Even though, lately, Rahman's releases haven't had good reviews overall, the melody numbers in his albums have been highly appreciated by many & are so very soulful and a class apart(IMHO) from melodies by the other MDs, except for Vidyasagar who has been consistent in creating good melodies. Is Rahman THE Melody Master in the current TF Industy?
Here's a list of some of Rahman's best melodies(IMHO):
Udaya Udaya (Udaya)
Sonnalum (Kadhal Virus)
Nenjil Jil Jil Jil(Kannathil Muthamittal)
Azhage Sugama (Paarthale Paravasam)
Kadhale Jeyam (Paarthale Paravasam)
Swasame (Thenali)
Kaatre Enn Vaasal Vandai (Rhythm)
and the list is endless...
Your Opinions please..

ARR give good melody. No doubt in that. But not the melody master in the current TF Industy.I can not accept those mentioned as ARR's best melody. After alaipayuthe, kandukondein his music in TF industry is very normal.
If you look at those time all the producers and directors are behind him for his sign. But now nobody bothers ARR.
If you look at present situation other MDs like VS,YSR making their music more successful than ARR.
His recent movies udaya, parasuram not very hit like the past I can remember those days of KADALAN, BOMBAY, INDIAN.
It is a tuff time for ARR.

Are you pulling our legs for fun Mr. author?
ARR lost it like 7 years ago. What song of his do we remember now? What songs of his do we listen now?
That alone will tell you whether his songs have melody or not.

In recent times I liked the following AR tunes:
1) Jannal kaatraagi vaa jarigai poovagi vaa
minnal mazhai-aagi vaa uyirin moochaagi vaa
2) ThaniyE thannandh thaniyaE
naan paarthu paarthu irundaEn
3) Udhaya udhaya ulaurgiren
uyiral unaiyE ....
4) Nee-dhan en dEsiya geetham
ranjano ranjana
5) Sonnalum kEtpadhillai kanni manadhu
6) Endhan vaanin kaadhal nilavE
(although this song reminds slightly of a Hindi number which goes gharu the nikkal tehi)
7) En kaadhalE unakkor kaditham
In my opinion, 1, 3, and 5, are unforgettable melodies which will be good to hear even after several years.

and his song - THen Maaerku Parvu kaatru from Karuthamma is like IR's "Valaiosai Kala Kala"'s continued part.

I believe there are some ARR tunes which have borrowed from some IR interludes and even tunes but the above cited one is not, in my opinion. THen MErku paruva kaatru is a great song and is not like valai-yosai kala kala. Talking about recent nice melodies of ARR, the title song and vellai pookal in Kanathil Muthamittal are very good.

although his recent movies are not successful in my openion arr has created some good melodies. but he is not the one and only as the author say. IR also created quit a number of melodies. VS is good, HJ, YR, Baradwadj all are doing well. and in i think IR's melodies are more soul full than arr's melodies, like enai thalata varuvala, anantham anantham padum, masi masam alana ponu, nee partha parvaikoru nandri, ninaitha varam ketu and kadhal rojavey both from kadhal rojavey, china thayaval thantha rasavey etc etc... and Agosh also created some good melodies in their short carier like Nadodi patu pada thanthana thanthana thalam, tholaiviniley, nan irunda koviley etc.. no need to say abt vs and baradwadj. and hey i forgot to say i think there is a similarity between then valaiyosai first line and then merku paruva katru first line.. no offence!!

IR the greatest and latest and there can be no one ever greater than him. He started to influence other MDs from the 1950s (you see he was born in 1943). Case closed!
