in a serious movie, there should be some comedy scenes in-between. they can be of high quality, of copied quality or worst. but there has to be one.
purinjudho what am trying to say? ;)

and Vj
there are two types of serious movies and the fight is(rather had been, has been) going on which serious movie is the better serious movie...
i guess u know what i mean ;-)
btw this dandanakka deva is faaaaar better than my beloved lalalalal SAR :-). We all forget to see one thing (IMHO), we see copies from deva but when lalalaa is forced to do some non-lalalla(once in a deep blue moon) that invariably turns out to be a copy either from Hindi tunes (LP specials) or from other sources....whereas we can credit some good dandanakkas as "a kind of" originals to deva.

I am a Deva hater!! But once in my life i was proud of him. I was going with my friend in car.
We were playing the song "Mala Mala". At the signal there was a car on the next lane. There was this little american girl who must be around 5 years old sprang from seat and started dancing for this "mala mala" song. Her mother couldn't control her. Everybody was laughing and clapping for this tune. I was totally shocked!! I was also proud of Mr.Deva!! just for few seconds!!

Vj, trouble is there are some comedies which are better than the main stories in the movies.
Know what I mean?

For a listener like me whose scope is only TFM and MFM,I salute Deva and others in his clone to have made me listen to some of the nice tunes produced in other states or other countries or other planets..:-)
But laymen shud be informed that which MD is peru poonavar for copying..otherwise he will think that Deva is the BEST MD in the world..:-))

Sri,
i am not a gnanasuniyam.nor do i indulge in pseudo philosophy.
I am repeating for the nth time
a music director who is capable of
nallam nalam ariya aaval & vellarikka
who made people shed inhibitions with
yappa yappa ayyappa
thirupathi yezhumalai ( if you have listened carefully the lyrics are in no way offensive)
who gave
konja naal poru thalaiva
azhagu nee nadanthaal
mugavari songs
deserves more respect than what he is getting here.
I am against hypocrisy whereby Isai gnani's breaking wind is considered symphony & Deva's good numbers going unrecognized.
Oru copy addicha enna pala copy adicha enna didn't IR copy Darling darling (Priya from abba) & Kanavu kaanum vaazhkai ( Neengal kettavai from Uphaar)- but you talk about the originals of IR do the same for Deva. I'll keep coming to Deva's rescue till you stop this crap.

I think Deva is very talented. He gives us somgs that ARR and IR could never give us. He started the whole craze of "Gaana Paattu" with his dance-able country-style songs. Ok, maybe some of his songs could have been directed better, but overall, he's great at being different, despite what others have to say about him copying other MDs.

i am fron new york man...firstly i heard the avi shanmughi song from my school...bec when i was a freshmen in high school...the first day they showed us every part of the school...and they introduced their sports teams and bands..and band played couple of songs from avi shanmugi..ya i agree tht deva did couple of original ones..but 75% copy..and he does score for more movies than others..but look i heard he gets lower than 5 lakhs per movie ...look thats the problem when tamil dosen't recoganize good talends..example vidyasagar ..he made a lot of good songs in tamil 1993-1998 period..these movies ever released ..some of them released and big flops...

hai Mr.vengayam,
u have listed some good songs.ok.
but they r the songs that popularised due 2 good lyrics.some songs in ur list is also coppied from others album.u have 2 pick the coppied songs oo IR but think, u have 2 pick the own tunes of deva among the coppied once.last 2years back vaali is planned 2 send 2 oscar.by God's grace it is not selected by the panalists 2 go there.just think of, if the film had gone there, india's maanam kappaleriirukkum b'cos max no.of songs inthat movie are coppied from western songs.iam not a
deva hater.he gave some good songs in the earlier period.he must change his attitude of coppying and continuously giving some dandanakka songs.
sorry, i didn't meant 2 hurt u .if anyway i have hurted u i feel very much sorry for that.

Sri thanks for the response. Deva is no relation of mine. But I find it hardly amusing that people write & talk as if only Deva copies & others are prisine pure. Also I do think that deva has far more talent than most of us would like to admit. I did not want to insult IR , I just wanted to show others to have done it. Don' t tell me that Deva's gana pattukkal are also inspired from the west. another point is OK, Deva is heavily inspired but he does not indulge in cut & paste ( of Ullathai Allitha ) variety. Don't you feel the O sona number has been okay -recreated to suit tamil tastes. I think that is a wonderful number. The Deva version.

J,
First of all, I would like to say that I am not from India, nor have I ever been there in my life. I live in Canada, so we hear the same songs that people in the US hear also. I know many Canadians that feel the same way about Deva. He is a very talented MD and his styles of songs are great. Sure, he might have copied some things from other songs by other MDs, but I still love his music. I agree with Vengayam with his opinion about Deva's talent and how many of us don't admit about all of the talent he has. BTW, J, you have great English for an American.
