This Vietnam Colony song is a slogam on Sarswathi. A catchy and melodious number. It is the exact same piece or based on the same raga, ARR used in the starting piece of "pachai kiligal" in Indian.

By direct introduction, I hope you mean in tamil. Some of those singers were popular in other languages before emerging into the tamil scene. For instance, Sujatha was extremely popular in Kerala even before IR gave her those songs. She did stage programs in Kerala with KJ from the time she was ten.

Sujatha existed in tamil film even before Roja Came. Some of the songs, which many of you may have not heard at all, like songs from naangaL pudhiyarkaL, paataaLi magan, etc.

Sujatha sang in Gayathri (kAlai paniyil) which was probably early 80s. Was Sujatha "extremely popular in Kerala" before that ?

M and pg,
Sujata was a part of Yesudas' troup, touring Kerala and the Gulf, as a young teenager.
It's IR who gave her a break in Tamil, in a B&W film, Gayatri (1977). She was a teenager then.
BTW, the above film only had female singers (Susheela, Janaki Sasirekha and Sujata).
M,
Which song did Swarna make her debut with? I thought it was Kshatriyan's 'MAlayil yArO'. Sorry!
IR has used classical musicians like Balamurali Krishna, Seshagopalan, T. V. Gopalakrishnan, Ustaad Sultan Khan, S. Rajeswari, Yesudas, Venugopal, Ajoy Chakraborthy and the present day Classical musicians-turned-playback singers like Bombay Jayashri, Unni Krishnan and Sowmya.

true, but has she done any film song (TFM or MFM) before `kAlaippaniyil'?

Well, from what I have read in articles and interviews:
Sujatha her first song for IR when she was 13. The song was 'kaadhal Oviyam'. But even before that, at 10, she started touring with KJY and was referred to as 'Baby Sujatha' in those days. She was singing in stage programs with KJY even after she stopped getting offers in TN at that time. But I think she only sang for about 4 films in her initial entrance. She has done about 3000 stage programs with KJY, as she herself said in a few interviews. Actually, I think that if you look at seniority in initial popularity and fame, Sujatha had it before Chithra. Chithra was even asked in an interview how she used to feel when Baby Sujatha was so popular before and Chithra had answered that she had adoration. Chithra was also popular due to stage shows that she did with both KJY and Jeyachandran not to mention from film songs but only later, in the mid 80's. I think that Sujatha and KSC are about 2 years apart. But then, Sujatha came back to mallu film music in 1988 with Chithram, which was very popular. But somehow, I guess Chithra had luck smiling on her because as far as music personalities go, it seems to be her and KJY that Malayalee people identify with. I don't really know the cause of that? But we all know that it was Rahman who gave Sujatha the tamil break in 92 with Roja. I believe Sujatha's voice is Rahman's favourite of present day singers. I do know that both worked together for ad commercials. Likewise, although Unnimenon was introduced by IR, he got popular with ARR's songs. Anyhow, that's all I know.

Neels the rajhangam list has included a few to many singers who were not introduced by IR. Im wondering why the left out SJ and SPB:))
Few examples:
Dinesh* - LP(mangai oru gangai)
Deepika (Baby)* - vidyasagar
Harish Raghavender- vidyasagar(vaa saki vaa saki from arasiyal)
Jolly Abraham - MSV(angel angel)
Krishnaraj - Deva (did krishnaraj even sing for IR?)
Kovai Soundarrajan - MSV(anbuLLa athaan)
LalithaSaagari - Chandrabose(LS sang only one song for IR in 'en purushanthaan enakku mattum thaan')
Anjali L. R. - MSV
Malaysia Vasudevan - definitely not IR
Pushpavanam Kuppuswami - Ajay and the film is parvaigaL. His first song in TFM is 'en manam karai purandu sella'-a duet with sindhu which became very popular in singapore
Raj Kumar - is this rajkumar bharathi? Then he was introduced by VKumar
Rajesh - sandeep chowta
Rajseetharaman - Babu Ghantasala
Saibaba - MSV
Sasirekha - MSV
Swarnalatha - MSV in needhikku thandanai
Uma Ramanan - TRPappa in kaadhal kaadhal kaadhal

