Why can't he release BGM soundtracks? Further his fear is natural, even TOP composers such as Eastern Mozart to TV serial MDs can steal his scores.
But we fans starve.....

If you have VCDs or DVDs it is pretty simple to rip the BGM..
From DVD
1) Rip off VOB files from DVD DVD crypter software
2) creates d2v and wav files of the portion you want to clip using DVD2AVI software. Don't convert entire VOB file into d2V and wav.
3) From d2v and wav create mpeg file using TMPGenc software
4) Use VCD gear to remove the audio portion
.. It is pretty straightforward. I ripped Niram Maratha Pookkal title song and some other music portion. I don't think they will release CDs.

i am sorry VCD gear is used to convert "dat" file in VCD into "mpeg" file.
To remove the audio portion use Virtual Dub software.

Even to extract the worthless by product waste (BGM), you still got to go through that painful, costly & time consuming process. IR is the one who steels Eastern Mozart to TV serial MDs master pieces for his own composition. That's how IR scored Symphony and all its been used as BGM's in many movies, so there is no need to release them as a separate album. Just follow Awe's step by step method to create your own Symphony !!!

Dear Friends,
I have done a lot of "ripping" from DVDs although not VCDs. I would like to do some service to IR fans and myself too by doing this. Which all films have a DVD copy. "Hey Ram" would be a great treat, so would be "Lajja"
Let me see if I can do something about it.
Thanks,

I ran across this Ilayaraja Radiostation on Google search. It is hosted on Live365 and it has loads of wonderful BGM tracks.
I have heard it for an hour and almost half of the time it was playing his BGMs. Though this is a telugu radio station, it has BGMs from many Tamil Dubbed movies. People who like IR's BGMs can check this out.

Dear Awe,
Could u please tell me how to cut only the BGM portion, from the entire audio soundtrack ripped from DVD, I have sippikkul Muthu, Azhagi, Anjali and few more of IR's movies, desperately looking for some software to either slice these audio portions and burn them on CD. For those looking for other BGMs of IR, Raajangam site does have some of them, except lajja all are real audio shortcuts, tried my best with streambox ripper didn't help. Please give me some tips.
Thanks IR fan, I will try to capture the live stream if it works.
Indian_Musician : The lajja BGM pieces are in mp3 format download them before they vanish

Music should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears from the eyes of woman.
Ludwig Van Beethoven
How true this is with Beethoven.. I was more than inspired by IR BGM... That is called music.. for example listen to Gabriel's Oboe clip from the movie Mission.. soundtrack.. I didn't even see the movie. Yet it moved me so much. Ennio Morricone unjustifyably missed the Oscar for this classic piece. Listen to this and some of the IR's BGM. Apart from the choice of instruments, there is hardly any difference in quality.. This is why IR is respected for his BGMs.

You don't have to come here and say that. Who invited you here? It is like going to an uninvited marriage and say that the food is not good. I can see what kind of fans ARR have.. low class.. who do not know about legendary composers like Ennio Morricone.. If you don't know listen to the Main title song of Good Bad Ugly..

When we talk about IR it is natural we will compare him with the likes of Beethoven and the greats. Oh yea.. "Here we are discussing about Tamil Film Music." say this to those who discuss about Bombay Dreams.. there is a huge thread.. It is about Illayaraja_Background Tracks.. it needs to be compared with something else to assess its superiority. Since TFM lacks a quality BGM scorer it is inevitable we have to compare him with great composers from the west. Just scroll back and read your stupid postings.. did you contribute anything meaningfully in any thread let alone this thread.
I tell your style for example
Topic: KVM's best songs
* From: Ayo Pattikkitchu (@ 24.42.239.175) on: Wed Sep 11 23:11:21 EDT 2002
Illayaraja sucks.. He cannot beat KVM.
This stupid post can be posted by any goddman person in the world. So don't be proud of yourself. Just analyze one song of ARR in an ARR thread. You cannot do it.. Because if i am right you listen to both IR and ARR songs.. but just to get on few people's nerves you write meaningless oneliners.
Cheap thrill in annoying others.. Just because you write one stupid line do you think we will suddenly become ARR fans and start abusing IR? Not in the next life. Most certainly not in this life. Don't waste your time.. go to some other thread carry on your "foolish" postings

They come here to spoil this thread. Let us not get distracted. Some of the background tracks can be found in the interludes and preludes of his song.. Not exactly .. Let me start with a song..
Song : Chinna Chinna Vannakuyil, Mouna Raagam
(If you have surround sound you can fully enjoy this masterpiece from IR)
There is a background runs behind chinna chinna vannakuyil subtle but beautiful
Interlude - between pallavai and first charanam
(humming and a music synch with that
humming)
Interlude between her singing Kaana Kaana...
Interlude - before second charanam.. flute..
and a wonderful piece of musical
arrangments..
Listen to this song carefully. It is such delightful number from IR. We can discuss more songs.

Awe, good points.IR used Gowri Manohari Raaga to compose the song. Chinna Chinna Vanna Kuyil. It is a wonderful raaga. Some other examples of IR in this raaga are..
Pon Vaanam Panneer Thoovudhu - Indrunee nalainaan
Solai Poovil Maalai Thendral - Vellai Roja
Ennathan Sugamo - Maapillai
Anbe Vaa Arugile - Kilipechu Ketkava
Thoorathil Naan Kand Un Mugam - ???
Poobalam Isaikkum - Thooral Ninnu pochu
Talking about Musical arrangments.. i think pon vaanam panneer thoouvdhu has musical arrangments..
and incredible vocal by S.Janaki. One of her best.

Another song with BGM effect..
Song: Ivaloru Illankuruvi Movie: Bramma
Again i recommend surround sound..
Start to Finish it is a wonderful song... music, vocal, tune and picturisation everything gel.
opening itself is classic. Watchout for the music Right after "ivaloru" piano tune. Flower doesn't blossom with a sound. If it sounds this is how it would be.
Right after pallavi before first charanam just watchout for the musical arrangments.. Absoultely stunning.. Again a "flower blossoming" sound in this but in different notes.
Right after first charanam then there is another great interlude from maestro...
This is one song which was largely underrated.

It is a known fact that IR is great at BGM. If one analyze, it is clear that IR is excellent in orchestration & handling of variety of Instruments. Most of his BGM (Azagi, Mouna Raagam, Idayathai Thirudathey, Bharati etc..)are very catchy tunes. 'Indranum Sooriyanum' of Avatharam went unnoticed because of flop of the film, but this particular song is composed with blending both western & folk instruments to produce one of the best fusion, which no one as ever attempted. Most of his film title & tail end BGM music is very catchy melody filled instrumental bit, which too has gone unnoticed since such time is spent on searching or leaving the seats at theatres.
IR fans would be definetely happy if such BGM Tracks are released in the form of Volumes / Albums such as HOW TO NAME IT & NOTHING BUT WIND.
Awe/Prabhudas - If possible, try to get me the Soundtrack of the title music of some of IR films such as 'AZAGI','AVAARAM POO' (Mp3/Mp3pro Formats)
