We've seen lot of RAP type songs from ARR, Karthik Raja.
I am only now into these genres. In fact, the forms seem to have evolved to exciting art forms in the US. Rap has highs and lows in "rhythm" ideas, R&B has got soft consistent rhythm and a slow, small melody passage - identify very much with IR's innovative and gentle rythms. Soul is kind of ballads and meandering not as interesting as R&B. However, these influences would be great in TFM. Some very creatives R&B hits are recently from Aaliyah's - Aaliyah listen to "More Than a Woman", then Ashanthi hit "Happy", Kelly Rowland's song with "Nelly".
Today even POP songs feature really innovative RAP "interludes". Is there some TFM songs with such influences just as these genres are now using Hindi songs as melody lines as in "Addictive" by Truth Hurts and and many others in recent times. Any expert opinions on these genres versus TFM musical ideas too can be discussed.

As long as Tamil Music Identity is not lost in all these, its fine to experiment. Regardless of the style of music, it still has to be presented well. I just would like tamil music to have an identity and originality. period.

I meant Rap, Hip-Hop & Soul or R&B. Lately these types of music sound great, evolving very fast into pleasing sounds.

Young music directors like Yuvan Shankar Raja are innovating with a lot of RnB/Hip Hop styles.... just listen to 'Idhu Kaadhalaa' from Thulluvatho Ilamai - it is great!

2 other good examples of RnB/Hip Hop in TFM are:
Thiru Thiruda from 5 STAR - Music by PARASURAM RADHA - aka Anuradha Sriram and her Husband, sung by Sreenivas and Sujatha
This song has 'lifted' the bassline and strings from The late Aaliya's "We need a Resolution". It follows the Ragam Karaharapriya throughout the melody line, as the bassline follows the Minor Scale. They have also innovatively remixed in a little bit of 'Destiny's Child's' - Jumpin', also in Karaharapriya...... Isn't it great?
The next number is:
Eh Eh Yenna Aachu Unakku from Kadhal Virus, MD, AR Rahman, Sung by Vasundra Das
This song follows a real rnb/Hip Hop style, with some distinct inspirations from Destiny's Child's Jumpin' and Bills Bills Bills. No real Raga pattern in this.