Neels,
SL sang 'Chinnanj siru kiLiyE kaNNamma...' along with KJY.

just to add:
Ibrammanandam - metti
srinivasan - kozhi koovudhu?
unni menon (vijai) - oru daithiyin dairy
ramesh - pagal nilavu
ragavendar - vaidehi kathirundal
It's true, IR has not introduced many singers
line AR did. I am IR has a lot of reasons why he
repeatedly used janaki, sbp and kjy. IR used to score at a speed of 1 song a day. He was at his own speed and creativity. How could he have achieved that with new singers? Besides can any one disagree if I say
that SBP and KJY's best career songs are from
IR? I would say s.janaki, spb, kjy, m.vasudevan
brought out their talent only by singing for IR.

Naga,
"Besides can any one disagree if I say

That's true. But look at SPB's productivity rate(No.of hits/total no of songs sung * 100)under ARR and IR.I think ARR gave SPB the songs befitting his talent and variety and he didn't bother SPB for songs that need someone less than SPB's stature.

I agree SPB attained the stature, after singing so many songs for IR.

But SPB reached that Stature (or atleast everybody came to know of SPB's stature) only after he sang all the MSV and IR's Songs.

GR & Venki,
Did SPB attain that stature exactly at the time of Roja release?
He didn't have it even one year before that.-)
Was he utilised by IR as ARR after ARR's entry?B'cos if I remember correctly two of the hits of IR after ARR's entry -Bharathi and Kaadhalukku mariyadhaai didn't have any SPB songs(if I'm right). This was the period when some of the memorable hits of IR came from Arunmozhi and Hariharan.

I don't understand your point. Can you eloborate?.
anyway on second thoughts - dont answer the above question.
I agree ARR is the one and only MD who understands a singers talent and uses them correctly. All other MD's before them didn't have a clue.

GR,
"I agree ARR is the one and only MD who understands a singers talent and uses them correctly".
That's not my statement. But I can rephrase it as:
ARR is the one and only MD who understands(almost) SPB's talent and uses them correctly.
Another correction:
As far as MSV is concerned I don't think I know most of the songs SPB sang under him.As far as the range of songs I know I think he also utilised SPB's potential very well. So,I'm not saying he didn't get the right opportunities from MSV.

IR did Introduce many. But may be he didnt do much talent scouting.and just used to pick people who came for chance or already established singers.
Also remember today the is somehting called pop,
also we have young singers in carnatic unlike 80s, 70s. So singers get exposure outside film world. So ARR calls them, instead they coming to him.
So you cant blame IR for not finding propotionaly as ARR did.

kk,
The main reason for IR not using new singers is because he needs really good singers. The singing is very difficult in many songs (okay..flame flame :)) and all these are done in one go. (I think track singing came later). ARR is okay even with recording piece by piece, I guess. Also, in ARR's song the voice is part of the 'novelty in every song' strategy.

Please read 'the main reason for IR not using new singers' as 'the main reason for IR not using new singers as often as ARR'.

Raja is only a tamil music director and not a tamil spirited person. This is true with the songs which he has given and ?contributed to tamil and ?tamil music.
He is a commercial tamil film musician with biassed ideas and misconceptions about tamil voices. As he himself has clearly stated the truth in Kumudham, he has wasted his time with the tamil film music and the poor tamil film music listeners are still wasting their time with it.
He had good assistants to back him up and his time was good, that is all. He made his money and exploited (exploits) through medias, including computer magazines, but still truth will win always!
It is time for him to produce a Challenge movie composing real music in a film on his own banner, instead of junk stuff of pavalar creations.

A recent trend I have been noticing in this forum is, people come and post some jack a$$ posting just to crave attention. These postings have no logic and basis. It only sparks a series of unwated postings. Grow up guys....
