I like all the songs from the movie movie Thevarin "Theivam".
1. maruthamalai mamaniye murgaiyaa -- madurai somu
2. nadaraiyum 100 malai naan ariveen swami malai -- pithukuli murugadas
3. varuvaandi tharuvaandi malaiyaandi -- LRE???
4. thiruchendurin kadalorathil senthil -- TMS, Sirgali S Govindarajan
5. kundrathile kumaranukku kondaatam -- Bangalore Ramaniammal
6. thiruchendruil poor purinthu sinamyellam -- Sulamangalam sagotharigal.
Kunnakudi has done the excellent work in this movie.
Madurai somu's voice is too good. After the song, "thevar vanagum marudamai muruga" -- Thevar maimaranthu thaan potiruntha thanga chainai madurai somukku anivithathaaga solvaargal?
Pithukuli murugadas has sung lots of bajans. I think this is the only song in TFM.
Bangalore ramaniammal's voice is exactly matching with rhytm of the song. She is famous for bakthi song, I think this is only number in TFM.
Sulamangal sagotharigal padiya TFM paadalgal list irukkiratha?

Quiz:
In the movie 'kAdhalikka nEramillai', you may
remember Muthuraman coming in disguise as a rich
old man and Nagesh pestering M to finance his
movie. In one scene Nagesh brings one Kittappa
bagavathar and his assistant to tell Muthuraman
that they were the music directors for his movie
and Muthuraman chases them out. Can anyone guess
who acted as Kittappa bagavathar and who acted
as his assistant?
shyam:
Bangalore Ramaniammal sang a song in the movie,
'varuvAn vadivElan'.

sk,
Many years back, while I was watching the movie, I saw their name in the list of actors when the title was going on. I watched the whole movie very closely to see when they are appearing. I thought they are in the group singing 'viswanathan velai vendum..'. But manged to identify them as Kittappa
bagavathar and his assistant. That mivie is one of my all-time favourites.
Thanks

The movie, thai piRandhAl vazhi piRakkum was shown on
SUN TV two days ago. The movie was nothing great. SSR and Raja
Sulochana come as brother and sister.. VKR implicates SSR in a
crime and packs him off to jail.. SSR & RS go through a lot of
difficulties.. VKR's son, Prem Nazir marries RS.. and so on.
Though the movie is ordinary, KVM has done a good job as MD.
Some nice songs..
1. thai piRandhAl vazhi piRakkum thangamE thangam
2. sollattumA sollattumA, ragasiyaththai sollattumA
3. eLiyOrai thAzhththi valiyOrai vAzhththum
4. amudhum thEnum edhaRku
5. AsaiyE alai pOlE, nAmellAm adhan mElE
6. maNNukku maram bAramA, maraththukku kiLai bAramA
7. ninaichchadhu oNNu nadandhadhu oNNu
adhanAlE muzhikkudhu ammA poNNu
The songs have been penned by Udumalai NK, Maruthakasi, Kannadhasan
and ku.sA. Krishnamurthy. The fourth kavinjar ku.sA.ki appears to
have been an interesting person, though most songs he wrote for TFM
were not so popular. In thai piRandhAl, the song eLiyOrai thAzhththi
was written by this man, ku.sA.ki. There is a story that
when 'raththak kaNNeer' was made, the director tried Karunanidhi,
Kannadhasan, Udumalai Narayana Kavi and Maruthakasi for the
crucial song of the movie and none of them could give the song
to the satisfaction of the director. This man, ku.sA.ki offered
that he will produce THE song for the situation.. but demanded
Rs. 5000 (a large sum for middle 1950s). The director said ok.
And ku.sA.ki wrote kutram purindhavan vAzhkkaiyil nimmadhi. The song
was a roaring success. (It had a fantastic effect on the movie going
audience of the 50's!) Later it was found out that ku.sA.ki had
originally written the song years earlier for one of his dramas, for
a similar situation! This ku.sA.ki also wrote songs such as nilavOdu
vAnmukil viLaiyAduthE (rAja rAjan) and kAdhal kanirasamE (PUC fame).

Saw a few movies in the 75-85 time frame this week. Meenava Nanban, Gayatri, Udhaya Geetham.
Meenava Nanban has some amazing songs: Thangatthil Mugamedutthu, Pongum Kadalosai, Neram Powrnami Neram. Neram Powrnami Neram is a great number by SPB. There are three other songs, Pattatthu Rajavum Pattala Sippayum, Kannazhagu Singarikku, Nerukku Nerai Varattum. I think all songs are by Vali.
Gayatri has a loud number which was popular when the movie was released. Vazhve Mayama Verum Kadhaiya etc. There is another nice number in Kalaip Paniyil Aadum Nilavu. Ilaiyaraja has done a very competent job.
Udhaya geetham of course has IR in his prime. This movie came out in my college days and the songs were a big hit with us. Thene Then Pandi Meene was probably the best. Mane Thene Kattippidi was one of the best folksy numbers of that time. Padu Nilave, Sangeetha Megam are two underrated numbers. I am a big fan of Sangeetha Megam. SPB, SJ and IR in their prime! Ennodu Paatu Padungal and Idhaya Geetham Paduven are the other numbers in the movie.

Ramki, Raja: That song wasnt present in the cassette I saw. There was in fact no song picturised on Raja Sulochana. But there is a song in which the villain gang - Raja Sulochana, Asokan, Rajini and a young girl get drunk and the young girl sings an unremarkable song - which, unfortunately, I dont remember!
All that peedigai, and no song in the end!

Ramji, Bhoori:
Kaalai Paniyil was a refreshing great song, still listen to it often. Vaazhve Mayama - had different interludes (between SPS's shrieking voice -she has always sounded funny IMO) -even Vaan Poley from SSangamam, IR gave her songs which he should have used Sujatha. Coming back to UnnaiThaan Azhaikiren - IR used to innovate a lot- will this song fit any western composition ?
SJ used to moan and groan in some of the songs, as if she were constipated ..

raja 'vazhvey maayama' is by BSSasirekha(SHailaja wasnt there in TFM when gayathri was released). IMO, vazhvey maayama is a tough song and BSS did a great job. 'thirai pottu nee maraithaal enne' goes to very high pitch and she sings it effortlessly.(Sridevi acted very well in this film-Rajasulochana was a wrong choice)
Bhoori were go you get all these old movies??In detroit the indian stores doesnt keep anything released before 1997.
