Music & flopped films

Can anybody name one film in the history of Cinema
which flopped only because of Music inspite of having good story, screenplay & direction ????? I think good films always run inspite of poor music.... But the vice-versa seems to happen... Great music & flopped films... Then what is the role of music in film industry ??? Where does it stand ???

  I think "Cheenu" would have run decently if the music had been handled by IR or ARR.

  Simple Query, indha simple vishayam ungaLukku theriyalayA? MUSIC IN GENERAL IS A SUPPORTIVE ELEMENT TO MOVIES AND NOT ALL BY ITSELF(exceptions are those films having music, musician's life etc as the main theme). Thus it cannot spoil the performance of an otherwise excellent movie. OTOH an average or good film's performance can be greatly enhanced by music while it can't do much to outright bore / stupid movies.
  
  Like the example Isaipriyan quoted, movies with music / dance as the central theme MUST have above average music. Otherwise, it could turn out to be the main factor for the failure. Just imagine sangarAbaraNam being remade into Thamizh with, say, siRpi as the MD:-)

  even sirpy would have done better by copying some actual carnatic krithis. but i cud not imagine shankara shastrigaL singing only sivaranjani with aa aahh aaah aaaah chorus in background under SAR's music. thank god! im saved :-)

  two great egs of great music but utter flops are kadhal oviyam and ninaivellam nithya-what songs and music,the movies were out of theatre in 2 weeks.all efforts wasted.

  To handle the music in a Music theme based film the MD should have the knowledge of that kind of music(Infact should be well versed) be it carnatic or WCM or folk.
  Even if you take "Karagattakaran", if you know the original feel of folk music you can feel the difference if DEVA or SAR would have handled the music of that film.The music of that film was a main factor for its success.

  "Athma" and "Aavaram Poo", to name a few, have great music, but still go into the category of flopped films.
  
  The songs of both these films are anytime greats and you can listen at any time and any number of times.
