I have been hearing to this IR Telugu radio on Live365. There is a theme music that's being played again and again. Site says it is from Marupadiyum. It's simply amazing. Does any one know if that theme is available on CD/Tape?

Ramana deserves a 4.5/10 rating. Some familiar, mildly entertaining tunes that the listener wouldn't really bother to repeat. Another dud by an above-average MD. I was disappointed, especially after listening to the much better 'En Mana Vaanil.' I mean, his effort to cater to the younger generation is evident in this album, and I guess he merits some credit for that. Let us IR fans hope and pray that 'Julie Ganapathy' comes out a winner.

i am surprised u did not like the IR solo. Maybe the lyrics are not in the league of 'Enna maranthalum' from Kathal Saathi or 'un kuthama' from Azhagi. But the quality of IR's singing i thought was the best here for quite some time.

Ramana songs orchestration is ecstatic. Orchestration is complex and fantastic. My suggestion is IR can freak out more on the pallavi, means right now the opening lines (tune) has no energy and too simple tune feel. Hariharan duet is great, the other song looks like karthik raja's. basically i feel IR can write (notation ;-) more longer pallavi and slow down the pace of the melody lines (tune;--) to more like contemplative romantic tunes, not the jumpy rhythm types. even today's generation appreciate less racy pace songs. i think IR is trying to appeal to village people settling in the city. ;--)

Was very much disappointed after hearing Ramana songs. Very very ordinary and with no pep and spirit. Looked like IR wanted to finish off the assignment and go home early. After a dumb album (Devan) for Vijayakanth earlier, there were expectations that IR will compensate with Ramana but he lets down very badly.

i have been listening to 'vaana ville', haven't listened to any other song in the movie yet. but what a composition. Can't imagine that the song could have been written on the paper first and then performed. the harmony is soothing, melody flows and blends into one another. the long interludes are a treat. also try listening to it after smoking some 'grass' (sic). you are transported to a state of what i can't describe.
Someone mentioned above that IR is targeting the village people settling in the city. I think he is also waiting for the MTV generation of the early 90's to mature into adults. He lost the youth generation (the mass that decided the populist trend in early 90's) when he suddenly turned a 'Classicist' specially after RPH and the advent of MTV culture.
the last ten years of TFM has seen an advent of what i call a process of 'Iterative' style of composition. This involves the use of successive improvisations and alterations to get a feel of how the music sounds. the final product evolves slowly once it satisfies the composer's ears. And if he is in tune with his fans ears, then he has a product of mass following.
There is another factor of 'Socioeconomic and political' revolutions during the Liberalization era of early 90's that merits an essay in itself which would explain the fall of IR's demigod status.
The relief is that he is still there.... on his own path of enlightened mission which will only unravel over time.

I agree with you Selva,
The songs are for the story..
Raja knows better than we fools how to score for a movie. If he feels that this movie's BGM needs Austrian PH Orchestra, then he is the authority. No one has ability to even comment on His thoughts.

Guru,

I would not agree to that. Raja is great, He does know what he could deliver. The key thing here is difference and experimentation, and self-satisfaction. But Gnani has almost always done the best with WCM experimentation.
People surely have a right to comment whether it was good or not though Gnani might think it is appropriate!!.
Songs are the story!! i surely agree to that.
Anyways can you guys give a link to listen to the songs as download or something.

Ramana songs are very good.I'am sure the songs
will help the movie a great deal in its run.
I saw the same negative comments for Kaasi once
the cassette was released but ultimately it has
turned out to be the biggest blockbuster for
five star audio.Totally 3 prints of cassetes
were released and now the company has also put
it in a lot of combinations with other previous
hits like nerukku ner and kaadhalar dinam. So don't
jump into conclusions about Ramana. It's surely going to be a hit.

vaana villE is good. But the unnikrishnan song is a recycled one. This is the 2nd time it is recycled in the recent past. Earlier in Friends (it is the nAyagan song, in different forms). Rhythm programming must be by Karthik. I am totally not fond of his choice of drum sounds. These things should be given to Yuvan (but I guess, he is treated like a kid and not consulted when the big guys are at work :)). Sound engineering sucks really bad. Maybe it is the real audio files that was not done properly. kAsi and kAthal jAthi (better than kAsi) were very good.
My opinion on sound engineering in IR's songs is - when he does things completely in his style, it comes out fine. Only when he does some new rhythms, so called commercial ones, the total product comes out with a bad 'finish'.
Maybe this movie is an opportunity for IR to do some WCM composing. The producers must have been willing to spend. So even if the situations for the song were not inspiring IR must have taken up this project.
Atleast now,I hope, the producers will release a CD with the songs and BGM. (did kamal release the hEy rAm BGM ?)
