Dear Music Rasikas
I come to know that great Carnatic Musician G N Balasubramaniam had sung( simultaneous acting also) in 5 movies namely, Bhama Vijayam, Sathi Anasooya, Shakunthala, Udayanan and Rugmangada . Is there any music records Ep LP available of these movies?

You can find a couple of his duets w/ MS in Sakunthalai on the Meera/Sakunthalai CD/cassette. There is a Kambodhi virutham in the VHS version that's not on the CD/cassette. I understand that Udayanan-Vaasavadatta is available on VHS, but the audio track is either missing/damaged.
Note that he is listed in the credits of Maaya bazaar (the 50s version) as well - the only place that he could be in is a scene later in the movie when Ghatotkacha (Ranga Rao) visits Krishna (NTR) in Dwaraka. Krishna is in disguise as an old man and sings a short song. It doesn't sound like GNB.
If you find anything about the other movies pl update us.

kik,
r u talking about the song vatRaadha selvamae vaazhga nee vaazhga; perumaayai sirumaayai adhu swaaha idhu swaaha avannaanae ivannaanae?
yes to me too it doesn't sound like GNB's voice, though i heard one song of GNB his voice is different from that old man's voice, i guess that voice is of Ghantasala himself. Correct me if it is wrong.

Kupps: He (Krishna as old man/GNB?) recites a verse/song as Ghatotkacha enters the palace. There's a little bit of back and forth before he says "vatraatha selvame...". It's the verse which could be sung by GNB.
Sivaprasad Saheb: This 'VHS' means videotape. Visit www.columbiafilm.com and send an email to Mr. Balan asking about these films. U-V may actually be available at Raj video vision.
One more rings a bell, though I'm less sure about this one - mahaatma uthangar. I think GNB starred in the title role. Same problems as U-V, I believe.

I could somehow manage ordering. But as you wrote, Udayanan-V is not found in their list. Instead i found Bhama Vijayam B&W, 1934?). I am not sure whether it is the second Bhamavijayam( K B's) or not. Also they have not given the price. Can you please help me?
also can you mail to me their postal address?

Sivaprasad: Sorry for not getting back earlier - I'm used to the tfmdf being organized chronologically, but noticed that the threads are arranged randomly instead.
I haven't used the new website to order - you can check their old site for the email address (www.angelfire.com/biz/columbiafilms/). I too think the baamaa vijayam you are seeing is the late 60s one by K Balachander.

dear KIkji
Thank you for the reply.
As you said Bhama Vijayam is KBs. I could contact Balan and he says Shakuntala is available and not Udayanan! the cost is in Malasian Rignitt. I wonder these are with the Malasian Tamils!
Indians do not bother about any systems! as you said " every thing is in Random"
Columbia films says that they are compiling GNB movie songs. I am not quite sure about this. Where is this located ? at Kolalampur Malasia?

Sivaprasad: Raj Video Vision is in Chennai on Anna Saalai (before TVS/british council - near Anand? theater). I'll check and get back to you if I still have their contact info still from my last trip.
BTW, can you clarify what Mr. Balan said - they are compiling the movie songs of GNB on video tape? If they don't have the movie tapes, how are they going about this? Of course this probably will take forever - I'm still waiting for movies they said they will release 2/3 years ago.

Balan writes that the music will be in cassets not in video tape.
What about Udyanan, Have you seen that?. Balan has not mentioned that Udayanan-V is in their possession whe he sent the mail.

see GNB has not acted in Mahatma Udangar. In that
film Kothamangalam Seenu acted. Raj Video visiion
is in Chennai. GNB acted films only Sakunthalai
in Video cassette available. No other films are
available in Video cassttes. Even his film songs
are very difficult to get. Only three sources
one is Malesaia Columbia film, second is
Sri V A K rangarao in chennai(has collected old gramaphone records -once that he is having records of GNB's songs in Rukmangadan) another is Sri Santhanakrishnan, from Tirunindravur, who has also collected lot of old gramphone records is having some songs of GNB films. if you need I will give phone no. of both.

Sivaprasad: I don't visit this site as often as I used to - there's little useful/interesting stuff here. In fact, Mr. Natarajan's post above is the most interesting I've seen in a while. I'm sending him a separate email to see what I can discover when I visit India this dec-jan.
And that's the long way of saying I'm sorry I've not replied to you...
