Admin, please take part in this discussion. Its a request. Serious music lovers take part in the discussion please, others keep off. I request.
This write up is taken from a post, written by Mr. Kalidas Swaami at Rahman Online.com. But, this is something which all of us at TFM have to think very seriously.
Mr. Kalidas, sorry to put up this article without your permission, I think we all have to think about this. Read On: (As written by Mr. Kalidas Swaami at Rahman Online.com).
Dear Fans,
I have been observing this for a while now - most of the consistent A R Rahman fans who visit this site wait for his music to release, listen to it 1-2 times on MP3 or Real Audio and then choose not to buy it. There are thousands (may be millions) of A R Rahman fans guilty of this. Many have heard SOME OF Paarthale Paravasam, Kaadhal Virus, Udhaya and most recently, Parasuram over the Internet and criticized it openly in forums to deter a wider range of buyers. The number of music lovers searching for information online has increased dramatically, and these seemingly small negative vibrations we send each time a new Rahman album is out is definitely wrecking his business. Saathiya, which is such a fine album for 2002 was met by aggression from the Tamils in many forums. They blamed Rahman, Adnan Sami and Gulzar for ruining Saathiya (check the earlier messeges in the archive to see what I mean). While ardent A R Rahman fans will be unmoved by such narrow mindedness, the masses (who do research before buying music) will surely think twice before selecting Rahman's music over someone else. I am sorry to say, but if Rahman albums are losing the hype, then we are indirectly responsible for it. Even though the CDs may be selling at nearby stores, lots of us are satisfied to RIP OFF 128 KBPS MP3 music. I still find it hard to believe that scores like Kaadhal Virus and The Legend of Bhagat Singh had to bomb! They are timeless experiments in music, which some of us love to criticise. Sorry about the size of messege folks, but I guess Parasuram is the next one on our HIT LIST. Thanks to you whiners again...

As bb said, the factor in buying a cassette/cd by reading other's reviews is equivalent to
watching 'Pavala Kodi' Thirai vimarsanam in Sun tv and watching the movie in Udhayama theatre ...
A good music album or movie will speak for itself most of the times.. If Udhaya & Parasuram (Which I'm not sure) havent gone well, then there could be various factors affecting the sales... The quality of the songs, marketing, time of release, actors, competing with other movies etc... We cant
single the factor that ripping mp3 versions of the songs are the only cause... I know HC Fans
of IR who have purchased original CDs of 'Karisakkattu poove' & HC fans of ARR who have purchased
CDs of 'Vandhicholai chinnarasu' (I'm just quoting examples.. NOM) ..
That's just their own interest and choice of listening...I have quite a few original
audio cds but i'm not accessible to original CDs anymore.. I'll have to drive for 4 hours to a buy a original CD/cassette or wait for some online store to release the CD/cassette which they do 1 or 2 months after the release... In By that time, the songs are a matter of past.. Doesnt it make sense for me to listen to these songs online or rip the songs so that I can listen to them regularly.
Again to judge a song, listening to it
once or twice online is not the right way... But thats the way many people write their opinions
in this forum .. I myself have listened to certain songs and termed it as 'trash', only to listen to it again sometime later and really like the song...

if they tamil industry brings super audio then it would slow down(maybe...). Super audio which is the latest technology after compact audio disc. It uses more bits for channels and bits and so you get better sound.

At the end of the day, you can't withhold good stuff and no matter what, you cannot market rotten stuff.
Survival of the fittest is the mantra and it doesn't matter whether it is ARR or IR, if they can't deliver, the exit will be shown to them faster than you can say abracadabra.
Hard core fanship can make a MD survive only in forums such as this, but it is the masses who determine who is the leader.
Welcome to the real world. :)

I think for previewing material, realaudio sites such as Raaga.com are fine and not a threat to CD sales. It even helps people decide if they want to buy it. PREVIEWING IS GOOD FOR SALES!
Good MP3s are not always easy to find and take time to download, so buying a CD is actually easier. But there are thousands, and millions of potential customers, and some of them buy CDs because they want good quality music. And there is no need for greedy record companys or MDs. I do not support greed.
Ok, I think I'm infected with the timeless Khandal Virus and must throw up now.

People dont buy ARR cd's because the songs are bad.No matter what quality the mp3's are in. People listen to YSR MP3's and still go and buy them. That is because ARR sucks now.

I am an ardent ARR extremist who listens to only ARR's music and buys all the cassettes of ARR..I guess all ARR fans should listen to only ARR's songs and not to listen to all the other idiotic so called music directors...
Mr.Sam, where on earth are you? YSR was the worst thing ever to happen to tamil music after Karthik raja..Dare you say about ARR..ARR is GOD!!

--"I am an ardent ARR extremist who listens to only ARR's music and buys all the cassettes of ARR"--
there is nothing wrong in that... but bcos you are not listening to other's songs, you are not expected to know them and so you have no right (or knowledge) to comment on them.. okay-va?
