1. when ( young) parthiban's mother give him sweets converying the news of dhanalakshmi attaining age ( solo violin piece raja kalakittar)
2. in pyramid natarjan house when they all have lunc together there is chorus in bgm , the language must be french too goood
3. when nanditadass puts her boy in the school and he falls on the feet of parthiban for blessing

One more point about azhagi BGM , apart from the scenes i mentioned above , mostly the music of the song "oliyile therivadhu " has been used as the BGM , U TOO RAAJA !!?

There are 2 scenes I thought I’ll mention from Karisalkaattu Poove for IR’s BGM:
1. Ravali manages to take away a sketch from Vineeth that he doesn’t want to show her and starts running away from him. He runs behind her to take it back and manages to stop her only by getting hold of her mElaaku/pallu from near her stomach (she is in half-saree). This has been convincingly shot.
This is a 1 min sequence and just notice how the bgm changes to different moods – starts slowly, then gets more jolly (when she starts running away and he goes behind her), then a few hesitant-romantic moments (when he gets hold of her hand and lets it go slowly – romantic feel from his side), then again the jolly mood, then conveys the danger, stops a few seconds (after he pulls her mElaaku) for the short dialogue of enraged Ravali, the innocence gets conveyed and then ends in a serious and sad mood (when they show Vineeth).
2. Acoustic/native drums are used when Napolean ties ThaaLi to Khushboo in a temple (after a fight with goons). Meanwhile, Ravali gets readied for her marriage with Napolean at home and comes near the mandapam (at home). Nadhaswaram is used here which is later joined by the MELam. Then, Napolean and Khushboo come home married and Ravali sees this. At this moment, violins take over to express the seriousness of the situation, and the confused and shocked Ravali. Ravali faints. The shot is now on Napolean and Khushboo. Napolean goes off the screen and Khushboo is shown weeping (bcos her marriage to Napolean was unexpected and it had ruined Ravali’s marriage). And at this point there is a flute piece that comes creating a confused-sad mood.
This is a 2 min sequence just before the intermission with no dialogues, with the flute piece for just the last 10 secs. All this is in slow motion and may seem silly (when u read this) but the bgm makes a great impact.
I just can’t imagine anybody else doing justice to these scenes the way IR did. The continuity is never lost and doesn’t create that ‘odd’ feeling. Actually, I did not expect Kasthuri Raaja to give such difficult situations for IR, more so, the 1st one. Though the bgm is not great at other times, it does help a lot in making this film a decent one.
I saw this movie after reading the Deepavali 2001 reviews here and am sure this is a much better film than most of those. It is entirely village based and is not the routine selfless love-triangle. Only once in the beginning of the film they show a bus coming from city and stopping in the village as an entry scene for Vineeth and Vivek. There is not even a single shot of city. There are, however, 3 koothu paatu (bcos it is entirely village based) that can be ignored. The remaining 3 songs are gems. Comedy by Senthil and Vivek is also good. This probably could be Napolean’s best film (not for his acting but the film as a whole).
I also happened to watch Houseful. Parthiban should be commended for his novel (and daring) attempt. BGM goes well with the film. More than anything else, I liked the naughty-yet-innocent romantic moments between Vikram and Suvalakshmi. Suvalakshmi brought out the innocence very well:)

In karisa kattu poove after the interval there is this sothappal again and the director just starts killing all the characters one by one. Finally vineeth dies when the movie ends.Really stupid ending and spoils the good start the movie gets. The hariharan song is an amazing melody('Ayiram kodi..')

music in karisakaatu poove was just great - except climax, the movie was a good one and could have run better if there had not been a sad ending...

yes. the second half could have been better (coincidentally, the 2 scenes i mentioned are from the 1st half:)) and even the dubbing voice for Ravali was irritatingly konjal. that voice didn't suite her. but the film seemed to be much better than many of the Deepavali '01 releases.

I had a chance to see karisakkattupoove only recently-A.....Mazing bgm!!
two bits which stand out in my memory -
one place where aayiram kodi is played in a way in WCM manner with a heavy Bach influence-imagine a folk melody with bach overtones !
and the last scene where napolean finds his brother dead-a chorus of voice-all singing a single long note from which a single voice emerges-the chorus rejoins and the theme is taken up by strings...
i just cannot imagine this film witout its bgm.
if any IR fans have not seen this film, dont miss it-the film itself is not too bad either.

One more point about azhagi BGM , apart from the scenes i mentioned above , mostly the music of the song "oliyile therivadhu " has been used as the BGM , U TOO RAAJA !!?
I have a point here. We have many instances in our forum saying that using songs as a part of BGM is bad. IMHO, we cannot discount it altogether. Afterall what are songs? They are narration of a particular set of events in the film(apart from illogical explicitly stuffed in songs, ofcourse). There may be a non-song sequence that could be used as a BGM in that part of the scene but if song is used as BGM and that doesn't bring down the quality of BGM and enhances the flow why shouldn't it be used? Using songs in BGM, in some situations, might give good feeling to the film sequence. IMHO using incorrect music sequence with inappropriate instrument(or whatever it is) that fragments the movie sequence and is incohesive with the flow is Bad. But yes using ONLY songs as BGM, "lalaa lallla la" chorus are bad, it spoils the mood(mostly), shows that lack of orientation/interest towards the film you(MD) work and want only your(MDs) product to be showcased(im not getting into the talent part here) and hence you are not doing justice to your role, as an MD.
In ARR's case this "song using as BGM" is often considered/attributed to as major weekness. To my knowledge this could be accounted in Roja and his earlier movies but not many of the later cases. In later cases, imho, he has reduced this "only songs usage in BGM" strategy(no one needs to eliminate this strategy, again as per my contention). People even say that his BGM effort in Lagaan is laudible(i have not seen Lagaan or any of ARR's hindi movies, incl rangeela).

Kupps,
I remember IR used the song 'Puththam puthu poo pooththathoo' in thaLapathi as BGM, the song was not there in the movie for some reason, but made huge impact as part of BGM !
Reg., ARR's BGM - I don't want to sound like a ARR hater, But I am yet to listen to some 'real and complete BGM' from ARR till date for a full movie., there may be bits and pieces of good work in BGM, (For example, 'Bombay theme' was very good) , But a complete work ... atleast I don't remember any, (I haven't seen any ARR Hindhi movie and I am talking about his tamil movies only)

'Karisakaatu Poove' is an extremely good album by IR, particularly the two songs... 'Aaaiyram Kodi Sooriyan Pole' - by HH and
'Maamarathula Oonjal Kattanum Maamara Kuyile' - Unni and Bhava. These are too good songs. I bought the cassetes an year back in Kumud. It is sad to see these songs have gone under recognized.
The same is the case with the album 'Kaadhal Saathi' there are two wonderful songs in the album ' Kaathe Kaathe, Kaadhoda sollu..' - by Karthik and 'Manase en Manase nee enga poga paarkira...' - Once again by Unni and Bhava. There is another typical folk song in the same album sung by kovai kamala... - Just listen to the Chorus in the song, WOW! Absolute Melody!!
I appreciate Raaja for his ability to give such wonderful songs in his every album, no matter whether the movie is hit or not.

>>>song "oliyile therivadhu " has been used as the BGM , U TOO RAAJA !!?
Nothing wrong if IR does it. Had it been ARR....well I don't want to talk.
Kupps:
Good posting. I agree. ARR has done some amazing BGMs but what stands out is his usage of songs. One bullet to hit ARR. The problem is people try to see ARR thru IR's lens for BGM. No body can match IR in BGM till now and ARR is good and that's all. And better than many.
