How do you think Illaiyaraaja would work on a Hollywood assignment if he gets or takes up one? Would you think Raja will do great in a thriller movie, sci-fi, a Bond type or a titanic type or a Sound of Music type?!!

Dear Pal
Instead of thinking of scoring music for Hollywood films which are of late relying more on background sound effects, Raaja could better focus on immediate opportunites of working with leading Indian directors.
like
KAMALHASSAN for marudanayagam
Manirathnam next tamil film etc
Remember, musical element needs to be strong to provide scope for a musician of Isaignani's calibre.
Technology oriented films do not need him. wait for his next album that I can authentically say is under production. It is not the symphony. But another project.
Upcoming films like Cheran's Desiya Geetham and
Prabhu's Manam Virumbude unnai will prove clearly that Isaignani's sabbatical from the top of TFM is over

Technology oriented films - what does this mean
(Raja has dig out movies like Haridas, Thirunelakandar which did not rely on tech.)
We accet technology for everthing, even "palkaran" has an electronic organizer, a day is not passed without going near the computer, why Musicians using electronics are not respected.
It is not easy to create a natural looking sound from a synth,if you think it is easy I am sorry for you .

Shrikanth : I know that getting natural sounds from a synth is difficult, but that does'nt require musical creativity.

Kitty:
It is a form a creativity,
Technology cannot be considered as a killer to creativity. If you do not know use the tech properly you mess up things. That is the fact here. Hollywood runs 100% on technology, no creativity is lost here.
Technology is a tool - using it or not is in the hands of the Music director. He cannot be blamed as a poor creator if he uses technology.
During Raja's period Composer was only a Composer who wrote tons of scores but now a composer should know how to handle technology properly.

IR can go hollywood without being techie! Even today, hollywood film scores are experimental, and fully dependent on orchestral scores. Did you see Rush Hour, it has got an excellent score for the titles. More like IR can easily do in his sleep.
Any hollywood producers out there? Can't someone have an association with IR? I mean what is this?
If I have a million dollars savings, I am going to do something on these lines. Make friends with James Cameron/Spielberg, host a party for him and even agree to pay a price for having IR given a chance to score for their movies.
Who is there powerful in India to help achieve this at this time? Amitabh can do it, but he is trying to help ABC survive? Who else? Kamal? Yes he can do it with a Marudanayagam perhaps.

The latest score for "TITANIC" proves tech and music are two different things.
James Horner didnt rel;y much on technology or musical effects but the score did the magic like Ilayaraaja does in his movies. And that dear fellas proves the point once again that....score is more important than technology and the stuff.

IR has all the talents to prove in Hollywood. But I believe IR could give an impact, if he gets a movie of Titanic type. Other types I doubt. He could only be just another music director.

no doubt he will shine like north star..

the crux of hollywood is only the BGM and that is more felt when the film is like that. eg TITANIC.
the film was really high tech but still the BGM was felt throughout. i can think of 'kaalapani' a mohanlal starrer(i believe it his his own production). the BGM was really extraordinary where for the first time one could get the feel of REAL digital surround effect. given the speed of his composition, hardly 3-5 days for the entire film, i think IR will be the best choice for hollywood producers if once he gets a chance to prove his genious.

hai.,
i agree with desikan.,
IR has extraordinary skills in BGM & IMO he is the only MD in india doing a decent work in BGM field.,however if we really wish to have IR in Hollywood., we may try to bring an international audio album with IR's greatest BGM Works.,
BTW do u have any idea about the BGM of the english movie 'fire' MDed by ARR?

I think Manoj Night Shyamalan, Director of Sixth Sense is the best bet for Illaiyaraja to compose music for a Hollywood film. Shyamalan is going to direct another Bruce Willis thriller in April of 2000. The name is 'Unbreakable'. Would that not be a promising new beginning for our Maestro Illaiyaraaja?

I know few cello and harp players who are studying with me.. and i know i their dreams..getting a chance to play in Royal Philharmonic Orchestra..really a dream..they need put their twenty years learnings...
But IR made a composition in RPC( the first asian)..
I dont want to hear abt dreams of others ..that too from an anonymous piece of shit...

Mr.Saravanan Kuppusamy neega solrathu rumba correct,
but just one question, where is the so called first every asians RPC composition.
Hope you remember our super star's venture to hollywood.......just acting! in one english movie! does not give a hollywood status.
The so called or claimed RPC composition is spokey from the day one, both achivements look somewhat similar to me.
Only way to stop this is raja should release his RPO composition, till then ME's and other unknown elements will be bombarding raja, by the way, they have the all the right to do so.

I remember for "BloodStone" Illaiyaraaja scored the music and he got Super Star a chance to act in that movie. To repay the debt Rajini acted in Rajathi Raja for Pavalar Creations Illaiyaraajas home banner.
Illaiyaraaja also scored music for a British film "The Wind" it was around 1985.
So Illaiyaraaja already been to Hollywood and he doesn't need to prove his mettle to any one who copies music from old tamil songs and Pop music.

It was true that Rajini was recommended by Raja for Bloodstone in 87 or so and so you need not have to express surprise about that. Please don't underestimate Raja's talents just because of the present tfm scenario.
