The thread on IR's new albumms wanders and meanders so much it is now toally unrecognisable from the purpose it was intende for.I think we need a new thread in which you can write anything-bouquets,brickbats,tidbits,anecdotes.

  WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH TO TELL ABOUT ILAY RAAJA .
  HE PUT LOT OF IMPACT ON MY LIFE , CHARACTER, STYLE OF THINKING. I FOUND LOT OF SPIRITUAL IN HIS SONGS. MUSIC HAS NO LANGUAGE IT WORKS WELL WITH RAAJA. MUSICAL VALUE HAS GOT ITS PEAK TIME WITH RAAJA.

  after going thru what all have been ritten about raaja -one thing which struck me was this:
  if you look at the following criteria in a music composer-
  deep knowledge of both east and western systems of music,ability to compose,acceptance by purists in the systems of music,i can think of only three musicians in our entire musical history-naushad, L.subramanyam and IR.
  while naushad had a sucessful career as a film composer and was also invited to conduct?RPO,he never tried anything on the lines of HTNI and NBW.and his film music was also more reflective of hindusthani school of music.
  L.S-had a sucessssful carrer as violinist and has composed fusion and wcm works he never impressed me as a composer.
  attempts at fusion where you play drums and mridhangam together or playing alai payudhe to the back ground of drums may sound exotic-but is irt real fusion?I am not convinced.
  I think this is where IR scores.He has the unique oppurtunity of standing at musical crossroads-and i think he fully utilised his knowledge in the musical systems.he himself has said that his popularity in film music was one reason why these works found better acceptance.
  you will find semmangudi singing praises about raaja,balamurlikrishna will say he is the composer of ths century,you will find pushpavanam kuppusamy appreciating his folk tunes-and you will hear his music blaring from village festiaval cone speakers-while royal philharmonic conductor appreciates his music and a hungarian composer writes a poem appreciating his music.That is the uniqueness of his music and his polarity.
  these are the only three musicians who come to my mind when i think about his complteness as a musician.you are welcome to add names if you want.
