I really loved Vidhu Prathapan's singing.
When I heard him go " Ae Hay hayyyyyyyyyyyy" in Solla Marantha Kathai for IR I thought he will be the next KJY.
I personally feel that he is miles ahead of these stunt guys like Karthik, Harish Raghavendra, Devan etc.
What do you guys think?

Its better to talk on constructive music. Why compare a filth with the diamond

Getting awards is nothing connected with quality these days. No logic is there in the comparison of these two singers too. Even the son of KJY is unable to reach that level. Then how others.

Better stop this discussion at this point and dont degrade the music rich KJY.

Vidhu Prathap is a good singer, but he has got a lot of limitations. He is alot nasal and sings as if affected from cold. But still the voice is sweet, so it fits melody and fast numbers. There is definitely no chance for him to be next KJY, whereas Madhu Balakrishnan is put in the first place. I think even thats tough. KJY has terrific vocal range, and unparalleled sweetness of voice.
None of the new singers except Madhu show a strength in their voice. Everyone is singing like teenagers (Male Noices). But as the campus films are flodded in Kerala, they get the business.

I am not sure what you mean by strength in the voice, but as far as singing goes, the aspect under discussion seems to be the vocal control being applied.
Let me start slowly since this seems to be a minority view. What makes a cinematic song very beautiful is the application of the appropriate emotion for the scene, the breath control, the clarity of the "sangathis" (when the same line of song is sung in different ways), the pronounciation and even the way the breath is inhaled. Then there are external factors that you cannot control after some years of singing - like if you tried to ape Yesudas all the time trying to get the bass in his voice or the way he shifts to a different voice when rendering high pitched notes, or the effect of singing at too many classical kacheris. Or even that you cannot introduce your own improvisations into songs - typically things that MGS and Hariharan do on stage shows. KJY does it during shows too, but many times its because he does not try stick to the original.
Now, about Vidhu - he's the best in the new crop, whether you like to believe it or not. Reasons are many and you would know that too if you follow his achievements as closely as I do and I am not talking about awards. But probably his best weapon is that he brings a certain beauty to his songs that are not dictated by the music directors, and he's improvising in every song. Besides, he is only 23 and has long career ahead to prove his mettle. Listen to his song in Soumyam, its very different from his song in Katha though they are both soft melodies. Secondly, he has a control over the rendering that is hard to beat by any newbie - the other impressive guy is Karthik, listen to the way he does "Yenakoru girlfriend venamada".
Madhu is great too, he would have been the successor to KJY but for him adapting the KJY style as well. If Vijay does that I understand, he got his training from his dad, but why would everybody else take after Yesudas. I mean how many of you would see the movies of a guy desperately trying to act like Mohanlal, no matter how close he comes to the real Lal?!!! So, why do we try to get another Yesudas so badly? Also, many a times Madhu forgets that he's singing a movie song, there's those times when the underlying classical vocals get mixed in with the casual music of his songs.
Lastly, there are no bad singers in Malayalam, we are a very discerning lot, our tolerance levels are very low, which is why even a great vocal talent like SPB and a good singer with clout like Vijay could not get a strong foothold in our industry.
