Dear Friends,
Vidyasagar is known for his melodies. He is one person, who is still sticking to the formula of composing atleast one melody for almost every film.
Few of his melodies are
1. Malare Mounamaa by SPB and SJ
2. "Idhu Poothirukkum Vanamae" by Hariharan and Uma Ramanan and from a film jointly featuring Mamooty and Arvindsamy
3. "Udayaadha Vennilaa..." from "Priyam" (Hariharan and KSC)
4. "Nee Kaatru Naan Maram Enna Sonnaalum Thalayaattuvaen..." (Hariharan & KSC)
5. "Anbae Anbae Nee En Pillai..." (Hariharan & KSC)
6. "Sindhaamani Sindhaamani Sempoovin Thaal Thira Nee..." from the film "Aaha Enna Porutham" (Hariharan & SJ)
7. "Thaamara Poovukkum Thanikkum Enikkum Sandayae Vandhadhilla..." from "Pasumpon"
and there is one very good song from "Subaash" featuring Arjun and Revathi and rendered by SPB and SJ, a melody attempted to reproduce "Malare Mounamaa".
I am not able to recollect the name of that song (Title of the song)
Friends, can you help me out ?
In "Subaash", you also have the "O Salomaa Salo Ae Salomaa Salo..." featuring Silk Smitha and again an attempt to reproduce "Ae Shabba Ae Shabbaa" in "Karnaa"
Even after hearing to all the above melodies of his, my heart and soul are with this particular song of his, which is
"Dhandhana Dhandhana Thai Maasam Adhu Dhandhadhu Onna Thaan..."
This song comes in the film "Thavasi" and features Vijayakant and the Late "Soundharya".
Male voice is by KJY and the female voice, I guess it to be Sadhna Sargam.
The song, the music and the melody in it are all simply superb.
Also, I feel the song, to be in the "Saayal" of some other great song, which I am not able to figure out.
Friends, what do you think about this song ?

Kumar, the song you are talking about is 'Bhoomiye Bhoomiye poo mazhai naan peiyava'
'
Is "Dhandhana Dhandhana Thai Maasam" the best composition of Vidyasagar ?'
Certainly not, malare mounama is VS 's BEST melody, he should thank SPB+SJ for that :), great improvisations by both legendary singers, esp when SPB drags that bit ' Malareeeeeeee' goes really deep!!

Thanks Babaji, for your help.
Suddenly, I thought of searching "coolgoose" site so that I may find the title of the song.
I gave the search phrase as "Subash" and initiated the search, and very much as expected, I got that song and the song is
"Mugam Enna Mogam Enna Vizhi Sollum Jaadai Enna..."
A very good song, not many might have heard.

Babaji, I agree, that Vidyasagar is easily identified with the "Malare Mounamaa..." song and that song is one which brought him name and fame and also gave him the stamp that he is the one for melodies after Illayaraja in the recent years.
But, somehow, this "Dhandhana Dhandhana Thai Maasam Adhu Dhandhadhu Dhandhadhu Onna Thaan" appeals to me more.

"malare mounama" made him very famous but the songs in his 2nd inning (2001) are very catchy and great songs like "un samayal araiyil", "kathal vanthathum", "kana kandaen" are all examples of his melodious skills. i personnally think he should have received national award for background score in Anbe Sivam.

"Dhandhana Dhandhana Thai Maasam Adhu Dhandhadhu Dhandhadhu Onna Thaan" was sung by KJY at his 64th year, his voice a pale shadow of his real voice: The greatest voice in the whole world.
Just imagine how out-of-this-world the song would have been if it was sung by KJY about a decade back!
I do not mean to be unfair to KJY. I know every singer would ome to that stage.

Layaraja, KJY's rendition in that song is good only.
It suits Vijayakant very well and sounds nice be it audio or video.

all of vidyasagar`s songs are nice . . . that song mughamenna is from Subhash and quite contrary to his favourite raga which is DaRbArI KaNnAdA , Vidyasagar has used its melakarta , which is KARAHARAPRIYA. i`m saying this because most love songs by vidyasagar dont belong to KARAHARAPRIYA , but the one mentioned earlier . I think Udayaatha vennila is in Mohanam . have to analyze the raga`s of other songs . . .CAn AnyOne Help Me Please??? I would be extremely greatful . Email me at tsj@sify.com . THANKS.....

"Thandhana Thandhana thai masam" is simply a rehash of IR's "maasi masam aalaana ponnu"

thanthana thanthana thai maasam sounds more like semboove poove from Siraichaalai-music by ilayaraja.

I feel, "Malare Mounamaa..." has gone a bit older.
May be because of us hearing it often, I do not know.
Even, "Nenjukulle Ennaarunu Sonnaal Puriyumaa..." from "Ponnumani" too, in my opinion, Aluthu Poivittadhu.
I still remember, how big a hit was this song from "PonnuMani".
This is purely my opinion and also sorry for being off the track.

Friends, do you agree with me that
"Malarae Mounamaa" has become "Pazhasu" ?
