Sun Tvyil Ilayaraajavin interview paarthen. About the music, in His own words, " Indhiya thirai isai ulaga varalaatrile migapperiya thuvakkam, idhai pola yaarum panniyadhum illai, pannapovadhum illai" enru solli irukkkirar. Eppadi irukka poginradhu endru ninaithaale manadhil nadukkam pirakkindradhu...
The BGM, as we all know, has been played by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra. IR talked proudly about how much He enjoyed working with them, and how the conductor appreciated His work. He talked about how this was the first time a symphony orchestra has played for a film in Indian history, and how superior he felt the quality of sound and feel would be.
Later, He became sentimental about how people in India do not respect the artists we have. He felt really sad that while every small town in Europe had a symphony orchestra, there was nothing here.. One could detect even a touch of anger, when He said - " Bombayil Tata Opera Hall katti irukkanga. Yaaru vasikkappora? Adhukkum velinaattu aalungala dhan kooppiduveenga... Yenna maadhiri aalunga ellam edhukku irukkirom? naan oru film music director, yennaala symphony orchestrakkaga ellam ezhudha mudiyadhu paarunga..."
I am dying to see and listen to the movie ....

Great going guys....Keep it up!
Syncopated tunes, I think, is when a instrument is played for a trifle of seconds. IR uses syncopated tunes in abundance....next time check out any of the interludes...a flute or a violin will be played for couple of seconds adding to the melody of the tune. I will try to give a good example. Please correct me, if wrong...feels like blind leading the blind :-)
Srikanth, Sridhar and all knowledgable people, could anyone list the watersheds or milestones in the history of Carnatic music. What I mean is, just as Sridhar pointed out the different phases of change in WMC, Iam sure Carnatic music too would have evolved over time, even if it is a small baby step towards something new. Like, what exactly did Swathi Thirunal etc. do to CM? This will give us an idea of what has happend, why it happend, should it happen and other clarifications.
And the Jnana Saraswati flows again....

Srikanth,
This is in relation to your statement below.
'...Except for people like lalgudi, balamuralikrishna, prof ramanathan (and few) there had not been many composers big time,'
Please correct me if I am wrong. Also I am a novice in carnatic music. Did Balamurali krishna create any new keerthanas like Thiyagaraja bhagawadhar? In my thinking Balamurali sings Thiyagarajar's keerthanas in his own style like any other bhagawadhar.

The new ragas credited to his name
Mahati, Sumukham, Trisakthi, Omkari, Rohini, Pratimadhyamavathi, Janasammodini, Manorama, Vallabhi, Lavangi etc. have raised storm in the placid carnatic music circles.

Debater,
Syncopation means, occurance of accent in the weak beats (2nd beat and 4th beat). Ragtime, Jazz music are typical examples. Afro Americans are crazy on syncopated tunes. If you ask them to clap for any song, they clap during the 2nd or 4th beat!!. This style became very famous during the end of 19th centuary. I'm just curious to know whether any carnatic composition
is in Jazz style? somebody must have done it... I could'nt recollect.. any idea?
