TFM classical songs - for carnatic concerts

Carnatic music based film songs are a boon to the Tamil fans / Carnatic music itself. These can be used positively to propagate this form of music more.

I am sure there could be hundreds of such pure classical Tamil Film songs with decent lyrics (on subjects - Bakthi/Philosophy/Nature etc.) that can be sung in concerts... But again when something appears in cinema, a section of people will feel that 'punitham' illai... (EnnamO, sabhaakkalil nadakkum koothugal ellaam romba punitham maadhiri!)

Let us come out of these unnecessary mental blocks and list / discuss songs which
1. are based on classical / carnatic / Hindusthani music
2. lyrics should be decent - suitable for family listening (hint : as mentioned above, subjects could Bakthi / Philosophy / Samooga unarvu / Nature etc.)

Let me start the list with :
Janani Janani from 'Thaai MoogAmbigai' movie
Nirpathuvae Nadappathuvae from 'Bharathi'
Kamalam paadha kamalam from 'MOgamull'

  Imagine :
  'Ninnai Charanadainthaen' from Bharathi movie being sung in a carnatic concert (could be Bombay Jayashree / Unni / any other choice !) with a neat allappanai, sangathi, slow paced swarams etc. Wouldn't that be great ?

  Is it possible to group the lyrics of the songs that are chosen in this thread (as suitable for concert renditions) separately in our permanent 'Lyrics' thread ? That would be a great 'ready reference' for any 'MurpOkku ennam konda' Classical singers who want to introduce this trend in concerts...

  Hi subbu
  The idea is nice. As music lovers let us do our job (i.e. give the list of TFsongs that can be rendered in kutcheries).
  
  Meanwhile, There might arise some implementational issues regarding this. Mostly TFM songs are orchestrated (as explained by our TFM Page Pundits) whereas Kutcheries do not follow that method. If we still insist on using TFSongs then, either they'll sound awkward in kutcheries or kutcheries had to follow orchestration type and will become light music eventually losing its identity. This is a potential hinderance in implementing Most of our TF songs in kutcheries.
  
  Very few cine songs which follow kutchery pattern will suit for rendition in kutcheries e.g. "maanida sevai drohama kalaivaani neeyae sol(unnal mudiyum thambi)", "thodiyil padugindraen odi ni varuvai muruga(thodi raagam)".
  
  But, IMHO, even rendering such songs in kutchery will not give that much impact as they gave in the film. It is because many of these category songs are also situation oriented. If you sing them in kutchery one may feel 'something' is missing.
  
  Hence we have to search for those TF songs which are not only having good lyrics; not only based entirely on classical tune as observed by you but also should NOT be situation oriented.
  
  IMHO will have to search a lot for songs falling in such category. But, i think, some film songs of Papanaasam sivan are/were rendered in kutcheries. If what my grandma says is correct, one song called "maa ramanan uma ramanan" is sung in kutchery is taken from TFM.
  
  Finally, in a lighter vein, there are many advantages in singing other language songs in kutcheries. Since most dont know the language we hardly find the "vaarthai chidaral", "vaarthai kadithal", "artham mattral" etc of the song made in kutcheries due to the Bhagavadhar/Bhagavadhini(?) niraval, raaga chayai kanbithal methodologies.
  I can give you one example which my gradma told me. It seems, she read one vimarsanam of Kalki about bhagavathar singing a tamizh devotional song "Kaalai thooki aadum dheva yennai kaithooki vidava" or some thing like that. For singing that song, to show the niraval and other classical funda of that raaga/singing the bhagavathar sung as "yennai kaalai thooki...s r g...yennai kaali thooki...deva....(some more swara sancharaas)...yennai kaalai thooki" and ultimately killing the entire meaning of the song.

  Your observations are good. I too agree with you. But IMHO, in classical kutcheris, the interlude music / orchestration can be ignored. Otherwise it will become like another light music programme specialising in classical songs (like Rajini / Kamal special kutchery!)
  
  I should have added one more filter also... the picturisation of the song also has to be decent... I mean, normally people tend to remember the scene while listening to the song. There has been song sequences where with a classical background song, some violent scene will be going on !!

  Subbiah: ninnai charanadainthEn is fairly regularly sung in carnatic concerts. Recordings by Sowmya and other artistes are available. Generally, bhArathiyAr songs are more likely to have been sung.
  
  Frankly, I don't see any of the suggestions so far as appropriate excepting vedham nee iniya naadham nee. The procession song in devar magan - maasaru ponne varuga??, sri ranganatharin paatham from mahAnadhi, sollAyo vaai thirandhu (mogamuL) from 90s. There are lots from earlier times - manamE kanamum maravAdhe (sAvitri) for instance. Maa ramanan is from sEvAsadanam (1938? MS Subbulakshmi).

  I happened to see your interesting mails only now. I wish to remind U people that the film songs recommended for concerts shd. preferably be solos, not duets cos' it is easier to sing solos. A few of my suggestions are - "SollAyo VAi thiranthu" (Moga mul),Azhagan muruganidam, maname muruganin, Sowkkiyama kanne etc.

  malare mounama is not a kacheri material. It's a very light form.

  ulagin mudhalisai thamizhisaiye (though it has both carnatic and hindustani portions. a unique composition by MSV)
  Yezhu swarangalukkul
  Kannan mananilayai thangame thangam
  The magnum opus - Sivasankari sivanandha lahari
