IR & Rajini have been doing umpteen social intiatives in Thiruvanaamalai. Rajini in fact layed roads around the holy hill. When Jayalalitha took over as CM, she chucked out IR from the 'THIRUVANNAMALAI THIRUPANI COMMITTEE'. But IR finished the RAJAGOPURAM work with his money and all was well when PAINTING issue came up. IR had said that 'multi colours' should not be used as this will divert the attention of devotees, and thus 'single' colour has to be used. The 'HINDU ARANILAI' thurai (Govt entity) now has remarked that PANCHAVARNAM (Five colours) have to be used, and IR's opinion should not be considered since he is not the committee member anymore. (Well, that was atrocious. Why was this ARANILAY THURAI silent when IR/Rajini spend their money?)...If u r a spiritual enthusiast, u can register your views here. IR is really pained and has written a open letter to the THIRUPANI commitee.

Dear venkatesh...the source is "Nakeeran" tamil magazine. I know it is a bad source, but just felt like sharing it anyway.

Vel,
There was a mention about 'aaLum katchi's arajagam' in T.malai deepam function in last week Kungumam too, where they have mentioned about IR & Rajini's contributions to the temple.

venkatesh,
would have to get that copy that u have mentioned. Isn't it sad & miserable that politics should seep into spirituality too?

vel,
I too have voiced my opinion in various forums regarding the pathetic "Eastman Color' painting of Gopurams by the TN Govt. officials.
AppeRpatta Raajavukke indha gati endrAl, en maathiri sAmAnya aatkaL emmAthiram?
I don't know why the Hindu ARanilayathuRai doesn't have renounded Sthapatis on their board? At least they should consult these experts before forcing their limited aesthetic sense upon all our ancient treasures! Don't they know that painting on stone structures chokes them out, with absolute no vent for breathing? Most natural materials (i.e. the ones that last forever) need to be able to breathe and have air circulating around them.
Aesthetically too, have they ever thought as to why our beautiful temple idols are carved out of black stones or made of bronze? Why did the original sculptor not resort to painting them in all possible colors? Imagine the statues along the Marina Beach transformed from being black colored marvels to multicolored eyesores!!!
This kind of aesthetic rape has been happening for decades now, and all our centuries-old temples have been regular targets! Every single pillar, every sculpure, every stone in any prominant temple all over Tamil Nadu gets painted whenever they get funds from a devotee to do some 'renovation' or whenever it's time for a 'KumbAbhishekam'! Thus a Mahalakshmi bas-relief in stone has its lotus painted in all possible shades of pink and red, with the Goddess herself getting a make-over with trimmed eye-brows, painted nails, rouge-applied cheeks, sporting the trendiest saree design! The painter sure has a field day, unleashing his 'creativity' on these poor, unsuspecting ancient treasures.
If they want to see well-maintained temples (and gopurams in particular), they should make a visit to Hampi (Vijayanagar Empire) in Karnataka or even our own Brihadeeswarar Temple in Tanjavur (Thankfully both are under the management and maintenance of the Archealogical Survey of India)!
Some of them can take a look at how Kerala government is maintaining its old monuments, palaces and temples?
Hope people like Ganapathi Sthapati who are respected names in the circle and who are close to politicians take the initiative and have the officials restore our treasures (and prevent any future attempts of this nature)

vch, u can't explain each and every act that she does, can you? Anyway, maybe the THIRUPANI COMMITTEE members (atleast some), thought they cud find someone better than IR..But the issue is, shud politics taint the genuine efforts of a god loving human being? I mean, isn't it really pathetic? And what IR has said about using a single colour instead of five-colours (panchavarnam) makes sense to me...
