HMV - Sa Re Ga Ma has released computerised remixes of Hits of Dr.Sirkazhi Govindarajan sung by his only son Dr.SivaChidambaram and Hits of Loganathan sung by Deepan Chakravarthy. The popular tiltles are named as "NILAVODU VANMUGIL" & "ULAVUM THENDRAL" respectively. They have won the best seller awards in TN market.
This dedication of the singer sons to their singer parents is unique that the voice almost sounds alike. The orchestration sounds good and the quality is totally digital and excellent. It is for sure to attract the next generation to listen to the golden old favourites in their new version.

I know Ulavum thendral by Deepan chakravoarthy which also contained other songs apart from his fathers songs was well promoted initially with a special award presented and so on and suddenly it was left unnoticed.
Nilavodu vaanmugil by Sivachidambaram had his fathers solos and duets with other singers like P Suseela, Janaki, Jamunrani, Jikki, Leela, Komala, SudhaRagunathan, LR Eswari etc., but the sale was good without any publicity or promotion. It came two rounds in the market and there was a news that HMV is going to release CD combinations of both. What happened later is a mystery! HMV should answer. If any body is aware please do inform.
Both guys have sung very well and did their best. They deserve a good treatment. Will HMV sa re ga ma consider!

I have listened to Nilavodu vaan mugil, a computerissed compilation of sirkalis songs sung by his son Dr.sivachidambaram. It has difficult gems like Amuthum thenum also. Sounds great! Ulavum thendral by Deepan shows a variety with different songs with good orchestrataion.
Commedable work of singer sons (Trustworthy sons).

The ulavum thendral series came out close to 8-10 years ago! The first album ulavum thendral did come out as a cd too. There were 5 cassettes in total followed by ulavum geetham, generations, andrum indrum endrum (2 cassettes P Suseela, TMS sings their old songs with computerised orchestration)and uLLam koLLai pOguthE (Jikki sings her old songs with computerised orchestration).

check www.shrimatis.com is you're in the US. The TMS, PS & Jikki albums are also available on CD. I've not heard nilavodu vaanmugil - may be this was released after all the others?

what is 'computer orchestrated' ? Sequenced music ? Hmm..what a pity ..live recordings of natural instruments is always considered the best/high end but we in TN/India think keyboards/sequencers are the best..Even digital recordings are not necessarily high end...Maybe 24bit/96KHz..but there are still fans of LPs (yes those records) !!!..
I am pretty sure siirgAzhi type songs are better rendered with natural instruments.

Kiru - I think HMV is trying its best to give the remixes in the latest digital format through these remixes. It is a fact that the original songs still stands the test of time. I have listened to Nilavodu Vanmugil audio cassete. It sounded great. Why the HMV underpromotes its own subject is a surprise! It has all the good singers incorporated in it.

I have heard Nilavodu vaanmugil cassette
10 years back. If I remember right, the songs
were sequenced by a musician named Selvakumar
on a Korg 01W and are decent.
However, I bought another casette of sequenced
songs with lead melody played by real instruments,
the album was called "Kamal hits by computer".
That is an outstanding album!

There seem to be several levels here -
1. recording the music with actual instruments and the original voices e.g. spb, vani, ps who're around still.
2. computerized music w/ original voices
3. computerized music w/ different voices
4. music w/ real instruments overlaid on the original voice/soundtrack
1 is what we'd all prefer and 3 is what we're getting w/ some 2( TMS, PS, Jikki). There's only 1 tamil album that falls in 4 - Classics Revival titled aayiram nilave vaa MGR hit duets (not to be confused w/ the album titled aayiram nilave vaa containing KVM hits). There are 50-60 albums of this type in hindi under the 'revival' series title.
