Kannadasan,Vaali and VM had always been the heroes of any discussion thats related to lyrics. Very often lyrics of other kavignars are assumed/mistaken to be written by these 3. This thread is an effort to come out with songs that were written by kavignars other than these 3

Manisekaran,Ramki: It’s great. I heard that MBS was capable of identifying people. When MSV failed in his ‘acting chance’ attempts, MBS persuaded him to move towards the right direction “ music”. Veenai S. Balachandar was another gem. KJY was introduced by him. "NEum pommai nAnum pommai ninachhu partha Ellam pommai". (film: pommai). Who is the lyricist?

A very interesting thread. Most of the lyricists have been covered. Some songs of interest are (sorry if they have been discussed earlier)
(a) Manapparai Maadu katti (I think by Maruthakasi) - An awesome song essaying an agararian lifestyle
(b) Raja Raja Cholan naan (Mu.Metha in rettai vaal kuruvi) wonderfylly tuned by IR and rendered by KJY with his golden touch
(c) Thhongathe thambi thoongathe, Vaadikkai maranthathum eano (from kalyana parisu) by PKS. When Gemini tries to make some romantic advances toward Sarojadevi the feminine rendition would be
"Porumai ezhanthidalamo
Perum Puratchiyil irangidalamo
.....
Varambu meerudhal murayio"
where the disciplinary elements have been stressed very poetically. Especially the songs in kalyana parisu portray the other(romantic) side of PKS who was more known for his philosophical and idealogical lyrics.
(d) kanavugale ayiram kanavugale by Na.kamarasan
(e) Salangai ittaal oru maadhu by TR in Maithili ennai kaathali, especially the lines
"thadagathil meen rendu kaamathil thadumaari
thaamarai poo meethu vizhunthathuvo
athai kanda vegathil Bramanum magathil
padaithitta baagam thaan un kangalo
..
kaatril asainthu varum nandavanathu kili
kaalgal mulaithathu endru nadai pottal"
TR known for his analogies (uvamaigal) really has done a good job in this song.
(f) there was a lyricist by name Ka.Mu.Sherif. People like Manishegaran could list his intersting contributions.

Yes, I guess almost our friends have already covered all poets. But still there is lot more to be discussed. I’m glad that you have mentioned about PKS. I have a feeling that PKS have not yet been analyzed well by our DFrs. Before I reach him I should talk about others.
Thanx, you mentioned about TR (I didn’t think about him). One beautiful song from “oru thalai ragam” I like each and every ‘bit’ of this song:

Thanks Jay and I also share your sentiments about inadequate analysis about PKS. But for his untimely demise, he also would have been a great lyricist.
The following songs especially are worth their weight in gold.
(a)Chinna payale, chinna payale
(b) Thirudathe pappa especially the lines

Athai sattam pottu thadukkura kootam thaduthukunde irukkuthu
Thirudanai paarthu thirunthaavitaal thiruttai olikka mudiyathu
What a prophetic verse!!! Hold good even for modern governance
There was another lyriccist by name Mayavanathan. The one song I remeber is from padithaal mattum pothuma
"Thannilavu then iraikka thaalai maram neer thelika... Really a good song describing the naanams of a girl about to be married..

Radhai, You are right. I wonder why Pulamaippithan is not being utilized much. He is very good lyricist indeed. I can share something.
1. Nee oru kathal sangeetham - Nayagan. My close friends love this song like anything, So me too.
2. Nan sirithal deepavali - Nayagan.
3. Nanjai punjai undu - Unnal mudium thambi. "Katrukku pattu solli yaru thanthathu thanaka pattu onnu padikkuthu" Pookal marathin sirippu :-)
