  I remember one children's song by PS from 'manika thottil'

  At the end of the song, she will tell what the things she wants to give for each children that particular portion of the lyric and the tune is too good. I don't remember those lines.

  I recently purchased a CD of PB Srinvas's duets. Most of the songs sung by PBS with PS are unforgettable. I have been listening to Naan Unnai Serndha Selvam from Kalaikoil, over and over again. What a song. Anyone knows if this song was a hit during those days?

  I got a copy of the movie 'Malai itta mangai' which I was watching today.When I
  was listening to the immortal music of Visvanathan-Ramamurthy
  with lyrics by Kannadasan,it was a treat to the sore ears after hearing most of non-Raja trash which passes for film songs today.
  I have most of the songs of Chandi rani and Laila majnu scored by C.R.Subbaraman and M.S.V.The songs are sung by Bhanumathi and Ghantasala.
  Does anyone have songs from an old movie called'Vipranarayana'.It is a mythological film dubbed from telugu.The songs by A.M.Raja and Bhanumathy are out of this world.

  Yesterday another episode of Endrum Cinema
  (a serial made in connection with AVM's Golden Jubilee)
  was shown on Prime TV 12 (Sing). There was a short
  interview with Chemmangudi. I was wondering what
  this man (who has little to do with TF) had to
  say about AVM. He mentioned that he was originally
  called-in by AVM to do the role of the vEdhiyar
  in the movie, Nandhanaar. It seems Chemmangudi
  even sang the song, aadum chidhambaramO ...
  for the movie and it was recorded. Though he was
  keen to act in the movie, he had to withdraw because
  his father objected his entering TF. Chemmangudi
  went on to sing this song (set in bEhaag raagam)
  quite nicely.

  raja m, Kalaikoyil also has one of my all time favorite songs,"Kalaiyae En Vazhkaiyin Thisai Maatrinai". I heard my aunt say that the movie totally bombed at the time of release, but the songs were hits.

  The song Kalaiye En vaazhkayin thisai maatrinaai is from Meenda Sorgam where the MD is Chalapathi Rao. Kalaikkoyil was jointly produced by MSV and Vikram with Sreedar as the Director. Music was by MSV and TKR. Dr Balamurali's debut into Tamil film songs started with "Thanga Ratham Vanthathu Veethiyiley" in this film.Unfortunately the film did not fare well.

  Thanga Ratham is in Abhogi and Kalaiye is in Bageshri. They are different. The other excellent Abhogis are "Yennai Andri Yaar Varuvar" T L Maharajan (I guess) and "Enraikku Yen indha" from vaidhehi kaathirundal. For songs in Bageshri check the Raga of song thread.

  Both films were directed by Sreedar.

  Naan Anri Yaar Varuvar was originally composed by Kannadasan fort the film Mahadevi. But MGR rejected it saying that it was slow moving. MGR asked for a faster substitute, and Kannadasan gave the Kan Moodum Velayilum Kalai Enna Kalaiye by AM Raja and P. Suseela. But Kannadasan had a greter liking for Naan Anri Yaar Varuvar. He saw that there were too many dominating personalities in the cine field, which did not allow him to exhibit his talents to the fullest. This became a motivating factor in forcing Kannadasan to come out with his own film in 1958. And that was Malayitta Mangai with 17 sooper songs. Kannadasan reproduced Naan anri Yaar Varuvar in Maalayitta Mangai. This scene and the scene for "Kan Moodum Velayilum" are identical. In Mahadevi the heroine sleeps in the garden, and the hero "thadavu" her face. As she wakes up the hero starts the song. In Maalayitta mangai the heroine waits in the garden. The hero quietly comes and closes her eyes with his hands. The heroine has a shoch, and the hero sings" Naan Anri Yaar Varuvar, Ila nangai Unai Veru Yaar Thoduvaar?"
