Hi,
I have alot of IR mp3 songs. Where can i upload them so that we can keep it for all the way. I know coolgoose.com has this facilities, but it is slow in dowloading and just worried that it will deleted after few months.
Next, how to compress a 5mb mp3 file into less than 1mb? Really needed.

Jeeva, most IR songs are already commonly available on the net. You can refer to the rare songs list in the "mp3 songs of IR not found anywhere on the net" thread and upload only those ones to coolgoose.

My MP3 songs are all around 5MB, way too big!
What program will make the 5 MB files down 1 MB without losing the quility of the song?

The file size of a 5 minute 128 kbps mp3 song is approximately 4.5 + MB. You can use mp3 editors to reduce the bit rate. You can check out download.com for free mp3 editors. But the quality will also go down.

download the CDex software from
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/downloads.php
It's a free software to convert audio files (wav or CD) to MP3. You can set a low BitRate to shrink the MP3 file size to below 1M. Remember lower bitrate will produce inferior audio quality. This software will even let you split the song into 2 files and you can copy them onto 2 disks.

Um... wav files are uncompressed audio files. mp3 is compressed format. Also, mp3 compression is lossy - which means, you will lose quality - no matter how high the bit-rate is.
Reducing the bitrate reduces the size of mp3 files, but at the same time loses quality.
You cannot reduce the size of an audio file without losing quality. But on most mp3 files, it's hard to distinguish a lossless file with a 192Kbps mp3 file. However, the lower you get, the more noticeable the quality loss is.
If you're not worried about size, the best way to store files is as uncompressed wav file.
