  I am happy that no one is talking garbage - yet at the same time having a vigorous partisan discussion. Way to go! As for my list. I like everyone and if had to listen to something before my execution or banishment to a desert island - I would rather not listen to anything at all before I leave. Because I can't place the music of one MD over that of another. There is something great about every MD. For instance the much maligned Veda was a master of orchestration, the introducer of Rock n'roll to Indian FM much before RD Burman.

  according to present releases
  
  1. Yuvan - he is giving continuous hits.and the songs are really good.
  2. ARR - great comback after boys
  3. HJ - kakka kakka has hoisted him up.
  4. VS - anbesivam title song is a master piece.villain and alai had good melodies.
  5. IR - i am not in tamilnadu. so i donno the latest releases. but whatever it may be, its sure to be better than deva's work.
  
  i have made the above list based on the songs released in the past few months.
  
  all time...
  1. ARR (for fusion) IR (for melody)
  2. VS (he's been there for long time with good tunes. i can date back and see karna's malare mounama)
  3. YSR (proclaimed his arrival in big way. lets see how he sustains over the years)
  4. HJ (whenever the album has peppy numbers - u can safely buy them. especially for gautam menon, this guy churns out good stuff. i dont feel he deserves to be no.4. too few albums to get there. but there is none left).
  
  no No.5 in my list.
  
  ARR and IR both deserve the 1st place. IR has been the monarch for the 70-90. ARR held the mantle for a decade. both of these guys have done stuff which have put them a class apart. now in a apt manner, both of them are going out in search of new avenues of music. ARR going out to conquer west and IR trying a master piece with thiruvasagam is a good sign.
  
  so lets not restrict them - expecting them to do a karagattakaaran and kadhalan again. hope both of them achieve what they are upto and hold India's flag high.
  
  its time these 2 big guns move out for good and allow the newcomers to take centerstage in the film music industry.
  
  imagine if IR and ARR come out with albums with only music and no language. u cant even think of what these genius ppl would deliver if they are given the time.
  
  IR is in that direction - i read a lot of news abt him visiting kanchi madam and other places to gather information on thiruvasagam's nuances. he wants that to be his work beyond time.
  
  lets see when ARR is going to step in this direction.

  5) Vidyasagar ( melodious)
