  imho, mani and shankar get the right nerve of present days tamil film fans. they r careful in prefering top class heroines to the local heroines. it is a greater part in their movies' success, good marketing strategy. more technical oriented stuff in their movies give a greater helping hands in their film even if the story(if any) is pathetic. im not saying all their film lack any story, they make-up their movies with such para-directorial elements like class heroines, good camera and music(this is in case of mani); and class heroines rich technical shots(like graphics) in case of shankar.

  One thing that should be noted here is that in all these cases Shankar used the heroines whose talent was already brought out by ManiRatnam.He didn't try out new heroines barring Nagma.
  
  These heroines were already quite popular in Tamil as a result of having acted in Mani's films.
  These heroines had a better chance to perform in Mani's movies.Shankar should get the award for under-utilizing Manisha.

  I was just kidding about Preity Zinta being Shankar's heroine for the next film.-)
  Till now,he has gone for a fresh face(Nagma) or faces Mani had already used.
  Imagine the publicity of Kamal and PZ kissing would bring to "Robot".
