  1.You are right. "Kaathirunthen Kaathirunthen" is from Kairasi. MD is Govarthanam, the Brother of Sudarsanam of AVM fame.
  2. "ELiorai Thaazhthi" is by TMS and R.Balasaraswathy Devi. The film is THai Piranthaal Vazhi Pirakkum. The MD is KVM.

  to honour Viswanathan-Ramamurthy. A booklet was
  released on that occasion. It gives a list of
  movies by them. I find in it some movies which I
  have never heard of. Can you kindly give details
  about these movies and the songs in them? The

  1) Pona Machan Thirumbi Vanthan is by "Royal Films" produced by Comedy Actor Friend Ramasamy. Others are Angamuthu and TK Ramachandran. I remember seeing the movie over TV Malaysia in 1966. Its a comedy movie. The MD is KVM, but does not contain songs to be remembered. The film did not run well.
  
  
  2. Sorga Vaasal is a movie with story and dialogue by C.N.Annadurai. The main star is Nadippisai Pulavar KR RAmasamy. Music is by CR Subbaraman, assisted by MSV. This was one of the last movies of CRS. It has some of the best songs like:
  a) Kanni thamizh Saalai Oram
  b) Engum Inbam
  c) Mavodu Thazhuvum malarkodi
  d) Nilave nilave Aada Vaa.
  All the songs were by Udumalai Naarayanak Kavi, affectionatly called "Kaviraayar"
  
  
  3. "Vidya Pictures" Vairamaalai is starred by RS Manohar and Padmini. Music by Visvanathan-Ramamoorthy. It has good songs like:
  a) Koovamal Koovum Kogilam by Trichi Loganathan and ML Vasanthakumari
  b) Vanjamitho Vaanjai Itho by TL &MLV
  c) Unnai Ennum Pothiley by MLV.
  
  4) Krishna Pictures Kaaveri is another utter flop film. Starred by Sivaji ganesan Padmini, NSK and TA Maduram. 6 songs are by G Ramanathan and another 3 by Visvanathan Ramamoorthy and another 2 by CS jayaraman himself. This film has good songs like:
  a) Anbey En Aaruyirey by CS Jayaraman and Jikki. Its an old song lifted from Sangradass Swami's stage drama called Satiyavaan Savithri. Even SG Kittappa had sung this song. The tune has been copied in almost all Therukkoothu scenes. DO you remember Therukkoothu in Navarathiri? TMS and P.Suseela also sing in the same tune.
  b) Manjal Veyil Maalayiley by CSJ and P.Leela.
  c) En Sinthai Noyum Theeruma by Jikki- (a Hindi song from Anarkali)
  d) Ezhettu Nallaakathaan Eh Maama by NSK and TA Mathuram
  e) Kaalai Thookki by CSJayaraman
  
  5. "Vijaya Pictures" Neethipathi is starred by TKS Shanmugam, Gemini Ganesan, KR Ramasamy TS Palaiya and K.Malathi (Bathala Bairavi fame. Music is by Visvanathan Ramamoorthy. Story is by Solaimalai. There are at least three nice songs like:
  a) Uruvam Kandu En Manathu Uruguthey by TMS and KR Ramasamy.
  b)Seena Chakkarai Mittaai Pona varathu by KRR
  c) Thaayum Seiyum Pirinthathai Paar by CSJ. This song sia milestone in the Tamil Film Song history. This is the first song where a full orchestra was ever used. The credit goes to MSV. Have you hearde this most ecxellent song? you can here chorus in this song. MSV got hold of about 10 church-going Anglo Indian gilrs to sing humming. The song was such a hit that much later he attempted a modern touch in the film Puthiya Paravai. The song is "Engey Nimmathee" where 70 artistes were used. Next was "Oru Raaja raaniyidam" from Sivantha Mann. The he tried for Nam Nadu in the song "Ninaithathai Nadathiye Mudippavan Naan Naan Naan". Later was "Azhagiya Thamizh Magal Ival" in Rickshawkaran. So now we know the origin of orchestration by MSV.
  
  
  6. Porter Kandan is another flop movie. SV Subbiah is the main actor. The song Varunthaathey MAnamey by SC Krishnan is the only song to be mentioned here. Music is by VR.
  
  100 days and Silver Jubilee

  Many do claim that certain old films ran for hundred days. These are by and large false claims. In those days there were either successful movies or failure films. Films that had run for 50 days were considered hits commercially, as the producers would have received good returns. People seldom kept account of the number of days films ran. The 100 days concept and the siver jubilee (175 days run) were the products of the keen competition created by MGR and Sivaji Ganesan from 1958. MGR started off with Thaaikku Pin Thaaram, mainly under Chinnappa Devar's banner while Sivaji Ganesan started off with Baaga Pirivinai/Padikkatha Methai, mainly by Bhimsingh direced movies.
