intelligently by a few others. Please go back a few postings.
I remember the your answer to my query: Are you a Tamil?
If you have formally studied Tamil - read/write fluently - I am sure you will have no problem seeing where I am coming from.
Please - If you feel that your views differ from mine then I can fully understand your position - and you are free to refrain from any collective action. No pressure, dude.

Personally, I'm not in for solutions like "shouldn't buy a CD if it contains 2 bad songs".I usually buy CDs even if it contains 2 good songs.By trying to worry about the language in music we are probably becoming language fanatics and forgetting that music is the bigger picture.
What is our primary concern in this thread:Is it language/culture(I don't give a damn about music) or language/culture in music?

If the concern was language/culture, then we will not have this thread in TFM. So, obviously it is the latter, Trend.

Indhu,
To put questions like that is the trend now-a-days (pun intended) than to answer/solve questions/problems because, obviously, it is easier to put questions than to answer them.

KS,
I am aware of the commitment here. The few regulars to this thread have left no doubt in my mind. My intentions were sincere. I was willing to demonstrate that I am willing to DO something. Discussions can go on ad nauseum.
Now I am wise: I am ready to withdraw from this discussion.
My very best to all of you.
