I've always been curious to know the hit stats for this site and the background of hits....like do majority of surfers turn up from search engines, countries with most hits, count of unique IPs, traffic on most visited threads, etc.
Can admin share more light on that?

jus kidding...hehe...interesting question though
bb,
can u just give us the stats once? ... u can relax after that ... i mean, being numbers, Prabhu will keep track easily!

To make some guesstimates, several months ago, I'd given a link to some stuff on my page in the SOTD thread and I found some 40 people picking that up. So there should be around 80-150 serious surfers who come in on a daily basis to SOTD - it being a thread the serious-minded surfers frequent.
But the stats should definitely be skewed across different threads as there are a no of selective visitors eg. the Simbu threads :) There are hell lot of regulars who dont check out SOTD!
Also, an intelligent analysis of hits can give you some idea of the tamil diaspora - their geographical spread, their musical tastes and preferences!
The potential of figures practically analysed is endless - what forensics is to crime, statistics is to sociology, so lets not underestimate it! :)

BTW, alexa.com or some site shows the figures as over a million a month here...wonder how many distinct visitors are here.

Prabhu, try looking up newtfmpage.com on archive.org. They have some stats, I think.

The moment I saw the name of this thread, I knew who would have started it! Prabhu, why don't you share other findings from your individual analysis too?

in newtfmpage, we get roughly 100k-150k unique hits each month. forumhub and dhool put together generate around 100k unique hits a month.
newtfmpage gets about 250k hits a week (not unique).
most visited pages are the forum ones, and lyrics pages (TFSA and PPP). Top referring urls are almost always
http://www.google.com/search
http://search.yahoo.com/search
http://www.google.co.in/search
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx
http://www.google.com/custom
http://search.msn.com/results.asp
other google flavors like google.ca, google.au, google.sg.. google feeds newtfmpage a lot.
About 88% hits are from IE 5.0+.
SOTD thread gets around 1k-1.5k unique hits a week.
What else do you want to know?
if anyone has a fat pipe and can help, we can do more, especially in dhool, where we are under a lot of bandwidth problems.

Unfortunately, we have a lot of bandwidth and space constraints as it is becoming costlier to run a server.

bb, thanks for sharing that. Very impressive stats. More so considering that tfm music portals have sprung up like anything and sites encouraging piracy are rampant.
You missed telling us about the geographical origin of hits, and where India falls in that? Any pointers as to which region has shown most growth?
Now its just my guess that out of the surfers from India, an overwhelming majority works in software with net access..and with internet proliferation not as much as in Sing/Msia/US/Can, there is huge potential for more traffic. There is an ocean of non-software folks in India who are TFM freaks, imagine the effect if they get access to PCs and net! Probably only about 5% of the educated segment has access to net on a regular basis, with more I-net penetration we could easily expect the stats to multiply several times over.
Perhaps the surfers here who started their own music sites may have something to say on those technical bottlenecks.

Not much idea about geographical origins.. I don't think there are that many from India. Lots of US and sing/malaysia IPs.
