Actors who wrote, composed and sang

In the initial days of TFM or any Indian FM, the actors and actresses used to write, compose and sing their own songs. I wanted to know the contribution of these great people to TFM as we know it. First of all a good list of these singers and the names of songs (if possible lyrics) and movies they made would be a good starting point. Hopefully some seasoned DFers will put in their valuable inputs. If this topic is already discussed please give me the appropriate link.

  Raj,
  Can you name some good movies of Papanasam Sivan which were famous? I think Papansam was versatile in Carnatic music.
  What about Dr.Sirkzhali Govidrajan ? Did he belong to this category too? Did TFM have some like Nagayya, Bhanumathi, Govindarajula Subbarao, who were allrounders?

  Jag: As a little boy, I remember seeing a movie called Kubera Kuchela or Bhaktha Kuchela in a touring talkies. Much later, I learnt it was Papanasam Sivan who played Kuchela. Sangeetham.com probably has something on him. Sirkazhi, Bhanumathi and Nagayya acted and sang. I don't think they composed. If I can recall anymore I will post.

  Don't know whether he wrote lyrics.

  Jag: M.M.Dandapani Desikar acted and sang. He was also a composer. I am not sure whether he sang any of his compositions in movies. I have seen only Nandanar for which the songs were composed by Papanasam Sivan.

  Can you name some movies or songs by KBS? It'll be interesting to see if she has written any songs.
  
  (BTW, You do mean K. Balasaraswathy right? I think she has sung in many telugu movies too.)

  kamal wrote lyrics in heyram or aalavandhan, i dont remember pls confirm.
  IR acted in the first scene of karagattakaran.
  VM acted in one movie where he appears on stage and speaks abt love.
  Sivaji sang in rajaraja cholan and devar magan.

  Jag: I think he means K.B.Sundarambal. She acted and sang in Avvaiyar. I don't think she wrote any songs.

  Jag, I ment KB Sundarambal. She also sang and acted in Thiruvilayadal and Kandhan Karunai. I think she's written some non-film devotional songs, but AFAIK she hasn't sung any of them for film.
