Let's talk about Shobhana. Although, away from the Tamil scene now, is she not way ahead of her Mumbai counterparts??

  Let's talk about "Mahanadhi" Shobhana instead. I feel she has a great voice too. I love the song "Sri Rangaranga naathanin". What about the song
  "Eera Nila" in Aravindan? The cassette cover says it is sung by SPB & Shobhana. Can someone confirm
  if this is the same as "Mahanadhi" Shobhana? How do you feel she compares to the others (Harini, Bhavatharini in particular). Also could someone list the songs Shobhana has sung so far?

  Why can't we talk about Mahaanadhi Shobana? Why don't you think that you inadvertant mistake may result in a healthy discussion amongst others? If you do not want to talk about M.shobana, please avoid this particular query.

  I liked the way you responded to the topic which is not so relevent to TFM. I too liked 'sriranga' very much. She is defenitely better than Harini and Bhavathaarini. She too has to mature a lot.
  
  It was the same Shobana who sang 'Ira nila'. I cannot recollect any of her other songs.

  It is really a surprise to me that the song
  Eera Nila was sung by Shobana. The voice is
  excellent far better than Bhavatharini.
  Harini has a tone different from others, she
  suits well in some songs.

  Shobana has recorded several devotional albums. My favourite is a rerecording of old P. Suseela hits, in digital system. The sound is crisp and the songs all finish (if you know what I mean!) The album consists of : Kanna karumeinira Kanna, Raaman ethanei Raamanadi, Gangai karai thotam, Senthoor Murugan, Pazhamuthir cholaiyiley, Saravana poigayiley, etc. etc.

  Anyway, my response to your query: I think
  this song is essentially based on Hamsadhwani.
  There are traces of Mohanam in some parts, because

  Bones is talking about Shobha Chandrasekar. She is not a new name in TFM. He brother S.N.Surendhar is also a singer. He is more known as the ghost voice of actor Mohan. Her husband S.A.Chandrasekar is a director. His latest and fiftieth movie is 'Once More' starring Sivaji. Enough of intro?
  
  Shoba has sung songs in almost all movies directed by her husband. Examples
  
  kaathal en paavam enRaal - naNpargaL
  thUri thUri - innisai mazhai
  thoddabedda rOttu mElE mutta parOttaa -vishnu
  
  The third song is a rare combo. Shoba sang it with her son Vijay, who is the 'iLamaik kaathalan' of Taml films now.
  
  She must have sung atleast 15 other songs!!

  I feel anyday Harini is a better singer than these two(Shobana & Bhavatharini). Harini's voice is magical, she is technically a better singer too. I agree 'sree ranga ranga..' is good but can you mention any one song sung by Shobana or Bhavatharini which of the class 'Nila kaaygirathu' or 'Manam virumbuthae' or 'telhone mani pol' ?
  I agree the other two are good singers but one cannot compare them with Harini.

  It is a big lie, in fact Saturn is on vacation to Mars with jupitar moons. I only granted him the vacation. He is gone using his LTA for 3 months.

  A couple of years ago, Shobhana (Mahanadi) released the Tamil version of Venkatesa Suprabhatam (made a household must by M. S. Subbulakshmi decades ago) which was a big hit. She continues to devote time to music and has shied away from acting assignments (even from the likes of Mani Ratnam). She is pursuing a degree in Music now. Wise decision I would say. Imagine such a talented girl running around trees singing 'Katti pudi Katti pudidaa' and 'Palakkattu Machanukku'!!!

  She is one of my favorite actresses. She never got good roles in Tamil (in fact she got the worst in Telugu) but Malayalam industry gave her excellent roles and she has done (and continues to do) some remarkable work there. A lissome, tall beauty, with classic Indian looks, she is the best dancer actress around.
