Go the idea to start this thread after the thread on "Mistakes seen or heard in TFM " - let us list out songs which themselves are distortions , a disgrace to TFM - list them out without any personal attacks on any MD - let us not make it a regular IR vs ARR thread again - whatever song is being mentioned needs to be properly corroborated with justifications as to why it is a song not worthy enough to be in the TFM - this thread can be used by all TFM lovers /listeners to give vent to their angst against songs which have irritated / annoyed / kaduppadichufied /frustrated them while listening to them - parameters that I can suggest are as follows - 1. Choice of singer for a particular song/ mood / artiste , 2. Choice of instruments used , 3. Distortions in the tune while it proceeds ,4. the incompleteness of the song in terms of sketchy interludes / preludes,5.baneful rendering of the song itself, 6. unnecessary use of instruments which do not fit in with the course of the song and do not gel with the kind of mood the song is meant to invoke , 7. the bad,poor use or misuse of lyrics etc. My request again - do not indulge in personal attacks and try make this thread an interesting one by giving the best that each one can interms of analysing as to why a particular song is abysmal in quality ..

  Having started the thread, let me start with my contribution - the followig is a reproduction of my contribution in the other thread on"Mistakes seen or heard in TFM" , which I feel is apt for this thread as well...
  
  
  1.There is this song in a MGR movie -
  
  "Kannai nambaadhey unnai yemaatrum" sung by TMS - horrible trumpet accompaniment - sambandhamey illamal andha vaadhiyam comes along - as such, the song itself is apaswaram - adil, indha trumpet vera - thaanga mudiyaadhu.
  
  Similarly, "yen yendra kelvi" by TMS for MGR (MD - MSV ?) is simply outrageous in the development of the tune - it gives one an impression as if the song was deliberately allowed to be a degenerate tune by the MD to allow the lyrics (glorifying MGR) to be on the forefront. IMO, the creativity of MSV had to take a backseat in many of MGR Eulogising songs.
  
  2. "Kavali padadhey sagodhara" by Deva - there is nothing in this song (?) that is in place - the song itself is out of place in the first place - the tune, the intolerable voice and the lyrics. Deva has many such creations to his credit.
  
  3."Meenamma" from AASAI by Deva the great - abathhama oru beat .
  
  4."Konja naal poru thalaivaa" - in AASAI - in the interludes, there is this chorus of voices crying out something absurd - yaaro adikka varra maadhiri - spoils an otherwise rare good song of Deva.
  
  
  5.During the 80s, in many songs of IR, one can notice "illusory gaps" in the compositions - which do give a slight jarring effect - but IMO, these were part and parcel of the evolution of his music.
  
  For instance, the second interlude of "alli thandha boomi" from NANDU - as it begins, one can hear for a few seconds ,a virtual jamboree of various sounds before the violins join hands with rest and celebrate a virtual festival of music !! - for a casual listener, this might sound a bit "off", but listen keenly, one can understand, realize the brilliance of Raja's mixing /usage of different instruments to heighten the mood dicated by the situation.
  
  But there have been some abominable numbers by Raja -
  
  "kattai vandi, katta vandi" from Sakalakalavallavan.
  
  "maama, nee namma kitta dupe vidalaama" from Thoongaadhey thambi thoongadhey.
  
  "mama un ponnai kudu" - a compromise of a song for the sake of Rajni.
  
  There is another song sung by Raja himself - I don't know the name of the movie - it goes like "Agaya thaamarai arugil vandhadhen" - Raja's voice is totally abysmal in this song - definitely could have been better, if Mano or Jayachandran had rendered the song.
  
  In many songs of Raja, the female chorus does not gel with the song in terms of pitch and melody - for instance, the song "Kootathhiley koyil pura " from Idhaya Koil - in the second interlude, the female chrous sing jadhis "thathhi thakadhaam" and so on, and the chorus due to perhaps the wrong choice of the singers greatly dilutes the beauty of the song.
  
  6.ARR's "oruvan oruvan mudhalaali" - in the second interlude, there is this chorus "kulaali"or"ulaali" - Ayyo !! idhukku Rajnikanth karnakadoorama expressionoda dance(?) vera -
  In "JEANS", Anbey anbey kolladhey , the beginning promises something, but further down into the interlude and the stanzas, it is like "sugar cane molass, without a trace of anything sweet in it "
  
  ARR's running out of ideas are very much visible in such songs.
  
  
  7. There is this song , "Atthaadi yenna udambu, udambellam pacchai narambu " ( who is the genius to write this "udambu " " narambu" rhyming lyrics ) MDed by Soundaryan , I think - another song which itself is out of place in TFM!!
  
  8. The "pappaa paabappaavap" nonsense that comes in the second interlude of IR's "Raja Rajadhi Rajan" from Agni Nakshatram is awful.
  
  9. In GURU (Malayalam), in the song "Deva Sangeetham" by KJY and Chitra (?), in the second stanza, when KJY sings "Orey raagam orey thaalam,priya deva" the voice goes off pitch at the point of rendering "raagam, orey thaalam" - maybe KJY is just allowing his age to take over his voice -
  
  10.KJY's rendering of "Thirukoyilae odivaa" sounding as "THERU KOYILAE ODIVAA" in the song "Ninaivaaley silai sedihu ".
  
  11.Mano's rendering of "O,Paapa laali" as "O BABAA LAALI " in Idhayathai Thirudaadhey - he sings "O megamey oramaai nee odhungidu,iraichalo idigalo vendumo - O kuiyliye paadivaa yen paadalai nallisai idhayathhin naadhamo" - Mano's voice in that song is such that the Megams would have Odhungufied with fear, even without him requesting them to do so and the KUYILI (whatever that means ) would have never heeded his request ! and the even more intolerable rendering of "vidiya vidiya nadam " - in the same movie by Mano - this song is supposed to be sung with gusto and youthful exuberance which is what SPB has done in the Telugu version, but Mano Sir, renders the songs as if he is singing a REQUIEM for the Hero - especially, the song ends on a fast tempo, with SPB giving it a punch towards the end in the Telugu version , but Mano, sobs in the end in the Tamil version - I don't know whether IR was sleeping while the recording was being done.

  Manos rendering of ALL songs in IT. They sucked esp. if you had the fortune of listening to SPB's Gitanjali. There's this line
  "Adi neeye baliyaga varugindra penmaiye", where our man just blandly recites it. Theres no feeling for the penmai that is being bali-fied. Inzamamidam matti kondu kadamiyenu bowling pannum Indian bowling maadhiri kadamaiyenu oru rendering. The worst contribution of Raja to TFM , IMHO!

  Ofcourse, I wasnt finding fault with Ravi. It was just an attempt to , as usual, twist the import of his statement. What with the ARR Fans and Thamizhans not frequenting, one has to try one's luck on higher beings , however blasphemous that might seem. One of these days you must give me a chance ..:-))))
