IR songs sung by Uma Ramanan

Hi guys, I have heard a lot of songs of IR sung by Ramanan. They are mostly some of the best. This thread my enlighten everybody with some of the great songs, tuned by IR and sung by her, in such a way that it seems as though IR tailor made those songs for her.

  I agree with that! IMHO, she is ok but there are better female singers in the TFM world... but like you guys pointed out, she has done justice to songs like "aagaaya vennilaavae" etc :)

  Most of the songs of Uma Ramanan have excellent string pieces, something like Manjal Veyyil, Ananda Raagam, Boobalam Isaikkum. and so on. I believe IR has the sense of combination of instruments, based on the singer.

  My favorites is, "Aagaaya Vennilaavae" from Arangaetra Vaelai.
  
  Of course I would've liked it even if PS, Chitra, Sujatha, VJ, or someone else sang it. When you bring up Uma Ramanan as a singer, are you discussing songs that were good because she sang them or are they good songs regardless of singer and she just happens to have sung them.
  
  I can't imagine any special characteristic in these songs that she brings by singing. All her good songs would have been good if some other singer would have sung it too. The reason I stress this is because her voice though inoffensive most of the time, doesn't bring a unique feel to the rendering that makes you categorize it as "Uma Ramananesque".

  There is another song 'Oor Urangum Saamathil'
  from Pudhupatti ponnuthayi. Great song...

  Uma sung Sri ranga ranganathannin paadham from Mahanadhi, but her part got cut in the movie! But the album has parts that she sung.

  I agree. Anandha raagam used to be early favourite. But after listening to Manjal veyil recently I have fallen for this song.But as Udhaya said Uma does not have a characteristic or special rendition, anyone can sing these songs, they happen to be good compositions thats all.

  I tend to differ with people who say Uma is just an average singer. I feel something special in her voice. Azuththam thiruththamaana kural, TheLivaana tamizh uchcharippu, In addition to these, She is very good in expressing feelings with her voice - Listen to 'Aagaaya veNNilaavee' and 'Aaarum athu aazam illai' (Pathos version) and 'Manjal veyil' -- you will get the difference, She gets into the situation, brings the emotions in her voice and always tries to give her best. She may not be another Janaki or Susheela But I sincerely believe she is defenitely not inferior to Chitra or Anuradha Sriram - An above Average singer I would say. :-)
  
  Needless to say I am a big fan of her. Got some 3/4 cassettes with songs sung by her for IR (In an interview she mentioned 85% of her songs were by IR)

  'thanniyiley' is from 'KeLadi KaNmaNi' (But I think this song was Not picturised/included in the movie). A real good song.

  Sridhar, the UR number in Vaidehi is `mEgam karukayilE'...another subdued role for the female singer where the male voice (IR) dominates with a native `maNam'!
  
  There's another song in which UR sings on a secondary role - `amudhE, thamizhE' in kOyil puRA. The music teacher even comments in that song `pAru, thambi evvaLavu azhagA pAdaRAn' (PS is the thambi:-))

  My opinion goes with NagaS. Uma is definitely a very good singer. What to say about her 'pisuru thattaadha' voice, smoothness even in high pitch (this advantage of her made IR to use her in some of great high pitches songs like Aaananda Raagam instead of using S.Janaki). IMHO I would rate Uma more than Anuradha Sriram.
  
  Surely she is an obscured very talented singer even now...

  I was listening to this song(non-IR I think)"malligai enn mannan mayangum".I thought it was UR.
  
  She sang that song exceptionally well.Wonderful tune too.Probably her best.atleast a few notches above "Aagaya vennilavee"

  A good song is Muthama Muthalamma, sung by her, and Arun Mozhi. I am not sure about the film name. But its great song . A exact stamp of IR.
