Did you guys know that they slashed the price for Triton?? It now sells for $1999..$400 less. There's a new version of Triton coming out - Triton Studio. Better specs and faster interface.
UV: Nothing solid as yet..working on a few tracks. lets see.

I recently heard the song 'Oliyeley' from the movie 'Azhagi' by IR ,the chord structure of this song sounded same as his other song 'Etho Mogam' .
from the movie 'Kozhi Koovudhoo'
I may also be completely wrong, can anyone explain the chord pattern of these two songs.
thanks in advance

Sam:
Theres many with modulation. One classic song that comes to mind is Raja Kaiya Vecha. The interlude in the song takes off to a different scale. When it comes to Raja..it is back to orig scale.
The 4th and Sus4th are the same chords. the "sustain" is the feel you get when you hear the 4th note "relieving" you when it resolves to the third. For example A4th to A major. Like giving you tension and releasing you there.
>> And does this kinda start make the chord to be played there as Asus4?
In that measure yes, it makes it A Sus4th.
I actually have edhedho yennam sequenced. Please check out http://kishmu.tripod.com. If you have a MIDI viewer (like Cakewalk), you can see the notes/chords played.
UV:
I don't know if these songs have similar chord progression. For Azhagis song the prog goes like
Oliyiley | Bbm |.F7 Bbm | repeat
Idhu nesama | Bbm | Adim7 |
Kanavile | Bbm | Bbm | C# | F | Bbm |
please check that with yedho mogam. I dont think they are similar.

Thanks Kishmu. Just to mention, one of my fave song with sustained chords in it is November Rain by GNR. U cud feel that being played (Csus4 and C, the way u mentioned causing tension and relief) at the end of evry line for the chorus singers). And thanks for "edhedho yennam". One more thing for other people like me, follow the links given in this page
http://www.harmony.org.uk/example/index.htm there they explain how they harmonise a melody.
Regards,
Sam.

There is a very good discussion forum for recording techniques and related music queries at :

will anyone like to comment on the main melody given in the link given by sam? the accidental towards the end of the third bar already has taken in to account the "required harmonizing". how will it change if it was a natural D instead of a D#? (i believe it is the bane wm tradition :-) )
- From: Krishnamurthy (@ 198.102.112.201)
on: Thu Jan 24 19:29:48 EST 2002
hihi - since there is a cadence, if there were a D instead of D#, you would harmonize it within a V7 or E7 chord. But the melody would come back to a C# and will not go to E as written. This will make the final chord A and not E. This then would make it a perfect cadence in A major.
If you read the music from beginning to this place then it would be complete. The perfect cadence to the subdominant (Chord B to E) makes it "incomplete" waiting for you to hear another phrase.

aRpudham thalaivA. very clear description/explanation. but my question still hangs out there. you wrote :the melody would come back to a C#. again in my opinion, this has already taken in to account the (foreseen) harmony. anyways, ... thanks for your expln.

Hi guys, I am Basheer. I am a physician, live in indianapolis, quite a bit of interest in music and lately, composing my own music. I have no formal training in music. You guys seem to be discussing in professional terms and i have hesitated much for a long time in joining your discussion due to fear of rejection. some of your discussions were pretty intimidation. Ill tell you guys, you guys have caused friction in my marraige. I have spent over 6000$ in the last 2 months on equipments.( triton pro X, sonal XL, spd 20, new computer etc.)I have worked with them in the last month and I have gained some confidence. Listening to Srikant/ Sams pops and some of the others composition has given me a boost and I would like to give it a try. I was very impressed/ proud. Like I said i have no formal training in music. I have played the keyboard, guitar during my college years.( playing by ear) and do a pretty decent job. I have many tunes in my head, never had the opportunity to express/ exploit. I have a lot of basic questions, craving for answers. I have no help here. first of all, I think triton is great, only its going to take atleast 3 years for me learn all the features in it. I need some assistance there. What is the best way to learn the triton besides reading the workbook that comes with it. I have connected my computer/ sonar/mic/etc and have recorded a few tracks successfully. Q: why do I need MIDI when digital audio recording is more clearer and richer?. Q: should I even learn to use the sequencer in triton given more sophisticated features in sonar. What is the difference between using effects from triton VS using effects that come with sonar. what audio card should i use to get professional quality recording/ sound. What is the difference between Srikanth/ sams pops recording and ARR / IR / DEVAs recording. I was very impressed with the melodies/ interludes in their composition, the quality of sound itself sounds inferior( sorry ) to the professionals recording, is it my soundcard/ player or is it something different. Finally, how much time do I have to spend with my keyboard every day. I have lost 15 pounds in the last month, not able to concentrate in my job. I am going nuts. Help me.

