I am looking for a Synthesizer-cum-keyboard with which I can reproduce IR-styled appregiation of vibes & bells, while I can play the modern ARR/HJ type of new sound. I have recently bought the Korg Karma, but I am not satisfied with its sound, especially the choir, strings and piano. With Korg, I could create lots of techno music, but not the sounds I am looking for. In fact, Yamaha's PSR-540 sounds much better in terms of richness of the sound.
I know some of the TFMers are good keyboard players and music composers and I am sure they would have bought some good keyboard. Please give me your suggestions.

You are absolutely right. For an amature player like me, Karma or Triton is a over-kill. I don't have wide knowledge on the Synth. I am trying to learn with the Karma. That is the reason I bought the Karma. I am not planning to add new sounds, but at the same time I should have the ability to tweak the existing voice sample.
While I am typing this response, I am listening to your 'forlorn'. The lead flute is really good. Did you use 'Tabla' from Triton or original 'Tabla'. Please let me know if Yamaha's EX-7 or Korg N364 would be more appropriate for me. I may use it for stage performance at a later date. Thanks!!

I hope srikanth doesn't mind if I post some of his composition links - but i am posting this thinking he won't bang me later.
This is just to let u guys know how a talented composer/musician can adapt the things and use the electronic gadgets as tools but not just them. And see the playing in general - magic is not in the triton...but with the composer and musician...Go ahead and do good things - who knows probably some day even u guys may do something better...

The only way to stop this promotion is that when u start doing mediocre music:-)
This also means u have to be on toes doing such good music:-)
I like those compositions and hence all these troubles...

I heard Motif is a pretty good buy. It has excellent tones + it comes with synth and sampler - all for decent price. I would say check it out...

I dont know much about this seeing as i dont have any of these keyboards, but i 2 am lookin 2 buy a new keyboard cum synth. I think it all depends on wat ur lookin 4 in terms of live performance or recording. As far as live is concerned, keyboard/synth is the one, but if u want 2 do recording only/mainly, i recommend a module(Korg).Essentially, this is just a music box- lots and lots of sounds. The sounds r much wider spread and can very easily b adapted. Also inputing a new sound is very simple, and this 2 can b modified. The module works through any set of keys. So if u already have a keyboard, u just wire it through there. I dont know if this has been any help or more confusion, but its sumthing. Hope u find the right one.good luck.

I saw few demo video on yamaha motif and it is very nice. I havent tried it out, planning to do so this weekend at one of the guitar centers.
Karma is also nice, but it has lot techno music oriented stuff ,
Motif also has GE real time controls and also good appregiators, the demo with flute and guitar was very impressive

Their ethnic song demo sucks...I doubt how far it's useful for indian music:-)) Ofcourse it depends a lot on the musician who works on it.
