Chinna mamiye un chinna magalenge was a very popular Ceylone song in the late 70s and early 80s. Illayaraja came withup a wonderufl ceylone tune song. Surangani Surangani.. lyrics by Panju Arunachalam. You can listen here.

Compare this song with ARR's signore signore
But the difference in class was so obvious that IR's song was very well appreciated by Ceylone fans who i generally consider better music taste than us. Surangani tune was so catchy. Why don't u listen find out yourself?

  Come on this guy "dude" is incredible!! When did ARR become a ceylone music specialist without imitating the Ceylon tune. Ceylon Radio used to play this illayaraja version atleast 5 or 6 times everyday for 3 or 4 years nonstop. Do you think ARR's senyore tune is enjoying that kind of popularity? Come on get real dude.   Hitchcock transformed Robert Bloth's novel Psycho
  into a cult-classic starring Anthony perkins and Janet Leigh in 1960. The movie was remade in 1998 starring Vince Vaughn and Anna Heche. Well 1998 was dumped into trash can.
  
  Frederic Forsyth's novel "Day of The Jackal" was made into a movie in 1973. It got rave reviews
  It was remade with slight modifications as "Jackal" in 1997. It was also rejected by fans.
  
  You see the similiarities. Signore tune resembles this Surangani. Like Psycho 1998, Jackal 1997 It also should go to trash can

  It was indeed by IR. That was in the movie 'avar enakke sondham' when came in late 70's. Jaishankar was the hero in that movie. I don't think that was copied. In fact a lot of variations of the same song with different lyrics came up after that song

  Let me make an objective comparison,
  IR's song was based on raaga 'meenalOchini' whereas ARR's is influenced by 'priyamvathavahini'. Both are great raagas with the only difference being Pa2. ARR has used misrachApu but IR has used kaNdakaNdachApu. If the above post is not intelligible, please Email Uththaman at bore@pittsoftheworld.com

  I feel ir has changed raga to "sonadhavinodhani"
  during the lines "mAlu mAlu surgaganika mAl"
  I say this because, china RE and periya RE are interchanged with a medium RE quite often.
  did you note that? so can we call it a Ragamaliga,

  Sambamoorthy... Do you really need know what raaga it is based upon.. to enjoy it? All songs are based on some raaga or the other. Just because it is based on some "priyamvathavahini" Raaga it is a good song? Surangani was a cult-hit. It is still addictive.

  this song wasnt even by IR it was by this guy i think his name was madan but not sure about his name but i am hundred percent sure it was by this guy im talking about because he was on Bajaj Sabthaswarangal on sun ty about a yr and half ago, He even sang the sang and played some instruments. This guy im talking of then stopped film music and went on organising concerts world wide and recently returned.