Wow Dude take it easy now.
Nice to see a fellow musican with such passion.
Well as far as working with Tritons the gurus here are Srikanth and Jay they have been using it for long time. They can answer most of your questions.
You can create your own mp3 page and post ur music there its free .
As far as recording you can use any of them cakewalk, cubase or pro tools its all depend on how you mix them.
Once again Srikanth,Jay and others can help you in this regard.
Jay mixes directly on his triton if i am right.
Midi is simple to transport and easy to store into keyboards, samplers etc.

Q: why do I need MIDI when digital audio recording is more clearer and richer?.
MIDI is not audio. MIDI is a sequence of instructions for audio producing devices - the sound card's wave table or the keyboard. MIDI can even provide instructions to your CD player telling it when to start/stop a song.
Q: should I even learn to use the sequencer in triton given more sophisticated features in sonar.
Depends if you want a better UI. I prefer the computer.
What is the difference between using effects from triton VS using effects that come with sonar.
Both process digital audio. Triton in my opinion has a superior sound processor, and also you can mix down in so many ways.
what audio card should i use to get professional quality recording/ sound.
Depends on your budget. Srikanth can answer this better.

I dont get it. Can you rephrase?

First of all Basheer, welcome to the synth world and welcome to this group!
Triton is a no doubt an awesome intrument. Good choice.
I too was in a state of trance for the first few weeks I had the synth.
Probably because it was my first real synth..the sounds just blew me away. I dont
think i'll ever get that feeling again..being used to the Triton, now I know what to expect.
Q: why do I need MIDI when digital audio recording is more clearer and richer?
They both are entirely different. In MIDI you only record the events in what you
played..you dont record the audio signal. When any MIDI compliant device
receives those events, it will respond to it. So if you record in MIDI
you will have to have your Triton(or any other synth) connected to your
MIDI port to play back the recording. So if you have 10 synths in your studio,
you can route each track in Sonar to whichever synth you want. Thus
there is a lot of flexibility in editing/recording. But with audio recording,
you're stuck with what you have recorded. Generally, everything is
sequenced in MIDI and only the final recording is done in audio.
Q: should I even learn to use the sequencer in triton given more sophisticated features in sonar?
I think to get started it is better to do eveyrthing in Triton and just use
Sonar to do the final recording(audio). Later when you're more comfortable with
everything you can move more into Sonar.
What is the difference between using effects from triton VS using effects that come with sonar.
Again, get a good command of all the effects in Triton..They are top notch
in quality. Dont know much about effects in sonar. May be use sonar for
adding affects to vocals if you plan to record them.
what audio card should i use to get professional quality recording/ sound?
Delta 66 or Delta 1010 cards are popular..I haven used any though.
What do you have now? I got a Korg D12..does the job. No MIDI though.
What is the difference between Srikanth/ sams pops recording and ARR / IR / DEVAs recording.
Recording is too vast a field...check out

Soundcard matters a lot in the final sound quality. But gettng a good mix is an art in itself.
how much time do I have to spend with my keyboard every day
...Not so much that you lose 15lb!!! hehe...thats funny man!

Hi All !
Like Basheer, I was reluctant to join in thi discussion going by the amount of technicality expressed here....I've had tunes running around in my head since I was 14 years old...and have been trying out amateur recording techniques since then...using pots, pans and a Casio keyboard....!!!
Now I have a CAsio CTK-371, Creative MP3 Blaster Keyboard that goes with Creative Soundblaster Live Card...and bundled up software that provides a lot of Cool Voice Effects. \
I use Cool Edit 2000 and will be buying the 4-track Mixer plug-in soon to start actual mixing.
Some of my compositions, I've uploaded :
http://www.mp3.com/cosmicians
Would like your feedback and inputs.
BTW I write songs and would love to collaborate on a kind of Hinglish, Tamlish or even English pop album.
Or better still, why dont all the composers here get together and work on a collaborative project :
Each providing an input when we all agree on a Baisc melody and rhythm.
