  There is also a general talk in the magazines that
  the Marudhanayagam project itself is going to be
  scrapped!! It seems Kamal has decided to remove
  his beard and get back to acting in some masala

  ragapriyan: that qn is also answered by kamal. the scenes where he is required to have his koondhal are shot. he is looking for more funds. so it is going to be delayed. in the meanwhile, he is acting in a film produced by AM rathnam. so MN is not scrapped.

  I donot know why it took such a long time for Kamal to decide about IR... is it not IR been default MD for most of his films...what made kamal to wonder for such a long time..I donot personally see as a victory or something for IR, but he's been embrassed by Kamal by not announcing publicly even though the movie was on the floors quite some time.

  Kamal has changed his mind. In bangalore, when I met him he 's sitting with ARR discussing next shcedule of marudanayagam. So, MD is ARR and IR.

  Yeah,
  
  I had a chance meeting with Kamal in my office loo and he 'confided' that Deva is composing the BGM and Sirpi is doing a Western Classical number for the film. Apache Indian and Chinni Jayant are reciting Thevaram verses whereas Ila Arun is doing a steamy Carnatic Javali number. (incidentally, the last one forms the credits score).

  In my view, Kamal might not wanted to say it out that IR is my music director for other factor that non of are aware of. I mean lets face it, IR has give kamal his golden hits. Period, not Deva, ARR, or KR. I am sure that Kamal has decide a long time ago about IR and just wanted to keep it a secred.

  even I felt the same way when i read his interview in kungumam ,long back.
  
  He said that IR is THE best MD India has ever produced and he's always an admirer of IR, though ,of late he's making movies with Deva,mahesh and arr.

  I thoroughly enjoyed two numbers from the film, 'Poonguyil Paadinal' and 'Udayodu Pirakka Villai'... Amazing numbers, very very stylish!! This guy had what it takes. Whatever happened to him?

  I too feel the same. IMO, Kamal Hassan's life time project is going to be a great musical treat for TFM lovers, with IR as its MD.

  I heard long time back that Mahesh has some health problems and that is why he is not composing music for films. Maybe, and wish, it is a rumour. The music in 'Nammavar' was good, and "Poonguyil Paadinal' song was too good. BTB, I believe that Mahesh was MD for only 2 films right? "Nammavar" and "Kuruthippunal" (which had no songs but the re-recording was quite good).

  Guys: I think Mahesh took to professional music when he fell ill. But I think now he's ok.
  
  Also, there's a chap called Mahesh who has composed for a few big budget Telugu movies(Chiranjeevi starrers & Ramanaidu's films). I wonder if this is the same Mahesh. It would be great if they were the same.

  hi guys! did you happen to see the dinakaran webpage.the updated interview(dec 12 update)with kamalhassan about marudhanayagam.he has come clear with who the MD is for the film.it is going to be 'isaignani IR'(exact words of his answer)as the purpose of this whole interview of his seems to come clear abt lot of misconceptions about the film, i think he has categorically stated about the questions about the music director.GREAT NEWS! isn't it?

  Mahesh is fighting for his life, he suffers from Cancer, When I heard last he was very ill and I dont his current status.
  
  also Mahesh was a Executive in India Pistons or one of the big companies in Madras, Dropped his job for music, he has done many jingles etc.

  I heard that he *had* cancer and then recovered well enough to do music for movies. If he is ill, that's rather sad. I read somewhere that Suhasini and his wife together run the tamiltalkies.com website.... so maybe we should mail them and clear this up, should'nt we?

  You're right. Mahesh's wife and Suhasini are partners in their new venture in promoting Tamil films and getting a better distribution network overseas.
  As for Mahesh, if I remember correctly, he WAS sufering from cancer before he composed for Nammavar. Hope he has recovered now. Let's wish him a speedy recovery and hope he continues composing for more meaningful films. Numbers don't matter, do they?
  
  By the way, I visited the Dinakaran site and Kamal does say that the project is definitely on, and that he is mobilizing funds for the three fourth of the film that he is yet to shoot. He also says in the interview that the MD is indeed IR.
  
  That should put an end to all speculation, I guess (and probably end this thread :))
  
  ... unless some one suddenly questions the authenticity of Dinakaran's site!!!!

  i read that interview and was about to post my response in this thread but athuku munadi neenga mundhikiteenga.
  In the interview Ustaad has not claimed he is the MD for MN. He has said that MN is one of his current projects. This does *not* mean that he is the MD. He might be working with Kamal for some piece for that movie. May be he is working with IR for some effects from his tabla.

  This is perfectly in keeping with the cloud of uncertainty and confusion that has clouded the film from day one. I guess one can't say anything definitely until the movie is released, if ever!
  Though, I wonder what makes Zakir confident about composing for films after his "Saaz" debacle. Does Kamal need any further proof than that?
