A.R.Rahman was earlier approached for the music of the film, but when he refused, Verma personally headed down south to woo the southern legend.

"IRs hasnt evolved with time. His BGMs still sound the same right from the beginning."
Guess Me,
-looks like you have a single point anti-IR agenda in life, making statements in a number of threads (like saying IR's malayalam lack native flavor etc.) without bothering to substantiate in musical terms
-Unfortunately it only serves to show case your ignorance about music in general
Have you compared the BGM of annakkiLi with kAdhalukku mariyAdhai (or Guru-Malayalam or at least with nooRAvadhu nAL) before making such sweeping statements?
You're prescribed to visit the permanent thread on BGM to get some healing:-)

It says RGV already met with IR. But the result is not yet known.
Does any one know the updates? Did IR sign the film?

"Kamal Hassan's "Alavandhan". Even while proclaiming that he is a big fan of IR, Kamal hired Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy for this project. This should be only bcoz the subject is too modern and sci-fi for IR to handle."
hmm..and the songs were modeled after 'Vikram' that was done by IR twenty years back. Vikram itself was a copy of 'A billion dollar threat' or some such junk english movie. This should show that IR did set a trend for a 'modern and sci-fi' 20years back. The 'Vikram' song itself has Rap style singing and electronica sounds. Ofcouse, 'Guess Me' you are too young to have watched this movie :-) so you are excused and no offence taken :-)

According to the third chapter of Vaasth Saasthr there shud not be any trees in front of the door.
So ARR is rejected and IR came into picture.

"looks like you have a single point anti-IR agenda in life, making statements in a number of threads (like saying IR's malayalam lack native flavor etc.) without bothering to substantiate in musical terms "
I am not anti-IR. I usually reply only when people try to crown him as the God of tfm, while totally ignoring the contribution from others.
Yes I repeat, IR's recent malayalam songs lack native flavour. Take the song "Marakkudayal" from Manasinakkare. It has his usual tamil tunes with the beats (thanthane thane..... style). Excluding the lyrics, it can in no way be called a malayalam song. But I DO like that song.
Regarding BGMs, Kalapani and Guru are two of IR's best works in malayalam. But both of them are very similiar to each other especiall in terms of the instrument. This is the main problem of IR; using the same instruments again and again with no change of whatsoever.
"Ofcouse, 'Guess Me' you are too young to have watched this movie :-) so you are excused and no offence taken :-)"
No Mr.K I had the ill fate of seeing this dumb movie. Kamal made it only to exploit Dimple Kapadia to the extreme. And IR's music didnt have much contribution in this one.
"The 'Vikram' song itself has Rap style singing and electronica sounds"
Using rap style singing and electronica sounds DOESN'T make a song modern. When not used properly it will have the opposite effect of what it was meant to be. If you want to listen to some of the best Indian songs in this genre, listen to some by ARR.

'This is the main problem of IR; using the same instruments again and again with no change of whatsoever.'
...yet another blanket statement of arrogance and musical ignorance from GuessMe.
Such statements against celebrities are usually products of hate/jealousy against him/her (or those who choose him their favourite), never taking into consideration his/her qualities / capabilities / talents / works etc.
(This is also evident from the statement :"I usually reply only when people try to crown him as the God of tfm")...
Telling someone's works lacking something and someone's `RECENT' works lacking something are two different things, how can one say he's `repeat'ing the old statement? GuessMe is flawed not just in music, in English as well...
...well, when one is so much mentally warped against an individual and can't tolerate his popularity , these things are bound to happen. Mind devoid of logic cannot reason properly, can neither reach right conclusions...
`tamil tune' and `malayalam tune'...very interesting concept:-)

". If you want to listen to some of the best Indian songs in this genre, listen to some by ARR"
Interesting indeed.
While there is a marked difference between 'Tamil tune' and 'Malayaalam tune', what ARR composes is classified as 'Indian' tune. Hmmmmm

so all one has to do make a song modern is, use electronic instruments and use digital recording techniques..very nice. What about the feeling of modernness one gets listening to the innumerable fusion songs IR has composed?
So, RGV has dared to go back to IR. I doubt if IR will accept his movie. IR did not work with RGV as RGV opted for Keeravani in Kshana Kshanam (which came after Shiva). Though it has not been publicized, it seems RGV tried for IR's music for some of his films in Telugu.

Synth came only may be 2 decades back. All immemorable symphonies are with natural instruments. I don't think IR need to change instruments for making music look different. IR's idea about synth is it approximately frequencies whereby compromizing some of the vital frequencies which express emotions. Even if you see recent Lord of Rings, they use natural instruments, but yet was really good.

IR has churnd out many kuppais...but IR is doing few movies and we could see glimses of his genus in some of them but you cannot completely atribute the few numbers of movie to IR's selectiveness..probably its the otherway round...today Directors are quite selective and intelligent....they don't flock around IR just like that....IR is used as a skilled labour for the right job now...see RGV's new movie with IR only for BGM...Good signs...but if you look at it from the other angle...then its like kezhattu singamm among songs bulls all round.
No fear ...but only rspect if any.

ARR-kku-nnu thani style irukkaa...??? yaarume panna mudiyaadhadhu..?? innaikku 10 per ARR-a maadhiri music panna mudiyum.. innum 10 varushathula... 100 peru..
kaalathin Ottathil ARR kaanaamappoyiduvaaru.. only some of his songs can withstand time..
But majority of IR's music and BGMs would be here for centuries and more.. avarukku-nnu thani style irukku.. which comes out of inborn genuinity.. inspiration.. genuine compositions of musical notes and not playing around with HI-FI stuff..
Just feel proud.. that you are living during the times of IR.
you were not there during Mozart's or Beethovan's... ;-)
