OK. Now its been three times that i have seen the movie (don't look at me as if i were mad myself, i am not). IMHO, KAMAL has captured to stunning perfection what a PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIA looks, acts & behaves like, of course with a tiny bit of cinematic exaggeration which is very much pardonable. Are there any soul out here who liked the movie? (By the way, SHANKAR-ESAAN-LOY have done perfect justice when it comes to music)..IMHO....KAMAL FANS (like me), anyone out there?

As far as subtleness in potraying the character is concerened, there are atleast 10 occasions in the film where you might see NANDHU (Schizo Paranoid)doing something irrelevant, but all are minute and calculated potrayal of the disorder that KAMAL has taken pain to learn. For instance, Schizo paranoids (in more than 50% cases) tend to loose focus in what they intially take up to do. This explains the sudden mind change in the climax.

Yeah, ABHAY is a great venture. Kamal's excelled in portraying
the psychopath's character obviously. Whatever SHANAKAR has
given to the music of ABHAY is very good. The first song, KOYAL SE MILEE
is simply heart-touching. The weary theme and Zingoria are also
commendable. But I feel something is missing. he should have two more catchy numbers for an undoubted success of the
audio as he gave for DIL CHAAHTHAA HAI.
Anyway, good job by everybody , but surely not the best.

:-)OOPS, TYPO..last sentence should read "movie" and not "movies"...anyways, the film did have the level of effort that can be easily distributed to ten other "RUN OF THE MILL" stuffs. (i mean, with the effort that has gone into ABHAY/ALAVANDHAAN, ten mediocre movies could have been made). So plural might be justified :-)

I liked the movie too... but I felt maybe kamal
spent too much time in explaining the physco
attitude of nandhu.. but I guess this kindof
attitude is not easily understood to the indian
audicne and so he spent extra time in explaining
it.. but I think the common man is not going to
understand his expensive ways of story telling..
I like such complicated movies and stories, so I
liked this.. but the comments which i heard from
my fellow movie watchers in the theatres were
not so encouraging.. some just stood staring
trying to think whether they liked the movie or
not.. !!!

Kumar...a point to note here...many people ask why the cartoon sequence were lengthy? That is because when paranoid schizophrenics go into their dream lands (when they have visions or hear people talking), time and space does not exist...That is why that "shoping mall" scene too was very lengthy...

he just wanted to show how "their" (schizo paranoids) world looks like.

Kamal is simply superb in the role of Nandhu ! A gret movie, and a new dimension in the cinema field ...

yes pras...they say schizo paranoids find smells that are not there in air. Did u notice a small dialogue between NANDHU KAMAL and MANISHA, where he says,"i can smell her (RAVEENA) here. Damn it, somehow she has escaped. Where is she?"
How many will relate & understand such extreme levels of effort that KAMAL has put in?

Hi, I am not a kamal fan. Infact I criticised him several time for over acting. Many times I felt I see kamal in the roles he played. But in Nandhu I could see only the poor child, within a demon. Kamal has done that role excellant. It is true that many people will dislike the movie and guess the team also would have expected this. So I appreciate kamal and the team for taking the risk and making it a wonder.

..//",,only the poor child, within a demon..."//..
ec...perfect words man...in fact that summarizes the character precisely...just a poor battered child that feels everyone out there is planning some conspiracy against him...In fact, vairamuthu could have even written,"kuzhandhai paadhi saathaan paadhi, kalandhu saitha kavithai naan..."

After watching the movie for the first time, I gathered some info on paranoid schizophrenia, just to see to what length Kamal has gone to portray the role. The answer : Brilliant !! He has done cinematic and medical justice to the role. Kudos Kamal for your tireless journey in your quest for quality. We, your great fans, will support you all the way. We are feverishly waiting for more........

ah sedhu..some good words to say to a man who has put in so much of effort into immaculate potrayal of a schizo paranoid...In this context, i wud also like to state that had the distributors of the film put up a small notice ( on what a schizo paranoid behaves like), people would have appreciated the movie a lot better...(like for hollywood movies like JURASSIC PARK, there were detailed storylines which explained how pre-historic animals were re-created from the fossil remains of a mosquito)...Had they done this small work, people (common man) wud understand the finer nuances & intricate details that have been taken care of in the movie ALAVANDHAN...I guess it is high time Indian movie viewers grew up from mudane 'run of the mill' stuffs...

dear vch....we all know he is a remarkable genius indeed...he has proved it once again in ALAVANDHAAN...for the interest of those who are yet to watch the movie, here is a description (taken from a website) on "paranoid schizophrenia", a mental disturbance disorder. This has been brilliantly captured by KAMAL in the character NANDHU...here goes the definition...
QUOTE:
-----------------------
Paranoid Schizophrenia (our NANDHU KAMAL)
This is the commonest type of schizophrenia in most parts of the world. The clinical picture is dominated by relatively stable, often paranoid, delusions, usually accompanied by hallucinations, particularly of the auditory variety, and perceptual disturbances.
------------------------
UNQUOTE
In fact, seen in the light of this definition of the disorder, every single scene in the movie ALAVANDHAAN seems relevant and you understand the effort by KAMAL better...TOP CLASS performance.
