so the psycological assumption behind this topic is that people associate brand value to a particular product (which is normal and good too! ). But then they also go ahead and have pre conceived notions abt product falling outside their preferences
1) They will never like products outside the category
2) They will not accept that some times their fav. brand might be below par.
This is sad!
Although only 25% of what an average man listens to would actually be of good quality and the rest 755 should be becaus e of his brand preference.
The 25% can be increased if atleast the person listens to brands falling outside his category, atleast after he hears a good opinion of it from dependable sources. This sounds more or less optimal!

Yeah, I totally agree [Bharath] and that concept pretty much associates with products of all kinds. To be frank, I admit myself that I might see a pretty crappy looking GAP skirt but, heh, what the heck, its GAP man?!! (i don't know if name brands like GAP, Fubu are big in India?)
I'm sure, all of you have placed yourself in a similar dilemma, at least once, whether it be clothes or in this case, music.
Sometimes, I think ppl like G Maruthi will never learn....The best somtimes is to simply ignore.
But, I just couldn't resist this post :)
Hasta luego, amigos. La musica de ARR Y IR es muy excelllente !!

WEll you two,
Tell me the ultimate result...
Why are you squirming in your seat while typing this...
I am definetly sure that ARR will sell most.
For example try this one out...
Catch a friend from some remote country through chat... Send him one ARR and one IR song...
Ask him which is better... He will tell ARR
I am telling this because I have tried this out...
And that guy from Italy does not know both ARR and IR...
Well...

Mauruthi --> I tried this with a person from Nicaragua. I sent him songs of M.K.T.Bagavathar and ARR. He liked M.K.T.B.
Cut your crappy posts and post something meaningful and relevant. Who cares if IR's sell's the most or ARR sell's the most. It all matters to the fact that, do you buy it. If you like then go ahead with it else keep aay from it. Get a life man.....

How fast u have replied and how fast does your mouth spill golden liess....
ha Ha ha...
Just wonder what would have happenned if Shekar Kapoor showed Andrew Webber IR's music.
He would have frowned at Shekar Kapoor and thought low of Indian Music.
Why the hell did he then accept Rahman's Music.
Why is Rahman the best ouside music director in USA and UK ?
Why did he win the Outside Best Music Director in USA ?
All these speaks for his MUSIC... He is the BEST and no Denying it...
HE has made us INDIANS PROUD

I'm not even an Indian citizen..but for god sake..i listen to Vande Mataram..until now..even it was released 4 years back...
what makes me singing Vande Mataram.,....ARR of course..
what makes me sing Jana Gana Mana...ARR of course..
admit it guys..ARR is some sort of Indian delegate to the worlds' music community..

I'm not even Indian, yet I have Jana Gana Mana and I have vande mataram CD's. And I know the songs just 'bout by heart. I don't even know my country's song by heart. Maybe cause I neva lived there for a long time. But never the less, I wouldn't have known India's national anthem if it weren't for ARR. Right now, his name is selling .... itz selling to Indians, and itz selling to others too. I know a guy from germany, He's german, he buys rahman cdz ..and that has attracted him to indian cinema as well, so he buys indian dvds, regardless if itz rahman or not. So, rahman is attracting lotz of people into indian entertainment...

Is Bombay Dreams a commercial success? I mean how many pieces sold of that musical cd? Say a million copies? (Pop albums has to sell around 5 million to be called a hit. No idea about Musicals.) The show closed in June 13, does anyone have any personal experience of it is doing well in NY, it is believed to go off in Aug 04?!!
The question is, is it really worth the effort to composer for Broadway musicals? Does that many albums sell at all, that is reach a wide audience?

I really feld good when this thread was started and the crisp comment that followed in the opening page. I hoped that it will be a genuine thread without any bias but..... alas! my hope was shattered by the very second posting when the author of this thread reveled his colors bvy showing that he is an ARR fan! Then, how can you expect any reasonable debate here. This thread is DOOMED! I will not visit again.

My dear Gyan,is Bombay Dreams is released in US as a pop album than u can bring it in,its just a musical album for a show man,u dun expect them to everytime buy the show ticket to hear the songs,im sure they would love to watch it on MTV or V tv right???lets what untill Rahman does a Pop album featuring video clips along,Bombay Dreams' Shakalakka Baby is a good start!!

I was wondering really hard whether i should post here.. but heck, it's 8:20 A.M on a sunday.. so i guess i shud be giving vent to some frustrations! :)
But I'll jus say this...
IR's USP is his strong native flavour backed up by brilliant orchestration.
ARR's USP is his ability to transcend the barriers of language and region and appeal to all alike.
I rest my case.

IR has to reappear for the national test(hindi music) which he failed 15-20 yrs ago to appear for international test.......whereas ARR is a legend in hindi music already......and a Dark-horse in international scene.........ARR is surely the one to win this no-contest.....

Mauruthi,
IR and ARR are great music directors. But why need recognition from US and UK for them? INDIAN music is FAR AHEAD of theirs. One can derive all the western tunes from the classical ragas. Better Foreigners learn INDIAN MUSIC if they need better insight into the vast sea of music.

why do we need to take Indian herbs to UK and USA?
